Not just a great player; a stellar communicator.
Thank you, I’m so sick of being shamed by UA-cam teachers for wanting to maximize basic chords.I have no desire to show off, learn things I can never actually use, or am deluded in thinking I’ll be famous one day. Just want to be tasteful.
its really good to be honest with oneself and know what kind of player you want to be and what you need to learn and what you don't...toss the rest and enjoy. It years for me to realise that soloing isnt very important to me...and Whilst I can and have a modicum of neck knowledge, rankly just want to play songs...and I gravitate to the Rhythm guitar parts I like and the guitarist who play them. It is very helpful though to have at least some neck knowledge...the more you have the less you get stuck...and it opens up the door to play with others...playing with other musicians is where you really improve...that's where you really build your chops....god luck and enjoy!!!
@@ldhorricks and that’s exactly where I am. Thank you for the encouragement. Keep up the god work.
Simple yet valuable lesson. I think a lot of people overlook the open positions of the pentatonics and they are very useful.
the best lesson of all....serve the song!
Very well-spoken, easy to comprehend teacher. Not hokey or gimmicky. Nice, straightforward lesson. Thank you Eric.
The first 3 minutes of this video is a game changer. So simple but effective techniques for getting out of chord playing rutts. Really enjoying the binge watching of Erics channel. So much valuable content. ❤
This is the best guitar teacher on UA-cam
Learnt so much in like 2 months with eric , everyone else... takes me forever to instill any of the info , honestly my favourite channel on YT
100% agree
He’s the best!!!!
I'm pretty loyal to Marty, but it is hard to argue against that comment.
Just found Eric… also like Brian from Active Melody, both these guys communicate extremely well, will be Subscribing to Eric now as well.
Thank you! That opened up a whole new level for me. The droning note. I couldn't put my finger, no pun intended, on the seamless sound of picking and strumming until this lesson. Ripple here I come!
I haven’t picked up my old acoustic guitar for ages, but you have just inspired me to see it in a new light. Thanks very much
Eric -- I've been doing one of your simple groove and fill drills for a couple weeks, and it has completely transformed my playing. Thanks for including these in your lessons, oh prince of the six strings
I saved this lessons to my favorites and subscribed immediately. Thanks for the lesson! It is exactly what I have been looking for. Fills in each key of the open position that sound great on an acoustic. I look forward to checking out more of your lessons Eric.
Great lesson as always! I believe it is the Lester Flatt G Run since he was the guitar player and Earl Scruggs was the banjo player.
How serendipitous! I was watching a video of Molly Tuttle on crosspicking yesterday, and then this morning a video of her and Tommy Emmanuel discussing (among other things) how to not get into each other's sonic space when playing with someone else. Your video brushes on some these topics, but at a level that's accessible to me. Thanks Eric!
The great algorithm in the sky is watching us.
Thankful to Eric for allowing me (us?) to quit trying to blend major and minor scales, especially in the open position. I have found this often recommended practice to be confusing and I like the freedom to stick with the key I'm in...this is a great lesson, and I thank Eric for providing the tabs making practice much easier. As you all know, Eric is the go-to teacher for those of us who aspire to Dave Rawlinsdom; all I've done so far is buy the cowboy hat.
Great video. That Eastman is beautiful!
Eastman has been making some good stuff!
Love the choice of Sweet Virginia
Eric, you are a gift to the guitar playing community, may God bless everything you put your hand to, I'm learning somethin new everyday that I watch your instructional videos, thanks so much!
Eric, I've been following your channel for a few months. I try to make time every weekend for your new video and I've been delving into your series on jazz for rockers and whatever it's called and the theory series, which I had an ok handle on but you really helped me apply it to guitar playing.
I have improved so much, not just as a player, but also compositionally, I've gone back to a lot of songs I've been working on and throwing is a few things here and there I picked up on you. Just wanted to say thanks
No way, this is exactly what I've been looking for! THanks Eric!!
Omigosh! First time ever a lesson that has stuff I actually regularly do!
I always feel like I’m just playing the simplest stuff when I’m playing like this on acoustic. It’s what I can sing along with and not get lost. I feel validated!
Thank you, Eric! ✌️😌🎸
Extra tasty zone of playing that we all underestimate - me likey!
Not geared directly towards flat pickers directly, but every newish bluegrass flat picker should watch this video.
Easy to understand and major pentatonics out of open position is foundational to the genre.
What a brilliant lesson. As guitarists we tend to want to move away from these campfire chords & tend to look for something more complex to look impressive but this lesson proves just how cool open chords & licks can be. Thankyou for posting this video Eric
Its very usefull❤❤❤thanks alot
Killer lesson. Exactly what I've been trying to work on recently. Thanks, Eric!
One more great lesson. Thanks, Eric!
Awesome cover. Strumming has created an excellent feel of this song
Another brilliant lesson from Eric. I knew all this but I didn't really. Such a fine way to spend a couple of hours on a cold, rainy evening>
This was a great lesson Eric. Loaded! I've been bingeing on your lessons lately. Been following you for a few years, I love your teaching style. You are a unique treasure. Looking forward making the Patreon plunge, you'll be my first. And your courses are on my list as well. I liked your Andy Summers video too and so many others. I'm 66, been playing since my teenage years but really been diving into CAGED, Triads, just this last year really and trying to up my game on fretboard knowledge. I follow too many UA-cam instructors to list but you're especially awesome. Just want to send a little love
Really useful and accessible lesson. Thanks, man.
You put out these videos faster than I can digest the content, which is cool
So helpful to the skills I'm trying to develop, thank you!
