Thank you for sharing this! Low tech alternatives for those who don’t have an oven or an instant pot : - my mother used to ferment portioned yogurt overnight in a pressure cooker with hot water grazing the top of the jars. - I don’t have a pressure cooker either, I used to put the jars in my biggest pot with hot water as well and wrap the whole thing with thick blankets. - I got a styrofoam box from an online purchase so now what I do is line the box with a fleece scarf, warm up the jars before pouring the yogurt in and but them in the box together with 2 - 3 jars filled with boiling water. I cover them with another fleece scarf before closing the box. Yogurt is really easy to make, don’t let yourself be discouraged by your lack of high tech equipment folks, it was invented way before technology was a thing 😉 I missed your husband in the taste test segment, I usually enjoy his comments, will he be coming back? I love making oatgurt in my Instant pot, the whole process... cooking and fermenting... is done in the stainless steel liner on the yogurt setting... high to cook, and when it cools to around 110 F just mix in the starter cover, and set to medium to ferment for 8-9 hours. I always do it before bed so my IP is free for all it's other daily uses and batch cooking.
Thank you for the great detail! With the Thermomix, could you please let me know what speed you set it to for the 30 seconds? Going to try this one very soon!
@@HealthOrigins I just purchased my new yoghurt maker, AKA an insulated cooler. I've got my first batch of oatmilk yoghurt fermenting. I I snugged towels above, below and beside the jars and closed the lid of the cooler. I used two 1 litre Mason jars filled with boiling water as the heat source. I'll check the cooler when I awake in the morning and reheat the water if needed. Wish me luck!
Wow...this is cool..... i stopped making this milk cos mine always became slimy. My blender is not very strong. Should i make my rolled oats into powder and then add the cold water in the blender? Or rolled oats would be fine even with a non hi speed blender?
Rolled oats will be fine in a blender, make sure you use cold water, don't blend longer than 1 minute and strain straight away and you should have a very yummy milk 🙂
Interesting recipe! Is it essential to strain the oats if you have a powerful blender (eg Vitamix)? I've made oat milk many times but never strained it. Not made yogurt (yet) though.
I think you would need some kind of starch for almond milk yogurt as it does not have enough protein like soy milk or natural thickener like in oat milk.
This looks lovely and thick. Did you close the lid on the instant pot or leave it open? I’ve been making soy yogurt twice a week and I love that you don’t need to heat the milk but I will give the oat a try and see if I prefer it. I have an old yogurt maker which I use but I would like to give the Instant Pot way a go so I can use larger jars.
@@HealthOrigins I thnk you misunderstood my question. I'm not asking about the lid on the glass jar, I wanted to know if you closed the lid of the Instant Pot for the 18 hours of heating - . In the video you had it open and then edited the video to further along in the process. I presume you did close it but just wanted to check so I don't do it wrong.
I’m definitely going to try this, as I always have oats on hand, plus I have a yogurt starter that I’ve been meaning to use. Thanks for sharing your experience. Stay well, Inga! Best wishes, Lindsay, from Canada 🇨🇦
I do not own or use microwave at all, as I don't believe it's a healthy way to heat anything up, it changes water molecules and how they get absorbed by the body - there were numerous experiments done by watering one plant with normal water and the other with the cooled microwaved water. The plant that got watered with the microwaved water died in a couple of weeks I believe. And yes, I could have used Thermomix or instant pot to heat the milk, but I find it takes so much longer to thicken stuff in the Thermomix for some reason, not sure why.
You can use a glass jar and keep it covered with a cloth somewhere warm, it will take longer at room temperature, but the yogurt should be ready in 24 hours.
Hello Karen, you can use either probiotic capsules or soy bean soak water. In fact, my next video that will be up on the channel on Friday will be how to make soy milk yogurt without a yogurt starter or probiotics 🙂
Can I use a vegan yogurt that has sugar and calcium added. I'm having a hard time finding it with out. Can I use a plain diary yogurt for the starter. I do realize it won't be vegan if I do.
My process is much simpler. Put oats + water + probiotic capsule in blender. Blend. Pour into glass container, cover with cloth and leave for 8+ hours. Done. The longer you leave it, the more tangy it gets. Once it's to your liking, put in the fridge. I've been making it this way for 10+ years. Sometimes I add coconut milk for an oat/coconut yogurt. I wouldn't like to strain or get rid of the pulp, the fiber is part of the reason I like oats.
Thank you for sharing! I am just learning how to make yogurt. I wanted an oat milk but was too slimy and not good. This is just what I was looking for! Anxious to try it!

