Watching your videos give me hope. Not all Americans are going down the toilet. You're honest, loving, intelligent, and creative among many other great things ❤💜💚
Love the netting idea. I think I would put two layers of the netting down. Pull 1 layer as the grow then you can pull the other 1 up after they grow some more. That way you double the support incase 1 breaks.
I just finished the last bed for my cutflower garden and my perennial cutflower bed! Can't wait for my last frost date! & yes you would be amazed by how many bouquets you can get out of a small space cutting garden! What are you planting for filler? All the flower farmers say to plant almost 50% filler & filler flowers, 50% focal flowers, spikes and/ or draping flowers. I learned so much from Florets books! I have "A Cutflower Garden" ''A Year In Flowers" & "Discovering Dahlias" I love them all!
The zinnia support looks great! Don’t forget to pinch your zinnias to get a more bushy plant. They benefit from pinching in the same way that basil and peppers do.
Isn't there a trade off though? Bushier plants produce more blossoms but with shorter stems. If Jill wants bouquet length stems, it seems better to leave them singular. I guess it depends on size of bouquets/cut flowers she wants.
@@TheSpottedBoot Lisa Mason Zigler and a few others I watch cut them back almost to the ground, leaving just a few sets of leaves. This is supposed to give longer stems.
Pinch when plants are 6 inches not when you are full grown .. if you pick pick pick you will keep producing , cut and come are a series that provide enough stem ..
So excited to see a flower farmer. This is my first year on a very small.scale and can use all.of the advice you can give....and I mean ALL!!! So happy to have found you and excited thst you are buying the Roots and Refuge farm to increase your own growing space. Congrats. And all of the advice.....please☺☺☺!☺☺
You can use the LILL lace curtains from IKEA ($4,99) as a insect nett. I use them here in the Netherlands and it works really good. In the curtain seam you can put a pvc pipe as a tunnel.
This will be my first year of my cut flower garden and I have a Raised bed full of Zinnias too 💐🤗 I’m so excited to plant 🌱 my seedlings 🥰 I live in Ohio SOOO I am patiently waiting until you guys plant first then I’ll know it’s TIME 😍💐💐💐💐💐💐💫💫💫
That bed of zinnias will be so pretty. I got a pack of purple zinnia seeds and just tossed them in the hollow in my garden. They are fuschia coloured. I also planted giant mexican sunflowers but they are only just coming up. At least I think they are. The zinnias have re- seeded themselves and I pulled up the old ones.
I bought that netting as well and I’m trying to grow a cut flower garden this year for the first time. You are having better success with your seedlings than I am, but I hope I learn a lot! Best wishes!
Jill look at "you can't eat grass" she does alot of flowers in kelowna bc she does a lot of zinnias and lots of other kinds give her a look see... Just a suggestion... On YT
The Floret Farms book is great. I’ve borrowed it from my library in both digital and traditional forms multiple times. Maybe it’s time to just buy a copy.😂 Can’t wait to see all your lovely zinnias! My middle daughter (age4) and I were just discussing the possibility of creating an extra cut flower bed this and it will probably be filled with zinnias and cosmos.
Brilliant concept to support your cut flowers. Those garlic plants look like leeks. What type of garlic are they. Butterfly grave touched my heart big time. Reminded me of my daughter.
Great idea! Y’all got it going on in the greenhouse to. I built my wife Robbie Lynn a cattle panel greenhouse this year and we love it so far. GOD Bless Y’all. 🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇🧑🏻🌾🧑🏻🌾
Glad other people were wondering about the trellises for the zinnias also I thought what in the world thanks for explaining now I understand. Also you should celery as you were showing some garden beds would you keep us updated on that and tell us anything special to do I have not ever grown grown it and think I maybe would like to
Hey Jill and Nate. What an inginus idea. I can totally see how this will work. Mar y and I love your channel and your fam. Best of luck with this crazy late weather. Dave in TN.
Thank you so much for sharing a great video today and a lot of great information and tips always enjoy watching what you have to do. Hugs and kisses from grandma Sandy hope you and your family have an awesome Fourth of July weekend see you in the next video learning so much from you
I wonder how adding another layer of net at the next higher position now would work, rather than moving the low one up after your plants have grown up through it? Maybe it would reduce damage to the plants. Or you could try it on one section for comparison. BTW, that Tenax brand netting should be pretty good stuff, I use their deer fence around my garden and it is tough!
I can't wait to see how/if this works, interesting idea! I would think the leaves will come up through the holes also, and make moving it up not feasible?
Side note - I see you’re wearing what looks to be Birkenstock’s... I highly suggest the waterproof Birkenstock’s if you don’t have them already!! So nice because they don’t get gross when they get wet!
The Birko Flor? It doesn’t last near as long as leather. I just threw a pair of those away and took the leather ones to get new footbeds, cork and soles.
Love it! No doubt it’ll work! Can’t wait to see you blow the hater’s minds when you have beautifully trellised zinnias. Meanwhile, mine will be falling over bc I’m too lazy to trellis 🤣
I would fear the poles will bend over with added height and you won't be able to keep your trellis tight enough as the flowers get taller. I hope it works!
Also are you pinching your zinnias? I have a video that has a good example of why you should pinch your zinnias. But the jist of it is that it will give you a exponentially more blooms! Yes they will send out some side shoots eventually, but its usually not at the bottom, & it's never as many as if you were to pinch and cause them to send them out... If you pinch your zinnias above the 1st or 2nd set of true leaves it forces them to send out side shoots at the bottom b/c that's the only option. If you dont pinch, & let it send out shoots wherever, it usually causes VERY top heavy plants that can break in the wind!
I think I heard you say that you plan to put a zinnia plant in EACH square of the netting. This will never work. Zinnia plants grow quite wide and bushy. It will be way too crowded.
I love your vids but that there is a flat-out shit idea. Its going to be a complete pain to plant the middle of that bed and if you thing that plants growing through that thing are going to let you raise it up without damaging things and uprooting entire plants, you're dreaming. You'd have been far better of just putting a shade cloth wind break around the outside of the bed. My opinion notwithstanding, good luck with your flowers.
@@cynthiafisher9907 I'm a farmer and I just wouldn't do it that way. If you insist on this style of thing at least plant the bed first so you don't have to step through the thing and add a second layer later on so you don't have to try and move that mesh up.
Everything is looking beautiful and lush Jill 🌸🦋🌸
I didn’t realize how big your garden was till seeing this video. I hope the new owners cherish it 😊
Watching your videos give me hope. Not all Americans are going down the toilet. You're honest, loving, intelligent, and creative among many other great things ❤💜💚
Amen!
Looking forward to seeing you at Jess and Miah’s farm! Sounds like a blessing for all!
Please do a planting video! I would love to see how you plant them in the grid.
I planted and now. I have so much to cover. Praying my seeds survive this.

