Awesome teacher you are. Great ideas. I sub taught for many years for different school districts in two states. You definitely have to be highly organized as you are!

Wow, I love it! How many students though??? My struggle is so many different needs in my self-contained preschool class. I have 9 in the am and 9 in the pm with different eligibilities. I love the milk crate idea but it seems impossible due to storage and the kiddos getting into them, but I would love to try something like that. plastic shoe box bins are way too small.

I have 8 students in grades K-2 who have academic needs all over the place, which is why direct instruction is so crucial n my classroom. I have a lot of academic and functional goals to meet, which is why the milk crates work for me. I need the space! For a preK or ECH classroom you won't have as many academic goals or materials, so a milk crate may be too much. There are smaller locking storage bins you could try that are bigger than shoebox size. My crates stay on a shelf in an adult only zone, so students are taught (it takes a lot of teaching!) to stay out of that zone.

Is all your direct instruction 1:1? My school observes us while conducting lessons to “grade” us. Do you ever do a whole group lesson? If so, can you make a detailed video on how you’d do a lesson from start to finish?

Yes - I do whole group lessons, too! I make sure my paras are on the carpet with me and able to help support students at that time.

Your room is huge compared to my tiny room with up to 12 kids with 3 adults at one time

What are your other kids working on when you are doing the 1:1 instruction?

Working in larger centers with other staff or independent work stations and task boxes.
