      I held off on using them for years, b/c someone who used to work at one of these places said they send customer's sensitive info offshore, and the manual work is done there (India? The Philipines?). This is how they keep the price competitive. He also said these companies have been hacked. I think it's a good service, but definitely Risky.

      Thanks we were using reputation defenders in the USA for about four years and they were charging us for $49 a month and it went up to $59 a month and it was impossible to cancel that subscription. They kept on saying you have to speak to a person that’s assigned to you and nobody would get back in touch with us so we’re gonna try this service... 🙏🏽.. Nobody should be able to have access to your personal information that way I think America is nuts for allowing that

    Nice intro to the service. I have been working on this and went the do it yourself route. It takes more time, but I was wanting to learn some more in the process and didn't mind. I have noticed that my information appears to be gone from the sites that I opt out - but if I do a google search it still has results that point to the sites that I opted out. If I click into them, they are gone - so it appears it is more of a search engine indexing. I figure you may be in a similar situation with the paid route, any idea how long it takes to get de-goggled? Just for reference, I started about 11/11 so it has been about a month. Currently opted out of ~75 sites ;)

    I requested deletion on several sites but they refused and stated because it is in the public domain and not protected. Several went further to say that they would only consider it if I had and would submit documented evidence of stalking, harassment, etc. What is DeleteMe's success with this reality?

  • @AndyKazama2
    @AndyKazama2 2 роки тому +1

    It would also be nice if services like Facebook made deleting data easier. E.g. I had to go through all my profile pictures and cover photo folders individually to delete. Then I had to go through all my other folders untagging myself.

    • @AllThingsSecured
      @AllThingsSecured  2 роки тому +4

      Yea, I know what you mean. It's the price we're now paying for being so naive early on in our Facebook lives :) For what it's worth, I published a video about your data on Facebook (ua-cam.com/video/Lu5yAff7xPI/v-deo.html) but the end result is that it's easier to just remove it from public view than to actually delete it. Unless you're willing to delete your entire Facebook profile.

    Genuine question: are those broker companies being paid? Are they removing data only temporarily for the time DeleteMe is re-asking them to remove? Have you had any data resurface in one of those after using the service?

    • @AllThingsSecured

    What are your criteria to determine if a site or company is trustworthy?

    • @AllThingsSecured
      @AllThingsSecured  2 роки тому +9

      That's a really, really good question. And I don't think there's a definitive answer to that. A lot of people trust Apple. A lot of people adamantly don't. A lot of people trust trust Facebook. A lot of people adamantly don't.
      In the end, for me it's a combination of transparency, history and communication. In this case, I know who runs DeleteMe, they've been around for many years without issue, and they communicate via email and social media well. Until one of those breaks down, I'd rather put my trust there than in these data brokers.

    I just purchased it. You do not have to give social security number . It did request name dob , addresses , relatives names and there is an area where you can upload your drivers license but you can black out your pic , drivers license number . It took a week to get report and my info is on way more websites then what you showed unless I’m misunderstanding the report I read. I did not give out my Social security number or bank info etc and apparently my b date ajd address and relatives are all over the place. I think it’s crazy that brokers are even allowed to just splash peoples private info all over the internet. I never even thought my info was out like that until my co worker told me she was nosy and looked up everyone she worked with and easily found their age , address and marital status etc.

      Core Dream Studios; I suggest your friend put a security freeze on his Lexis Nexis/Sage Stream credit report and request a copy of your report, do it via certified mail, do not do it on the phone or online. Lexis Nexis/Sage Stream are collecting all public records from the courts to county records, and they supply this info to Transunion, Equifax and Experian. As for a felony I believe the law says they can only go back 7 years, so if its 10 years old you should have no problem removing it from lexis Nexis.

      There is no single law and it changes from state to state; however if you ask a company to remove your info and they do not they are always going to do it so they don't risk getting sued. They don't care, they have billions of records and hardly anyone requests to stop. Sometimes they will do updates and re-enter your info and you will have to request it taken down again, but if you request they have to take it down in most areas.

    Why would the data collection companies just delete your info just by asking?
    They have spent money acquiring it. in order to make even more selling it.
    If somebody didn't know asked you to take a $10 bill out of you wallet and set it on fire - would you?

      Because by the law, data brokers don't have the right to spread anyone's personal info. If they refuse, you can take them to court, and you'll win the case.

    Do not use it. You have to give your information to them so they can “take it down”…really??? They take it down one month, then it’s back up in 3. You stop your subscription, and everything goes back online.
    Heck, they might even be victimizing you (like, what a “better business model” to collect the info under the guise of trust and then extort you to take it down)

    • @AllThingsSecured
      @AllThingsSecured  2 роки тому +1

      If that's your threat model, I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise. But for everyone else out there, "giving your information" that is already freely available on the internet is hardly scary. What's scary to me is allowing that information to remain out in the open.

      @@AllThingsSecured Definitely, but Americans should wake up and get these privacy laws changed. I should have to opt in to my public facing internet record instead of some service scrapping it and doing it for me. Further, I should be in charge of its accuracy and the information it displays. Lastly, that listing should be regulated such that I can take it down just as easy. There should be a single source of truth that’s accurate. Not 1000 partially accurate fragments competing for a purchase of me!!! (isn’t it sick just saying it? - I never put myself up for sale. It is no better than Human Trafficking, and I believe - it’s all same people)
      Some might feel strange about this, but we really have done a crap job of updating our privacy laws to protect ourselves - EU has GDPR, and we have DeleteMe - a business!!! In fact, the only real privacy protection is for businesses, you know, those agreements we never read when using the software, but allows them to walk away guilt free and harm anyone they want. (And the victim becomes the one to blame)
      We can access information and each other too quickly for it to all be available to the world. (Whereas my mother’s “white pages” were out of date by the time it hit my doorstep, and it took 7 minutes to find just a name, blah, blah)
      Anyway, that’s my rant. I’ll quit bugging you, but I’d personally avoid this service and instead petition your congressman and/or senator. Also, if you have access, talk you your local law enforcement agencies to get an idea of how to handle such issues. Keep reporting to federal agencies, and then some!

      @@diomedtmc2124 The only way it's legal for companies to post our private info online, is because we are given the option to opt out. It's a loophole, the system is broken. This should be illegal, period. There's a young woman in Calif. who helped draft legislation to protect women's rights (after she was assaulted at her university) It passed through congress unanimously and is now law. If legislation were drafted to protect people's privacy, it should pass through congress easily, especially with ID theft a huge issue now.

    🤦🏾‍♂️ so you’re gonna give all your personal information to an online company to see if online companies have your personal information? Don’t you think it’s possibly they will suppress your footprint online until you are no longer subscribed? It’s very hard to not believe you are affiliated with this company. It’s like selling books on how to get rich, but the actual way to get rich is actually in selling the books 🤦🏾‍♂️.
