This was the first crochet video I watched of yours many years ago. Thank you Melanie for helping to teaching me something that has brought me such joy and served as a stress relief for me. I am haply you are no longer in pain and am praying for your family. Fly high sweet girl.
Dear Melanie, just made your infinity scarf. Thank you for teaching me in this virtual world to crochet throughout the last two years of pandemic. Your legacy will be one of infinity. I wish your family strength and hope, peace and love ongoing.....now onto your berry blanket. 🙏🌻🕊
I love this scarf! As she says it’s so customizable and looks terrific wrapped 3 times! It’s so nice to see her subscriber count steadily going up! 1 million here we come!!❤️❤️
I just want to start by saying thank you! This is only the second crochet video I have been able to successfully follow. Most "beginner" videos go a million miles an jour hut I was able to keep up with you.
I have learned how to crochet multiple items by watching your videos! You do a great job at making this an accessible craft for anyone interested! Thank you for taking the time to post these videos for the rest of us to learn!
Making th;is scarf finally. I'm a big man and am 6'2'' tall. I made my foundation chaing super l ong, as it goes past my knees. I am able to twist it iinto 3 times around my head. Big People need Big Clothes!
I made one with almost the same colour and I actually twisted the chain! I completely forgot to check beforehand but in the end it turned out ok. 😅 Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Alice Jamir nice! yes even if it twists it works fine ;) Here is a little video I made and put on my facebook page that explains it some more, it's a common question facebook.com/video.php?v=944125218948548&set=vb.413911091969966&type=2&theater
Thank you for the great tutorial. I have actually made four infinity scarves as a result of your lesson. However, three of the four have come out twisted and I cannot figure out what I did differently in the one that came out correctly. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks...Lee Anne
What you can do is make a scarf the traditional way then connect it later. I find that works best for me. I don't that that tension problem where one side is tighter than the other. Plus, mine always use to come out twisted no matter how hard I try. I just can't get the infinity scarf connection. I just gave up! LOL
Here's her video on her facebook page about preventing the twist... I hope this helps. :)) facebook.com/video.php?v=944125218948548&set=vb.413911091969966&type=2&theater
cretnotonic The lady's way seems easy and precise but I never thought to do it the way you suggested. I might do it that way. That actually sounds like a good idea. Thanks!
I'm a self taught crocheter who is still very new. I just made my first infinity scarf following your instructions to a T. Thank you so much for this tutorial
Exactly! This video would have been awesome if she clarified some information. I felt like she rushed through this project making it harder for everyone who is watching uncertain. I asked her a question up above and she never responded ;,(
I've taught myself the single, double, half double and triple stitches by watching videos here on youtube. I've not really made any projects except for a small 'blankie' for my dog. You're videos are so easy to follow and understand, and by using the stitches I already know, I can actually create something besides table runners or coasters LOL I know this is an old video, but I really like the project, and you explain it so well. Thank you for the wonderful videos and inspiration! Hope to see a lot more in the future!
I have watched literally 30 videos because I want to crochet a scarf and headband for Christmas gifts and this is the first one that I actually understand! Thank you so much!!
I like your teaching techniques!!! I have been able to make two easy scarves with no problem and still be looking for you to teach me my third. One scarf I have made three times for Christmas gifts and excited to see if the recipients like them as much as I do. Thank you for all your help...you make it easy to pick up and go!!!
Just started my first scarf. So excited to see how it turns out! I have been making an easy scarf that I do have to sew together to make into an infinity but this looks so much easier!!!
I love this tutorial. I've made three of these bad boys and they're so comfy! They also make great gifts :D I'm giving one to my stepmother as a wedding present in a couple of weeks - she adores scarves. Thanks for this :D
This is the second "easy" or "beginners" crochet video that just assumes that we know how to start a row or goes to fast :S Forgive me but that is not "beginner" some of us are new to this, it can't hurt to go over the basics. I really don't want to have to search through all your other videos to find where you explain :S
Alana Laverty The Crochet Crowd has lessons for beginners. I watched Lessons 1-8 (they cover all the basic stitches) and each one was well explained and quick.
She does assume that you have some basic stitch knowledge. I always recommend watching her video all the way through once before beginning the project. You can always pause and catch up.
I've been learning a lot via "Jayda in stiches" -she goes at a easy to keep up w pace, explains as she goes along & also has written patterns. You can pause/replay if need be. I've made several of her patterns.
I have been an on and off crocheter for about 4 years now. I end up starting projects and never finishing them because of crochet language and having a difficult time following along and eventually giving up..Until I found Melanie Ham's tutorial videos. Since than I have now completed two blankets and starting my Christmas gifts; infinity scarves. I am obsessed with making them as they are so easy. Thank you for your great videos they have really been a huge help. PS.. also my husband thanks you now that I have a crochet addiction he doesn't have to worry about me getting bored while he plays video games ;)
You can use two strands of cheaper regular yarn and work them together in place of more expensive bulky yarn. I've done this several times and it works out really well.
I do this too. The only thing is that the bulky yarn is stretchy. I love that! When I combine two yarns together.... I love it, but it is so hard and not stretchy.
