I was angry. Searched the word despair. Saw some videos, still felt angry. I thought this video was going to be the same. But it had 3 things that made me feel better. 1. Soothing voice 2. Relaxing music 3. Ability to make me daydream of the past because i remembered the feeling of reading some of the works of these writers. I don't think Kant said anything like "religion is within the limits of reason alone." His first critique's aimed, among many other things, to detail the limits of reason (he even says something like "bring reason to trial") and to "make room for faith"

My philosophy is pretty simple the meaning of life is to live. The center of the universe is life the purpose of life is to lead the next generation into a greater and better existence experience than what was available for ourselves this is an act of selflessness and selfishness.
Most times I watch your videos, or other videos alike, the list of litterature I wish to read only grows longer. If only we could surround ourselves with our thirst for knowledge and different thought patterns. Fuck.

All this was written before we gained significant understanding of science and human psychology. We have seen an evolution of gods and the ones that are institutionalized in organized religion are shortcuts to knowledge and are obsolete. Is "god" merely a placeholder for what we can not know? If we can not know god, how does this ease our burden of uncertainty of our purpose in nature? No, God is what you perceive it to be in your imagination. For me, I do not need god to escape groundlessness, there is purpose in how I contribute in creating a social environment, and that social environment is one in which we seek harmony with nature and society. Not only must we assume personal responsibility, but we must affect social responsibility, for it is that harmony with everything that determines our fitness, that we should hold as the greatest value.
I find it hard to find peace without spirituality, though. You don't need to believe in god, but if you don't speak the language, so to speak, you end up deaf to some of the greatest insights, dare I not call them knowledge, that will save a man's life (his real life, as an individual).
@@andredelacerdasantos4439 I am not advocating any kind of materialism, certainly a lot of desire and suffering in the Buddhist sense is caused by materialism. I do not think a spirit exists separate from physical manifestation. I do not think there can be consciousness without a brain. But certainly one can be spiritual in the sense that the importance of materialism is diminished.
@@JohnWilliams-channel Well, the way I see it, there doesn't need to be an actual physical reality in front of us for there to be what we call "reality" (in the sense that we believe we are perceiving the material world through our senses), since in our dreams, we are deceived into thinking we are real and that the manifestations we are perceiving are material, or physical, even though all those images, sounds, experiences and memories took "place" without any material reality to be perceived. Our dreams may take "place" in a non-location, without a reality dome, so to speak, but they are bound to the material world to our bodies and wouldn't happen if the body ceased to exist. If I may ask, what is the social environment that seek harmony with nature that you spoke of?
It's a funny thing that when death comes we appreciate everything so much more. Life is a delicate thing that should never be seen as ordinary. I'm fascinated by nature and how we all survive day by day. In America with all the school shootings , there is deep profound void for meaning. The focus is on the weapon but what about the perp. I see the downfall as lack of communication within families and technology that embraces likes for popularity and lack of community as the reason for isolation. Of course there is the argument of toxic masculinity which is complete bullshit. Is the reason for mass killings because God is not in the schools? Nietzsche said once God is dead than the rest is nothing.

Once a person has witnessed death and its occurrence in seconds, in the most absurd, petty way, in the most meaningless manner, there is no chance of her in believing that there is something beyond the cause and effect. Whatever it is, It's here in this World in the concrete fashion.
Although someone might become cynical and horrified by the world after witnessing the worst of mankind, how can you be sure the law of cause and effect as it relates to you does not extend beyond one lifetime?
Did he actually write that he believed in an afterlife, though? (Genuine question, I've never read his work) Personally, I didn't get the impression that he necessarily believed in an afterlife from this video alone. Maybe I was distracted for a moment and missed it.

What I am talking about is that when we do something, only then the things work. Things do not depend on something metaphysical. If I want to skip death in Covid, I'll have to take care of the precautions and whoever won't, no matter how much she is a good person, she'll die. And if someone says that sometimes miracle happens, it's exactly then that I believe in something called cause and effect. Suppose she helped a person once and that one turned out to be a good doctor and then takes her as priority and saves her who was otherwise dying. This way I believe in something called a circle of life. But haven't we all seen even a cruel person living a better life than many good people? So if this thing doesn't work in the same life, how can we know anything about afterlife? And what's this After Life anyway? Do we have any proof? And also yes we become cynical but it's also in this life that we start appreciating the true goodness only after seeing bad things. That's faith for me. Faith in oneself and in the impact of goodness

Kansas view on religion was exactly the opposite, that God was utterly unknowable and unprovoked by human reason. That's basic to Kantian thought.

Is irrational belief in god / faith really the best way to pull ourselves out of despair? I find that difficult to believe now in the 21st century
