The highlight of going to visit my nan in Birmingham was always getting to spot a few diesels at New Street. The variety compared to Watford Junction was fantastic! Thanks for the trip down memory lane John!!

Some lovely 50 footage on there. Brought a tear to my eye. Great memories. Thanks for posting.

Some gems there, saw my first 50 at BNS, 50015. Was lucky enough to see them all in the end.

New street was always full of train spotters just like this video shows. Sometimes if you were lucky the driver let you in the cab and a c was put next to the trains number in your train spotting book. One occasion the driver decided to let us in the cab and he took us for a ride only in and out of the station to change platforms. Fab times for a young boy.

Nice footage at Liverpool Street with a class 37 powering away with a Cambridge working, guessing that it’s 1982-3 ….. never been a big 50 fan but still great memories of Birmingham and the masses of spotters and bashers… thanks 🙏👍😎

Wonderful Film. Many happy days came flooding back following the hoovers around the country in the late 70's and early 80's.
My 1st every main line second man's turn at the common, was to New St from Paddington with 50 009 & returning light loco to Coventry. To work back to London. Back in May of 1984.
THANK YOU for sharing your work.

great memories of New St as it was back then. So much of my misspent youth in that place as a spotter.

I've seen a few nice old trains, some class 57s and I've only ever seen 2 class 37s, 37401 on the sidings at York and 37611 in a siding at Southall while out trainspotting with my dad. I'd like to take him to see one driving. we're in the south of England and from what I've seen they most run in the north or Birmingham and would take some planning

They were great days! I travelled to Thurso, Penzance and many places in between. I just wish I'd been more organised... If I'm honest, it haunts me a little bit even now that I didn't make more effort to visit certain works and sheds, and to get more miles behind the Deltics in their final year. Even so, I'm happy for what I did experience. My Lords!