Dude, your lessons plug so many holes in the levees of my musical comprehension. Sure, I've been playing the Flatt run in G and C for years but I never applied a little discipline to learning it for other open chords. Likewise, it hadn't occurred to me that the flat 3rd is an approach note that can go to the 3rd or the 2nd. Good stuff!
Love it! Very good content and excellent presentation. It’ll take me awhile to to try to incorporate into my playing but definitely the answer to how to improve my playing. Thanks 🤙🏻
Sometimes you tube really blesses you!!
Great teacher great skills!
Thank you!
This is an awesome lesson! Thank you !
Super accessible instruction, and super nice sounding guitar!
What a fantastic video have a wonderful Easter long weekend Eric ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Loved it Eric! That lesson convinced me to subscribe lol. Really good lesson!
Wonderful Eastman.
Well done Eric….
This is awesome Eric.

Nice to see another Eastman fan
I want that Eastman. Gimme.

Yes! Loved this!
So good. Thank you sir.
Great ! love that easy way you teach things Great!
Love those Eastman parlours 🤩😍👍 really really want one.
Very nice! Thanks brother!
This is a very fine lesson. Well composed, well spoken and well played. The best you can get.
Hi Eric, i just bought your new course and remembered to go through your website link. Thanks for all the content, keep it up mate.
Thanks so much Brett!
Great teacher....thanks.
Wow I like this kind of music....
I've always been very afraid of playing lead guitar, Not necessarily because of the exercise, But I see a lot of players these days who like to play really fast and show off all the time that it's always intimidated me. I think I have now found the perfect video for me to not get away from my strong rhythm playing, But to add a little flavor to it without coming off as too egotistic.
If you really want to get good, and I think it's more impressive than electric guitar players, is bluegrass, or flat picking. Flat picking is basically country guitar shredding lol
Thanks man! Very educational, also your acoustic sounds very nice. Reminds me of something Robert Johnson or Lightning Hopkins would play lol
Love it man
awesome as always! the best lesson of all....serve the song! great emphasis on that point. love these acoustic focused videos lately! "minor swing" django (with a little marc ribot) would be a great lesson.
Check out @alexfarranguitar he does all that stuff!
@@EricHaugenGuitar there are indeed many great players and instructors out there but i (and others) would find your interpretation very interesting and probably turn a lot of people on to django/gypsy jazz. a little marc ribot for spice would be great of course. Frantz Casseus Haitian classical player taught marc ribot. a video on his music would be great!
Love you lessons,,
Love it!
Thanks for the lessons..you have a new sub..
Greetings.
Thanks, Eric. Great lesson
good lesson very clear
Love. It.
Just bought the lesson!
Hope the sore arm/shoulder is feeling better, thanks for the video.
Thanks Frank! I can play standing up just fine - going to see another specialist next week!
best lesson tnx
Love your channel.
Bought 2 of your trufire courses!
*bought
Thank you , i like it because you use guitar pick instead fingers !
Great video. I have a hard time not doing the major/minor conversion thing you were mentioning…trying to get out of that habit! When I hear C Major, I think A Minor. G major = E minor, etc…
Eric great job, I was wandering what pick and gage you are using, again great job and thanks
I think that big boy pick is around 1.14 / I like anything in the 1mm area
Great lesson. Love that Eastman guitar too. What model is it?
¡Gracias!
Thanks so much!
Thanks
Thanks Kevin!
Great as always Eric, slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Eat Pizza 🍕
Skiddley diddly doo😅 technicle terminology. Good lesson man!
Great lesson but what model Eastman is that?! It sounds sublime!
DANG that parlor guitar lookin good man
not a parlor.
Hello, thank you for your videos, question, As your shifting chords and locating pentatonics, is there a method to what pattern your using or is the pattern a preference? Example, a lot of people favor using a G pattern to run through a scale in a particular key. I get confused on how to choose the appropriate pattern for the root note. Thanks in advance.
You always have the option to do a full from the overall key of the song, or if the song stays on the chord long enough - you can put a happy little pentatonic there!
Dude, I want to tour with you. Your content is fantastic, seem like a good hang. If you ever need a FOH engineer, hit me up.
What model Eastman is that? It’s nice
BITCHIN' video😃👍👍
Great sounding parlor😎👍👍
Playing along with you in head...I kept adding a pre-bend here and there 😁
😎✌👍❤🖖
I had a knock on the door. It was the You Tube Eric Haugen Police.
They said to slow down.
And they delivered a pizza.
First time I have watched you, j enjoy your relaxed way of presenting a video, great lesson
Let's goooo
Great video as usual, but please tell me where I can get that sweet jacket!
Express!
@@EricHaugenGuitar Thank you! And thank you for making more acoustic videos. They’re my favorite.
Eric✌🏻🎸🎶🍕
👍👍👍
Flatt & Scruggs. Lester Flatt was the guitar player, Scruggs the Banjo player. It's called the Lester Flatt run
Is the Eastman a new toy Eric
Yeah! My old Goya is in a sorry state and I needed something similar but with proper intonation ✔️
@@EricHaugenGuitarKudos on the fine tone you’re pulling out of it. A good guitar is nice, but it’s your well-developed technique that really makes it sound so good.
The song
I appreciate the tip:
Separate the Major and Minor Pentatonic
Instead of always thinking about the relative… 🙋🏻♂️
At 51, am I ready to relearn how I hold a Dm? I'll do it
Assuming you’ll be playing at least another 30 years, it will be worth it!
that gitar is as purdy as you eric
Good lesson, but putting that strap on the hdsttock is ruining your neck
