This is awesome, I am going to try something similar to this with a k24z after I get everything working and running correctly. I cant use a factory style turbo since they never came with one, but the single exhaust port will simplify things for me and I am going to try and use a smaller sized turbo when the time comes.
@@VTECAcademy EDIT: sorry if this felt like a hassle to answer, nevermind though, i got an answer from a company from the USA who gave some tips and might be able to even put the work in. Thanks anyway, keep up the fun channel! I may have jumped the gun a bit in my enthusiasm by asking if they ever were for sale, I'm not sure if i can make a manual transmission work (yet); I am trying to obtain a Duck Clutch system with Throttle ring and Hand Break, so i can control a manual car without the usage of my legs (I'm a paraplegic) The company from UK replied they cannot reach the supplier from AUS, i tried contacting them myself (a few weeks ago) and so far indeed still no response. If i cannot get a system like that, I'm afraid i am forced to stick to an automatic transmission. Do you happen to have any knowledge related to K-swaps with automatic transmission? If this is at all possible. In case it is not, maybe a better option to go for a different block, like; B18C, H22A or F20B, if one of those would be doable instead that is, I mean I'm not stuck on the K series per se, i also do not plan to turbo it, K24 just seemed very nice stock. If i would not buy a "done" swap; preferably the target chassis would be a 4 door Civic EG, since i could suicide door the passenger side, to put my wheelchair in the back. A 2/3 door chassis would not be impossible, just a bit more hassle, i would need to put my wheelchair on the passenger seat, and need to remove the wheels each time i get in. I owned a 88-91 CRX for 4 years, after i sold it i found a very nice first owner 88-91Civic , with only some chassis rust. Back then i had plans with that, but then i got into an accident at work, broke my back and was forced to sell the car. I would love to get back into driving a Honda but I can find very little information on the subject, my search lead me to find your channel. Since the automatic transmission part is not a very common thing to do, any advice on the matter would be highly appreciated!
Love the K23! During tuning were you able to ensure the variable flow turbine flap was fully opening? Not sure if this parameter would even be turned on in the non RDX HonData tune you started with? Just want to make sure you're fully utilizing that fancy dual scroll.
Ive been curious about using an Accord 5 speed trans in a turbo setup. The gearing is closer to what turbo should have and it is my belief that the Accord transmission case is stronger than rsx/ep3 style.
Woohoo! We've been waiting so long for this to come back. Congrats on the numbers and getting this thing going! What was the boost pressure curve like throughout the pull? What ended up being the limit at Xact on the dyno?? Stock wastegate I'm guessing was the limiting factor (spiked to around 18 and fell to 11-12 by redline)? Also I'm almost certain I predicted 260-265 whp on pump gas in the comments section of the first or second video on this project, what did I win?🤣😂
I'm sure with an external WG or a 2-port actuator they could make a lot more HP. With boost control of the Kpro with boost by gear and boost by rpm, it would also help considerably on the street.
Nice!!! You guys wanna rebuild my 2008 Acura rdx? Lol jk. I just bought it and the engine is blown, it has coolant in the oil. I just sourced another K23 with 70K miles and right now getting all the accessories together ie alternator, ac compressor, starter. We will see if i also track down another trans too.
A proper k swap eg could beat this lol. All they had to do was get a k24a or k24a2 with 3 lobe cams, type s oil pump fbo. Or go k frank k24 long block with niether k20a/z3/z1/a2 head. (These are all k20 head with real "vtec"). You would see similar gains to the 235-250 hp.
I also have a white 95 eg ,I'm working on j series AWD SWAP Could you imagine having him as your Boss just hanging out coming up with different Honda Frankenstein builds. Thats a dream job!
Damn my 7th gen k swap does better times in the 1/8. My friend tuned my car well. I’m sure you can squeeze more power out of that for sure compared to my NA K20
The 1/8th mile times are just for comparison sake among the projects we have. If we were going for out best times possible we would have decent tires and hit the track instead of a random dusty street. The K series really wakes up the 7th gen Civic. Our K24 swapped was fun, great street car. Too bad it was totaled before we could started doing 1/8th mile runs.
Make a big man Honda! Like Vince's maxima but with VTEC. Like 94 97 accord with a H22, you could call it the Postlude. Like the Preludes worked and now you have a few kids...
Do you guys want to do an episode on subframe swapping an em1 and then reinstalling the k20a/6speed LSD in the correct position? I have all the parts for the subframe swap except the new engine and trans brackets for the eg subframe… which I need from you guys. Everything mount wise is Hasport including the post mount and the axles. Currently the car has a jdm cl7 euro r k20a, 6 speed trans, hasport mounts and a kpro v4 and everything ktuned includes in their stg 4 swap package. It’s in the car now and runs great, I just need to do the subframe for more ground clearance and better axle angles. I have had all the brand new suspension… all the control arms, coilovers, braces , end links, trac bar, etc… waiting under my bed 😅. Help a fellow Honda brother out! Edit: I am also local, my friend and I work out of his shop in Avondale 😉
Success! I finally remembered to skip through the intro, so as not to hear "you're about to get schooled". I love your videos, but that intro makes me cringe every time.
The K23 baselined at 210hp and 243tq and made 237hp and 268tq tuned. (www.motortrend.com/how-to/turp-0811-acura-rdx-k23a1-hondata-reflash/) So 245hp and 248tq on just 2 liters is not bad, but there's more to learn about it for sure.
@@VTECAcademy i go by the simple fact that you have a power drop in mid range. That small turbo will work in a complete diferent way when compared to big turbo builds. I would expect a curve similar to the ones found in golf gtis. Strong mid range and huge power drop in high rpms due to turbo size. Like you said there is a lot to be known, vtc angles must be way off the usuall values. Would love to see that pushed a bit further
V-tec Academy, definitely deserves more subscribers and to be a bigger chanel.
Budget eg is coming together. Good job VTEC academy.
Thanks for watching!
That promotional balloon is also a great example of what a turbo car enthusiasts soul does when we hear the symphony of a boosted car.
Ahaha! Exactly!
What a glorious connector heap. I'm at maybe 10% of that.
The blow off valve guy 😂😂
Great vid! 😅
That K definitly has more potential in it. Id say it would still be safe at the 300whp range. Problem would still be traction though
Tires would help BIG TIME