Jill, white is SOOO your color!
Those flowers are going to look so beautiful once they start popping up. I can't wait to see. 👍😀🌻🌱😎😍🌼🌷😎👍
OMG i totally bought some nylon trellis off amazon about 2 weeks ago, thank you for showing this cant wait to use this for them.
Best of luck in your this year in the garden
The metal pile at the dump is a good place to find things for the garden

Wow 😮 that's a big rutabaga your going to have a lot of zinnia flowers 🌺💮🌼🏵️🌸🌺 that's going to be very pretty

Hi Jill Zinnias are one of my fave flowers. COSMOS grows like crazy. I love the Sound of those chimes x

I am looking forward to how your zinnia trellis works out for you as they grow. Thank you for sharing this idea!
That trellising is super cool!! Your zinnias will do awesome this year
Thank you, I really hope so

Also check out the Gardners workshop on UA-cam. She is a professional flower farmer. Plus you might want to move netting out of the way to plant.
Beautiful flowers

Cool! Do you have a link that shows what/how you built?
Reminds me of my pole bean netting. Yes, it does come as a hot mess. But such a neat idea. Good luck with your cut flower sales.
I'm so ready to plant my garden! I'm growing flowers too so I will definitely have to try this :)
Girl I feel ya ❤ I hope you have a successful growing season this year

Stinking frost I’m over you 😜
Same here
This is also used for gladiolus and tall snaps
🐦 My favorite flower. 💝
Can't wait to see all the flowers! The bed looks wide, do you not need pathways or rows in between to plant and harvest?

Did you know making a weak solution of milk and water and spray on their leaves.....helps with keeping powdery mildew away....
Love flowers 😍
I like how that looks and think it’ll work 👍🏻 Will you be putting on a second ‘layer’ of netting as the zinnias get taller.
Thank you and great question. I will not put a second layer but move the netting up as the zinnias grow.
Awe the butterfly. Very sweet and thoughtful.

I feel ya with the frost. I want to do all the things.🌶🍓🥒💚🌻🍅❤️
Hello 👋
So excited to see this bed full of zinnias.
Are you going to pinch zinnias?
Best of luck.
I woke up to about 2-3 inches of snow in Central Kentucky this morning. 😂😢🤦🏼♀️❄️ It was 70° yesterday.
That is wild! I'm ready to start planting, how about you?
Yes!!!
Wow as im watching this your storm is brewing i heard thunder here in east tx fri night hope its not to bad when it gets to you❤❤❤👀
You can direct sow zinnia seeds!
Have I missed a LIVE. I think you and Nathan were doing them monthly?
You haven't missed a Live. We had to put those on hold for the time being
YAY! Been waiting for another great video!🥰👩🌾
whoa a little motion sick
Super clever. PS - RIP Tula ♥️
Aww thanks ❤ Love you
I would fear the poles will bend over with added height and you won't be able to keep your trellis tight enough as the flowers get taller. I hope it works!
So are you buying the old Roots n Refuge farm?
Also are you pinching your zinnias? I have a video that has a good example of why you should pinch your zinnias. But the jist of it is that it will give you a exponentially more blooms! Jill can you post where you get your beautiful headbands
She posts it on IG all the time. She gets them from Natural Life.
What kind of camera are you doing your videos with?
Hoping tonight’s the last time I have to bring in all my tomato and pepper plants lol
I think I heard you say that you plan to put a zinnia plant in EACH square of the netting. This will never work. Zinnia plants grow quite wide and bushy. It will be way too crowded.
So where do I buy those sticks
How early did you start your zinnias indoors? I did what it said on the pack but my seedlings are just a stalk and one leaf on top:(
I love the video but man that music is too loud!
If you said it I missed it, are you going to raise the trellis as the zinnias get taller?
She said, yes, she is.
Where do your coloful plant tags come from?
I get them from Amazon- you can find them in my storefront ☺️
Hey I'm growing zinnias for the first time this year. Does a plant produce 1 flower head or is it cut and come again?
It's cut and come again! They produce from summer through first frost.
Netting?? GREST IDEA!!
What size are those pots
They are the bootstrap farmer 2.5 inch pots
Zinnia’s what? No apostrophe necessary!
Do you think this trellis would work with tomatoes?
No I don’t think so
I love your vids but that there is a flat-out shit idea. This is the standard way flower farmers do it.