You're very welcome! 🙂
Why didn’t you do the entire recipe in thermomix? I did enjoy your video. Thank you xxx

Great alternatives for fermenting yogurt without the yogurt maker Carine, thank you 🙂👍

That's an awesome idea, less pots to dirty and doing overnight frees up the pot for daytime cooking - genius! 👏🙂
I like that the yogurt gets its thickness from the oats and pectin isn't needed. Thanks!
You're very welcome! 🙂
This is really really neat. It's also awesome that you use the pulp for another recipe too!
Thank you, yes, I try to never waste food 🙂
Just stumbled upon your channel and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sharing and I will be making this❤
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed my videos, I hope you like the yogurt 🙂
Thank you for explaining every step so we'll. I will make it

You're very welcome! You can set the speed between 7 to 10.
thank u what a wonderful idea. Will b making this soon. When my fruit from our trees is ready this will b a great treat.
Yes, yogurt with your own grown fruit topping sounds delightful! You're welcome 🙂
Ma'am,
Thank you for this.
I think I'll try seven minutes cook time and 24 hours for incubation as I prefer tang in yoghurt.
You're very welcome!

I was incorrect.
I got the cooler to 60C
Which probably killed the bacteria.
So, trying again, using 45C water.
Sprinkle some of your home made granola on top, and that should make it a double yummy!
That's a good idea for a topping 🙂👍
Thank you so much. Great video as usually
You're very welcome 🙂
Thank you! I will try this.

Ive done this but blended the oats first into powder, and honestly it doesn't look like it makes a difference
Please can u say if you close the instant pot lid while you ferment it. Thanks..and lid on jar?
Yes, I close the instant pot and no lid on jar 🙂
Interesting recipe! Is it essential to strain the oats if you have a powerful blender (eg Vitamix)? I've made oat milk many times but never strained it. Not made yogurt (yet) though.
If you don't strain it, you will have a grainy yogurt/porridge 🙂
Thank you, I will definitely give this a try.
Great, you're very welcome! 🙂
hello, good day, could you try to make yogurt with almond milk and make it thick or heavy, please? Cheers
I think you would need some kind of starch for almond milk yogurt as it does not have enough protein like soy milk or natural thickener like in oat milk.
@@HealthOrigins could you try a video with this almond milk? Thanks a lot
Are we able to use dairy yogurt for the culture as well?
You could do, but the resulting yogurt would not be 100% plant based then.
Wonderful, thank you so much! I’ll try it today 😊

Long-cooking/whole oats or quick oats??????????????????????
Rolled oats are best for this, not quick oats.
Is there any reason you didn't cook the milk in the Thermomix, Instant Pot or microwave?
I do not own or use microwave at all, as I don't believe it's a healthy way to heat anything up, it changes water molecules and how they get absorbed by the body - there were numerous experiments done by watering one plant with normal water and the other with the cooled microwaved water. How can one do it without a yougurt maker? I don't want to spend too much money just to try.
You can use a glass jar and keep it covered with a cloth somewhere warm, it will take longer at room temperature, but the yogurt should be ready in 24 hours.
@@HealthOrigins oh thank you. I have plenty of time. ❤️

Great if you don't mind the texture of fiber from the oats in your yogurt 🙂👍
Great! Thanks. How long can you keep it?
It should last for 3-5 days in the fridge. You're very welcome! 🙂
What if you make oat milk from oat flour?
I don't think it would work as it would get too slimy, you would not be able to sieve it.
Benefit?
Cheaper, you know exactly what's in it and has the probiotics for your gut 🙂
Good information!
Thank you!
