Please for the love of Christ god almighty make a guide specifically on how to make those quays because I’ve been trying to do what you did for 4 hours and it just says “in water” or gives me something at the wrong elevation.
I haven’t heard the word “White Flight” in years. Having grown up just south of Gary Indiana it is such a perfect phrase.
Can you blame the middle and upper class though? Why live in a crime ridden shithole with no opportunity if you can afford to leave?
It looks like you were one of the few early release creators who were playing the new game instead of trying to play CS1. After all the bad news about the game today, this made me feel like I still would want to play it. I'd like to see more street level video about how people are using the city.
It's a good game but the performance issues lock a good amount of people out of playing. When they optimize it and even add DLSS or FSR to the game I expect it to be a great successor to CS1.
i bought it and we definetly worth, alll the additions are amazing! No money to terraform, money is way easier to come by now when you get to each level making it more fun as you dont go bankrupt right away to start. This game is very fun, the performance needs to improve but the devs have already said that is what they are currently working on.@@Invincable84
I am soooo excited about this video, and even more excited to be able to play it for myself on the 24th! 🎉🎉
I think the port should be towards the top of the Island, in the open seas. This way it would be a deep sea port, be near to the shipping lane and cargo ships would not have to divert that much to dock at the port.
idk i think it's pretty realistic to have the harbor be in there. You'd always want calm seas at your port to ease docking and departure maneuvers, and in case of storms, you'd want to avoid damages to the infrastructure. I imagine he'd wanna use the rest of the inner coastline as a harbor, leaving the view of the open ocean for beachfront properties, hotels and parks.
@@mygetawayart True, you would want to keep the port safe from the natural elements but majority of the ports of countries have deep sea ports which means accessibility to larger cargo ships with easy access from the shipping route. For protection however, a sea wall could be used like he used in Port Douglas I think. But all major ports are always open and deep sea.
@@grunge0023 Generally speaking: If you have the option to use a bay or have some sort of big river/river delta, you want to use that as a harbour and dig it deep for the biggest cargo ships.
For example take a look at europes Nr1 and Nr2 biggest ports. Rotterdam and Hamburg. Theyre both using a rivers. In the case of Hamburg its more than a 100km(~60miles) away from the ocean. New York would be a good example aswell.
As for the river delta, you could take a look at Shenzen.
As for a bay, you could look at the broader port area of Athens, Rio de Janierio, San Francisco , Pearl Habour even Hongkong.
An example if you dont have such natural features is Barcelona or Los Angelos. Were you find seawalls, as you discribed.
@@grunge0023 not entirely true. Many big ports are indeed protected by natural barriers. Just because there's land protecting it from the elements doesn't mean the water is shallow. Oslo port comes to mind.
@@elementalgolem5498 I did not know that. Thank you for adding to my information, I always thought that major shipping ports were always deep sea and with no natural barriers like Dubai, Salalah and most deep sea ports of South Asia and East Asia.
Your commentary is absolutely hilarious. Love all the subtle jabs 🤣
This is very well done! I’ve been watching a lot of CS2 content lately and I throughly enjoyed your ideas! ❤️ keep making more videos.
The grid trick was brilliant! I cant wait to play this
I hope you would be able to post new videos sooner and we would not have to wait for them that long.
I came across your channel probably 2 weeks back and I have been watching the old videos... It helps me relax due to some reason I cannot explain. Keep the videos rolling!
i got an ad right around the scene where mr. krabs is swimming in money. very accurate
Your organic grids strategy instantly reminded me of Seattle, where all the suburbs are North-South-aligned grids, but then Downtown and Belltown are grids at different angles (but still connected). I like it a lot, even though I moved back to Europe it gave me some nostalgia for my time living in Seattle, with a view of the three grid orientations from my apartment.
