I never expect Dan’s speaking voice and singing voice to be so vastly different.
I first discovered The Wonder Years when I stumbled across Came Out Swinging in 2015. That year, I was 19 and I had to move back in with my parents because I couldn't afford on-campus housing. I was working almost full time at KFC and going to college full time, eating and sleeping just enough to keep me going. I was depressed and anxious and I felt hopeless. I have vivid memories of mopping the KFC bathroom floor while blasting Came Out Swinging through my headphones and promising myself that I'd get through it. In the 5 years since then, I finished that degree and a Masters degree, got engaged, and landed my dream job. Hearing the chorus of this new song takes me back to that shit winter in 2015, putting on my freshly washed uniform that somehow still smelled of stale grease, digging my car out of the snow so I could drive to work and digging it out again after my shift so I could drive back home.
Damn, that's an awesome story. We all angsty teenagers hope to make it where you find yourself today!

Very similar story. This song was like a religious experience for me. They always have a way of writing about very specific things and making it relatable.

Now I have a nostalgic feeling of wanting to visit my hometown in Philadelphia after finally making it outside, even though I’ve never been to Philadelphia.
as a canadian, the american mid west rust belt era fascinates me, even as I observe it in it's midst, if only from afar, mostly.
I accidentally overheard this song on my Spotify recommends. I was working 2 jobs, getting my girl through college and had 1 day off per week, every 2-3 weeks. She's graduated, but I'll never forget crying my eyes out from the exhaustion I felt, the pain in my feet and back, the excruciating delve of despair that I felt as I constantly guesses to myself 'is this it? Is this all I'm doing for the rest of my life?' The song got me thru the day at least every time, and now I'm going to go all the way with my college degree and doing 100% better.
More importantly, the production quality of these songs have finally gone back to the good days.
A factor could be that they asked the producer who produced those albums to work on these two songs so I’m not sure if this is a one shot for the producer or if they are going to continue to work with them

Some of the greatest nights of my life were hanging around with my friends, listening to Upsides, Suburbia, and Greatest Generation for hours on end, hoping into somebodies car and going down the city to see the wonder years. favorite part of being from philly is connecting with all of their songs.

My favorite band without a doubt :) this one feels extra special, having the line “The Wayside” in there, my band’s name, I know has nothing to do with me, but like every song by The Wonder Years, it feels so personal and connected to my life. Every song has it’s own unique meaning/past behind it.
