Always a pleasure to listen to your reviews good sir! You were always a channel I’d rush to after finishing each King book as I read through them all. Keep up the great work!
Great review as always. Completely agree with your view/thoughts on the political references throughout the book. Like you, they didn’t bother me too much. Just wish they served a purpose (think Insomnia for example) rather than feeling like it was King just sharing his views for the sake of sharing. Overall I was pleasantly surprised with this read, as I too am not much of a Holly fan.
I loved Holly. I thought it was a great book! Definitely need to read the Mr Mercedes trilogy and the outsider first. I’m liking the crime novels king has been writing
i just got into king and i've been using your videos to kinda see where to start with him. great suggestions so far!! i loved night shift and duma key soooo much
Holly is a good book to me I did like the character holly in this one and in the outsider's I do understand why some people didn't like the politics it didn't bother me
what is shocking to me is the fact that people are somehow upset or shocked when King put's his own politics in his writing. He wrote an amazing essay on Guns (which I would love to see your review on that) and his very much of the liberal side.
I think I’m a bit done with King generally writing these “how done it” style books. Feels like it’s easy for him and doesn’t come across as overly creative to lean on established characters. Having said that he is getting on so fair play for just publishing anything! Cannot wait for his new short story collection, but hopefully some more horror/drama/thriller King on the horizon.
Jesus this book frustrates me. What a great premise, superb villains and grisly crime but holy shit. I am absolutely done with the Holly and Jerome success story, its just so dull!!! And the clumsy politics/covid theme!! I agree with possibly all of Kings politics, but how its shoehorned into this book is so grating!!!! It may just be me, but i need the Holly experience to end!!!!
Good and interesting comments. Thanks. Like you, I'm not sure why King is so into Holly. In your experience of interacting with King fans, do you find that there are many who are similarly enthusiastic about this character, or do most of them (like me) just sort of go along with him because it's King and they'll read what he writes?
From my experience it’s very much the latter - I can’t think of any King fan I know who loves Holly, but will take a Holly book over nothing new from King!
As a holly fan, I really disliked this book. The villains felt like lower-stakes compared to the villains in the first two stories. Yes I know it's like supposed to show people are the true evil but It just didn't work for a holly book for me.

Thanks so much!
I was waiting for this since the spoiler free review. Glad that you've finally made this !
You’re welcome!

I have plenty of time for Mr Mercedes and The Outsider for sure
Really enjoyed this. Fan of holly. Love her quirks. Good story too. 4 stars. Hope she has more books to come. Good video.
Nice, thanks!

Niiice! Happy to help 😊
I think I agree with everything you just said...

You need a priest to bless your house, that ghost will come back. 👻 👻 👻
Ha! It’s cool, me and the ghost are chill. If someone could come and exorcise my idiot dog though, I’d definitely be interested! 😂

Same!
You are the best 💪🏻
That’s very kind, thank you!
Three years too late and she wasn’t the hero of the book. Let’s hope the next King book is a winner.
I have a good feeling about You Like It Darker!
what is shocking to me is the fact that people are somehow upset or shocked when King put's his own politics in his writing. He wrote an amazing essay on Guns (which I would love to see your review on that) and his very much of the liberal side.
Oh yeah, and he’s been doing it for years before the Holly stories!
And a review of Guns is a great shout, thanks
You know how you summarized the novels taking place in Derry, Maine? Can you do that with Holly?
I absolutely can do that!
The excerpt you read totally sounds like Cannibal Corpse lyrics, ha-ha.
😂

I’m so ready for You Like It Darker!

Yes! Get rid of her and move on!
I feel like Hollys politics are fine. However, it does make the book a time focused piece. It’s great, but won’t age too well
I can’t tell if that will be the case or if it will end up being a great time capsule of this era 🤷🏻♂️
The covid and political stuff really kept me away from this book. I'm not sure when/if I'll read it.
I get that, they are full on

Interesting. Do you think you’d have liked it more if it was the same story but wasn’t a Holly? I know I would have done
@@DaveReadsKing I completely agree with that, I think it would have worked a lot better!
You need 19 reasons to stop reading King for 1 year and start reading Koontz, Little, Herbert, Lumley, Saul. P R O N T O!!!!👉
Hmm, I won’t be stopping King for that long any time soon - not when there’s always a new book coming out!