Man I just could not get my quays to work the way you did it. I improvised and if you right click the middle of the dirt in one of the roads to set the leveler, and then level the path of the roads you made and make a platform about half way down the side of the road no in the water bs. Thanks for the pre road idea, great to help guide your layout.
Love the build thanks.
I have the fix, it's dirty and it doesn't look as slick but it does work. So get to the point where you've terraformed the sea up to the very edge of the road, go until you cant get any closer, now instead of the next step of rebuilding out the terrain from the roads, instead delete road sections one or two at a time, and now get your alley or road turn off all snapping and build where the old road was, or until you see the wall section on one side and it'll allow you to make the quay. Rinse and repeat as you get close to the existing roads. It's finnicky and sometimes requires a little and I mean a LITTLE terraforming but it does work. It isn't as neat and precise either since it's not snapped to a grid but this will get it done for you. Makes sure your road height is set to 2.5
Note that ‘Southport’ is a real town near Liverpool in the UK.
I'm so excited for CS:II
"I hope that's a well-paid union job" delivered in such a dry tone can fit so many professions, not only the poop dispenser maintenanace technician.
I saw a review in IGN and another channel. Reviewers keep ranting about how everything is so hard, lots dont fall into place when the terrain isnt flat, and everything looks ugly. But all streamers playing SC2 build spectacular cities, everything looks beautiful and neat.
ufff this can take me hours to get something similar.... im so messy when planning
nice road layout!
HELP! When making a harbor like you did, whatever i do, the roads on the edge says "in water" - what am i doing wrong??
Could you uploade a video of how you build Quays? maybe a short?
As an American, I’ll say the USA slander was hilarious and completely justified 😅😂
The one mod I'm really desparate for is an instantly-grown trees mod, I can be patient for the rest but damn these tiny trees just really mess with my sense of scale when trying to plan out nice-looking things.
this is very useful, thank you
liked the tiny, hidden critisism of the the american public services hahah
You can draw outside connections on any map
I feel like I'm watching an artist paint
You always build such amazing cities! Love from Canada! :) I am most definitely going to be stealing lots of your ideas! >=D
Can't you add ship connections later? You just need to buy boxes to the edge of the map
You really don't need the cemetery for quite a long time. Service from neighboring cities seems to be free, much like garbage disposal.
How can you "move" the streets like at 11:19? I have "replace" activated but when I click and hold on it, I can't move them like in the video, please help :D
man that jab at american internet infrastructure hurt my soul..... lmao good video
I wanna add the wide-sidewalks modification to those intersections so bad. 😩
Loving this city! ❤
You call, or name this a beginners guide. I can see that you know what you are doing and have skills. But making a video for beginners you need to explain more what you do, but also why. Explain how it works, what do we need to think of and how we need to plan. Where do we find things in the menu, what buttons etc.. Or do you have other videos for beginners?
Thank you, you have got a very interesting and cute video, in some moments I play just like you! Waiting for the release of the game!
Have the devs done something to the game to stop you from building keys? cause I keep getting can't build the road as it's saying it's in water after I have landscaped over water! It is so frustrating lol, I thought I was doing something wrong so loaded up the same map as you and copied what you are doing exactly and it's still saying the same!
Let’s move somewhere else 😂 42:04
HOW DID U DO THE WATER FORM PART.. MY WATER BUGS AND DONT GO WHERE I WANT IT TO AFTER FORMING HARBOUR LAYOUT
The gas-station joke is fair; but I raise you the Seattle-density of Starbucks. (i.e. 4+ per city block)
North American theme in the Southern hemisphere? i'm guessing that's to do with player freedom and sandbox lol
32:00 bro its a beginner guide. you need to show that ^^
Are you ready mr poopdispencer 😂😂😂😂😂😂
18:46 How can you place the roads so near to the water`? For me it always says "in the water" and I cant place. Any advise?