Single port exhaust is the hack people sleep on.
Such a nice channel you got here, deserve way more subs! Also wondering; do you ever sell your builds?
We haven’t yet, but our K24 Fit may be soon.

You adjust the springs in a bov based on what vacuum your engine produces.
I wanna see this motor in a Base RSX, with the added weight and longer gearing it might be enough to stop wheelspin and still pull on a Type S
Oh, for sure it would pull on a RSX Type S. That torque is a game changer.

What up Scott! Man, @VTEC Academy if you all can help commercialize this to off the shelf parts I would totally be on the hunt for K23 turbo swap!!
@2:49 Who's ZF1 is in the background?
Let's go! When's the next track day with this thing?
So sick!
Wonder what it would take to get this to 300, k24 block might get it a bit closer. Or help fill out the tq band

We need more content on your k swap in the Crv rd1
J35 swap will embarress that K23T. How is it under a grand when a tune alone is around 500?
Yep, falls completely on its face too. 😅

I volunteer my car as the next build 🫡.

Is there a recap of the parts used on this build written or other?
Dope!
How much horsepower did the car make?
Let's goooooooo!!
NICE!!! What was the final HP number?
245hp at the wheels.
🙌
Wait so is it using premium or e85 in this tune? You said premium in the last vid but talked about the ethanol sensor here
Ethanol is coming.
Greetings!
I say add a traction bar to the front
So would a a2 head be better for boost on a stock a3 block? Or this route?
A2 100%
J series all-wheel drive EG hatch?
It’s tough to find those transmissions.
Ktuner works great if the tuner knows how to use it.
Would this swap be worth it in an ep3?
The turbo interferes with the steering rack.
What was the numbers? 242hp?
248hp at 6221rpm and 245lbft at 3166rpm

Can anyone explain to me how its a k23 now? I thought there was k20 and k24...
It’s still a K20. It just happens to have a K23 head on it. The K23 came in the Acura RDX.

Yeah not sure where donut spent 50k on. Some manager probably went and got a type R with the money.
Different eg
@@BMXsXeCRX No shit Sherlock.
248 hp / 248tq

3rd times a charm because if you don't get it by the 3rd time, you should give up lol jk
