Enjoy your videos. One question -- are you vectoring a mask and then paint the glass? That's what it looked like to me. Not sure about $3000 a day. Maybe theoretically possible but not very practical, unless you get a large order of the same image.

im interested in getting a laser but I agree it needs to be industrial grade. What is the cost of that 100 watt that you have? At my job we have a 6000 watt but I believe the cost was up around $900,000 and by the time they added the rack system loaders it was nearly $1.4million But it has capability of cutting 2" thick parts

@@sorinmiliescu That's definitely why i'm here. Looking to buy a laser or garnet cutter, but they're expensive, and anything to offset that cost would be interesting. But of course like most machinery, they're priced not to what they cost to make, but what they cost to you. Which is usually some % of your business. Usually over 100% for a single machine, because a dude with a single machine isn't running a business.

As someone who has run a business your $3,000 a day is just wrong.
Yes small business owners work 10+ hours a day but it breaks down to
    30% actual paying work
30% advertising and drumming up new business
40% business work (accounts payable, account receivable, ordering parts, taxes, etc, etc)
So on a 10 hr day you are really looking at 3 hours of actual paying work or closer to $900 a day. Dont get me wrong, that is still $234,000 a year gross which is not a bad income.
It is not $3,000 a day!

I run a business or two... You MUST account for: sales, marketing (they are separate things), research, customer service, cleaning, accounting, quoting, packaging + delivery among many other things. Perhaps you could hire a technician to run the laser while you did the rest of those jobs.
Not trying to discourage anyone, but running a business has many many non-billable hours so to say you can just cut boards for 8-10 hours a day is completely unrealistic in my opinion.

He stressed that with the proper work as well as that it won't happen ever day, that it is possible. If you were cutting custom pieces daily, yes it's possible to achieve that and more. Likelihood? Not very likely. But like all business sacrifice, good judgment, and wherewithal is important. 10 to 15k a month isn't unreasonable though and in most cases is enough to to pay rent equipment upkeep and marketing

Over 20 years of experience with 2KW/4KW Lasers I highly doubt people are paying 3k$ a day for something we would do for 300-400$ for each at the cheapest prices around. Great video nonetheless. Confused though as to why your nozzle is so far off the material surface and you're still having reflections (Power is too high, standoff is too high and your feedrate is too slow). Interesting video either way, love the lasers!

He states in the video that a shop similar to his would rate that as a 2 hour job and charge $150 per hour plus materials, so you're in the same ballpark. The $3000 figure is working all day long with no breaks.

Running a laser at 10 hours in one day straight isn't realistic, considering setting up the materials. Also it wasn't clear how much the cost of the machine and the consumeables figure into it and how to market this stuff. I think what he has in mind isn't "laser for hire" but rather selling particular artwork at a higher price point.

I was well into the video, before I realized you were to cut recycled forest carbohydrates. I was all amped up for steel ! I really like the manner in which you educate. Many tend to fast talk, or leave out steps, expecting everyone already knows each step well. My primary interest is in an engraving solution for on-the-fly work. So far, fiber laser approach seems to be more of a job-shop type of thing, so device can warm up. Cost per use would need to rival a rotary engraver, and in order to not lose sharp results, a motion table to bring the work to the laser. There are a couple self-contained products of the sort from Red-T, but they are still in the embryonic stage. I fear this stuff will shrink in form factor and become what I need post-retirement! For now, I am stuck at office, doing paperwork..... and I found your video as the result of viewing another laser that was recommended I check out. A nice way to kill some time during this shutdown, even though I am considered "essential".

@@rathernotdisclose8064 that's not really true in this case. Using vector files like he is makes it incredibly easy on his side to the point where he just has to teach x, y, and z and let her rip. No guess work, straight forward setup, and the customer gets exactly what they paid for since the vector file is their design thereby eliminating any programming errors on his behalf.
Also, his figures likely represent the gross earnings instead of net earnings which is a big difference once you figure for taxes, overhead, consumables and such. For example, my shop at my house as its own dedicated electrical service that is considered non-residential which is about 40% more per kw/h than the residential service at my house (6.5 cents per kw/h @ house and 10.x in the shop). IDK what his setup is like but the point is that you can start talking about serious money pretty quickly which takes a nice bite out of that $3k figure.
      Just some food for thought.

@@apersonontheinternet8006 Wtf are you even on about man? Neither of those paragraphs you just wrote are related to "amount of work orders received" which is what I was referring to in my comment. The man even said himself in the video that the way his machine is potentially capable of earning him 3k in a day is if he got 10 work hours out of it per day or something like that, which he then goes on to supplement with "provided you've got the work". I'm just saying it isn't likely that you get so many orders that you get to run that thing 10+ hours a day pumping out orders non stop.

@@rathernotdisclose8064 What do you mean it isn't "likely"? What the hell does that even mean? You know what "likely" (in the contents that you're using it) means? Without any effort or *just average* effort. You have to work *10 times as hard* otherwise you're right it isn't likely and will not exceed likely without obsessive dedication. If you believe you can make that kind of money a day you will make that kind of money a day. It doesn't just happen in a perfect world, there is no perfect world. However, it is some company's reality right this very moment.

    • @rathernotdisclose8064
      @rathernotdisclose8064 4 роки тому

@@lyteyearz5810 I mean it isn't likely because this kind of service doesn't seem likely to be needed NON-STOP, all day every day from one shop. Maybe if you're the only one around within a vast distance that offers this service in a very densely populated area, but that sounds unlikely too. Wanting it badly doesn't really change whether or not the work comes in. He is performing work for people that requested it, so he can't just "work 10x harder" to earn 10x more if he feels like it. People have to put in the orders for your machine to be making you money. For you to get THAT many orders that you are just running your machine 10 hours a day seems very unlikely to me. That is what I mean by not likely. Even if you could cite examples of this happening, I'd argue that it isn't the norm, which means it is uncommon, which means it being "not likely" still applies.

If I send you a jpeg via email can you send me a vector back in email? How much will this cost me? I've been trying to have a flag made with my family Crest and the flag company needs a vector image but can't do the conversion....

@@rogerwebb9600 I might be missing something, but creating dxf vector files is something I've done in InkScape. It's free for both Windows and Linux and possibly other platforms. There are tutorials available on UA-cam that show you how to use it.

Mr Roger, I've been watching your videos recently, and I would love to have the opportunity to get in touch with you. I want to buy a laser machine for cutting foam and any non metal material. and I would love to have the chance for a quick call and see if you could guide me trough some good tips or any advice regarding the type of machine i could get. Do you think is this possible?
Look forward to hear from you, and thanks in advance!

You need to see all my videos on CNC router, milling and lasers. As well as ArtCAM, Carveco, Mach3 and laser cut 6.1 you will need to master all of this, so download the programs and see how you get on before you relay start to spend big $$$. To start a CNC business you will need USD$ 50,000+ you cannot depend on just a laser to be successful.

Hey Roger, thank you so much for this video. .. I have been working with a lasercutter for some time now (free access to one via a hackerspace, only have to pay for materials)..
Question: One thing I dont seem to understand is what if you want to go bigger than the 600x300 space of the laser. How do you cut up the objects? Do I need to design it that way in the design software or is there some support in the laser engraver driver.

    • @rogerwebb9600