you make it look so easy and natural.. can't wait to replicate made a bunch of notes..
I am glad you enjoyed it, let me know if you have any questions! ☺

Thank you very much Harman, I appreciate that! Love from Denmark ☺

Love your work! Just wondering on your accent; are u Danish? Greets from Amsterdam
Glad to hear that Alexander, thanks!
And good guess, I am Danish. Greetings from Northern Denmark ☺
"I guess I was voted in because I'm tough on crime and stuff so I'm building a police station somewhere so that we can fight a war on drugs or something" This is hilarious! You definitely got the crappy American Mayor politics vibe down!
As soon as I heard that I went to the comments haha. You were the 2nd comment.
I think I have watched this video around 10 times already, always pausing and rewinding to see if I have missed anything! I love how simple and efficiently you explain your techniques to build a realstically feeling city! I would love for you to continue this series and expand on Southport a bit more! In the meantime, I will continue watching your Riverview series. Take care
Pools in low income houses are not that unusual in America...especially those above ground ones. They are quite cheap around here.
Ah, interesting! Thanks for the input.
Have you priced above ground pools lately? The one I'm looking at will cost over $6000 self-installed and it's nothing special. Sure, that's not the $30,000+ you'll spend on an in-ground but i wouldn't call it cheap!
@@Chris-xo2rq A normal overground Pool out of metal or the bigger rubber ones with around 3m diameter ist below 1000€ here(pump etc included). So yes pretty cheap.
@@Chris-xo2rq yep. 139 dollars for a 10 feet diameter one at Walmart.
There is also a 279.99 one that is 15 feet in diameter...also at Walmart.
@@kleberalmeida Those are not real pools... those are temporary things that will collapse after their first winter where I live.

Certainly not where I lived, anyway
I dunno if it's hilarious or morbidly insightful that an American City Hall is better represented by a Crematorium.
Can you do a tutorial on your “quays” because I am completely unable replicate it because the game says the alleys are in the water when they’re not?

Infrastructurist, 2023
Thank you so much for this video, I've been stuck in my old ways of CS1 by griding out the entire city. Your idea of using the grid tool to make several grids and connecting them really helps escape the urban hell I've been used to, and helps me make the best cities i can dream of
I absolutely love how ruthless you are on American City planning, as an American I play cities skylines to escape all the bullshit we live with so it's always nice to hear that other people see it, too. The more the merrier, maybe things will get better :)
....I've lived in Europe. It's just as bad and even worse in many places given how old the cities are and the way old decisions just don't fit modern city needs.
Feel free to leave the USA and live in some shithole Europeeon (SIC) country.
@@davidrymwar5812 Exactly, these people are clueless if they think Europe has better countries. You are taxed to death over there, and healthcare is very poor. Look at the teeth of most brits for example.
self hate! Huzzah!
Would rly like a tutorial for a European Style city or just the roadlayout
I like your precision but you also like to add character to the city. I find myself being very predictable but this gives me ideas on how to be more creative. Great video.
Very happy youre doing this tutorial. My biggest problem is expanding the city and dont get repetetive with the grids and neighborhoods. Keep up the awesome CS2 content!
This is a CS1 problem. In CS2... pick a new spot on the map and buy a few tiles. Start something new. Then allow development to fill in between naturally
I always struggle with setting up proper districts, downtown, suburbs, etc. This is so helpful. Absolutely going to go through the rest of your videos. Thank you so much!
This video has taught me so much, are you planning on doing more on this city? Keep up the great content!
Didn't expect to be laughing so much in this video. Not only are you a genius at making these cities, but you're quite funny too! Great video man, keep em coming.
Infrastructurist: You can haul their ass to school in those large family SUVs.
Big Yellow Buses: Am I a joke to you?
I would like to see how to make good profit in a realistic city. I am really struggling with making profit while also detailing a lot
Whenever I try to make a port like you did around min 19, when I try to place the outer alleys, the ones next to the water to get the wall look, it says "In water" and won't let me place like you did, any idea how to fix that? Thank you
Infrastructurist, you are my favourite cities skylines creator. Hands down amazing.
I have been trying to play along with you to learn the game, but my grid plots always seem to be broken. I would love to know how you get grids where all the boxes are solid. I have tried and tried, but just can't seem to get it looking anything like yours.
LOL such a European idea of what a NA city is supposed to be 🤭
😂 being a North American who supports schools and humanitarian efforts, I enjoy the quips critiquing society. I appreciate you for this.
how do you make the quay/key walls look so bloody easy to make? say here for 2hours trying to do it and every single line i do about correctly and then one or two corners or even a straight edge the terrain snaps to the road....... anyway to download a map with the harbor built in? I can get the quay/key walls on land no issues but when the watter is involve it just does happen
got the same prob
I just realized how is barrier island map set in North America but is in the southern hemisphere?
blud was edging me on the grand village milestone 😭
great video, keep it up !!!
Is it okay to let industrial or commercial zone demands stay high for a bit? I'm struggling with staying profitable, and was wondering what would happen if I didn't zone so frequently and let it kind of sit.
Watching you build in this game is like watching Bob Ross paint. A bunch of random looking brush strokes with different tools and ending up with beautiful art work.
Your videos have me chomping at the bit to play Cities Skylines 2! I CANT WAIT for Tuesday
you have a pretty movie centric skewed view of American cities lol.
Do all maps have full seasons?
Hi! They all have seasons - but the warmer maps do now have snow on the ground - but even on warm maps, if you create tall mountains you will get snow-capped peaks
@@Infrastructurist you are a good UA-camr ❤
This is a great tutorial, especially the section on how to imitate quays using road tools. I'm a big fan of your builds and while I get that there's low hanging fruit regarding NA city planning (rather the lack thereof) that invites some deserved sarcasm, it's a bit overdone here. European guy sarcastically quipping about how awful the US and Canada are is just tiresome as an aesthetic and I do hope you scale it back somewhat in future videos.
God the worst part about watching European CS2 content creators are the endless jabs at America
And there not wrong all the ‘jabs’ are very true

