The lever switches between the pickups on the guitar, which changes the tone and quality of the sounds. You can hear between beefier sound vs brighter sounds for example.

Cry Closet Media It switches from bridge, middle and neck. Often times there are positions in between. So, Bridge/middle, middle, middle/neck and neck. (I realize this is 7months old but.)

It’s called a pickup selector and the other knobs are tone knobs which tweak the low end on certain pickups

Lever thing = Pickup selector, with that particular guitar back position is back pickup which has more treble, 2nd back position is back and middle pick up together which has the treble but with little more low tones mid position is mid and so on and so forth, basically closer to neck the pickup "fatter" the sound gets.

Ascend sounds so much better on his new guitar. I might just be biased because the Ernie-Ball Musicman is one of my favorite guitars, only second to the Ernie-Ball majesty.

That guitar has three knobs, volume and 2x tone, the 2x tone are for the different sets of pickups.
He has 3 single coil pickups on that guitar, and the lever has 5 positions for different wiring combinations of the 3 pickups, each give a different tone for musical styling.

Its a pick up selector switch it switches between the bridge and neck pick ups to change the sound/tone of the guitar :)
