  • The extremely aggressive and damaging Oriental bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus) is difficult to control due to its root suckering ability and prolific seed production. To control the vine, you must control the roots. Cutting them at ground level is typically the first step in this process followed by a foliar herbicide application. This video will teach you when and how to apply control measures to successfully get this invasive vine under control.

    Thanks for the useful insights. I have had very good success, cutting large vines near the base and treating the cuts with undiluted glyphosate.

    This horrendous vine has sprouted all over the unmowed areas of my property. Its sudden appearance everywhere makes me think eradication will be impossible.

    Question: Will cutting, then chipping actually result in those remnants sprouting new vines? Same question for machine mulching of the understory growth.

    ok this confirms what I got when I seen how the big vines look on the ground Guess I better cut them down its really thick too like a mans thigh