Probably close to half of Cities Skylines players start off feeling overwhelmed and restart a few times, but it gets better and more interesting as you figure it out. Hope you're having fun with it
You seem to be quite ignorant when it comes to life in America..
Sounds pretty accurate to me
@@Ausfailia you have gas stations side by side where you live?
@@jaeaustin7362 pretty much, there's some fuel stations within 1-2 minutes drive of each other

OMG the satirical roasting of U.S. cities. "I guess I was voted in because I'm tough on crime... Let's build a police station somewhere so that we can fight a war on drugs or something... We need to incarcerate some people... just a feeling deep in my stomach." 🤣🤣🤣
"Go serve some justice boys!"
So to me this city looks really good, but what about a European rural area playthrough? I haven't seen anyone try this... Villages of various sizes (the smallest basically just one street in size), farmland, forests, with perhaps one or two small cities more towards the edge of the map? (so added later in the playthrough). Is this feasible? I'm not good at city builders yet, but I'm finding myself really struggling with doing this in a realistic manner in CS2, at least succesfully. Realistically, at least from my real life experience, only the cities would have hospitals, while some of the larger villages may have their own police or fire station if they cannot rely on those from the city. I'd love to see this if you're up for the challenge!
Besides helping with asthetics, do trees actually affect the simulation? Do trees help reduce air pollution, or noise ? Or do trees increase happiness of the city residents?
The more I watch cities 2, the more I realize my favorite and least favorite part.
It feels way more realistic!
It also feels very grey….
i cannot figure how to do what you're doing at 12:30. When I select grid mode, after my first click it always wants to connect the grid to the main road
Props for making those Quays, impossible to make them right now. Hope they come with a solution!
I love the constant accurate disses of America hahaha
Now we need a Northport for them to travel to
Not sure I'm a fan of how square your city is. It's just straight roads. At least here in the UK, no roads are that straight here. The houses need some culdesacs so they're happier, houses don't do well on main roads as they're too busy.
Please continue this city too! pleaseee
To be honest, even playing legit, you just build geothermal electric plants everywhere possible, upgrade them and export what they make (one seperate powerline to the edge of the map each). I have 40k pop, $100mill and almost 200k/hr. I can AFK and the city basically runs itself for hours.