You are the best! I've watched about every video on you tube trying to learn to crochet! I came across this one so I watched your video on chain and now I'm making this scarf! I didn't have the large needle so I'm using super bulky yarn and a 9mm but so far it's coming out ok! Thank you so much!!!
Hi! I think you are a very kind and lovely person but in some of your vídeos I can't undetstand you very well as you talk too fast, specially when saying numbers. That happened to me following the instructions for the slightly slouche hat. I had to make many pauses and rewind a lot of times. I'm good following instrucciones and in this case I had the hope the results would be OK, but finally I got the wrong ones. This is the first time this hsppens to mr. I didn't leave this comment there as I tried but it was impossible to write it, probably thecnical problems. So, I did have to undo the hat when it was really advanced as the shape did not appeared like yours. I'm sorry if this bothers you, but it is for the convenience of probably more people like me. Regards.
+Fanny Moreno did you download the written instructions? I always include links to the written instructions in the description box so that you have all of the numbers right there. Even still, that is the nature of these tutorials, sometimes rewinding and watching things again is what makes it great, you have access whenever you need it!
I am SO grateful for your tutorials! I watched my wella (grandmother- spanish short for abuela) crochet my whole life. she and I were very close. she tried to teach me once but teaching wasnt her forte, lol. after she dies all I wanted was to crochet and didnt know how. I stumbled upon some of your videos and I have made so many projects now, and a few I was able to figure out on my own! thank you for giving me a piece of the woman I admired and loved with my everything back! ps I am definately making this scarf today!
Thank you so much for your help in my successfully completing an infinity scarf for my daughter. Although my timeline of 5 hours was off from yours, everything else in your video was bang on. She loves it and I thoroughly enjoyed making it. Thanx again.
I could not learn to crochet anything for the life of me, until I watched your videos! I just finished this scarf and also made another scarf from a video of yours as well as the baby blanket! You are awesome! Thanks so much for the great tutorials. :)
Thank you for all u did for us Melanie! U r an angel now! Watch over your family! U were a beautiful woman in and out with a heartwarming smile always! 😘
I haven't crocheted in over a year, and your channel has gotten me really excited about picking it up again. I made this scarf today and it turned out GREAT!! I look forward to learning more and making more cute things with your help... Thanks Melanie!
Awesome. I have never crochet before. I bought everything I needed and made my first own scarf. It's not perfect but I love it. I'm so proud. Thank u. Now I want to make one for my little daughter. :)
HI Melanie, Very nice scarf, please keep your crochet project videos coming. I started crocheting this past January and I am loving it, it is so relaxing & fulfilling. I enjoyed your double crochet blanket video also, I am still practicing on that stitch with 2-double crochets in the same stitch. Thanks for sharing.
Up until recently, I had only known how to knit but these infinity scarves made me really want to learn how to crochet. I can't express how happy I am that I found your video. I've made about 10 scarves, mostly as gifts, and just love them. They're so fast to make and look great. Can't wait to learn more things from you.
Before watching your videos I was so scared to do any of these projects I thought written instructions where so confusing! But from a few videos you've helped me so much thank you!!!!!
Thank you so much for the video tutorial. I'm a beginner crocheter, but was able to follow your video & make 2 scarfs as Christmas gifts. I started last night & completed 1, and started the 2nd which I finished this morning. As a beginner it took me more like 4hours to complete each scarf. They both turned out great, but the first one has a couple twists in it (more character! Lol). I didn't realize til I was already in 2nd row & didnt want to take apart & fix. Lookimg forward to trying more of your videos!! THANKS AGAIN
I just finished this project and I must say it turned out awesome! This is my second project I've done using your tutorials. I'm a beginner and you've been so helpful! Thank you!
I am making this right now. I was intimidated originally but I am really enjoying it! I made a single stitch infinity scarf recently, and i do like it. But it's not laying right. It was my very first project ever and I used my fingers. This will be my first project with a hook! I am noticing definite tension issues but I've got too far and I'm just gonna deal. My work isn't going to be perfect!!!! Thanks a lot for your videos and tutorials.
Thanks for the great tutorial! Years ago, the ruffle scarf was all the rage and I made tons of them as office gifts! This will be my new project. I will add buttons to customize as I have seen in designer shops. Thanks again!
Just made my infinity scarf! I used Crafters Secret pearl fleck. Double stitch. I am forever a fan. Thanks for all the great tips and learning tutorials!
Melanie Thank you for this infinity scarf. I began purchasing cloth scarf last year and I now work in a name brand department store where the crochet scarves are going for over $50 and they do not look as good as yours. I am now finishing up my own infinity following your pattern to match my blue nails. It is just a little darker blue. I will teach this to my girl scout troop. You are fabulous!!!!! Keep it up.
Just watched your video. I have had hand issues for years and now that I am better am looking to get back into crochet. Thank you for such a well done video and simple pattern. I am looking forward to trying it in time to make my daughter one for Christmas! :)
I'm so glad I found this... I'm starting this one today as my very first crochet project! You explained everything perfectly and went through slow enough for a newbie like me. Thanks!
made this in one day it was my first thing to ever crochet. I used a much smaller yarn though. It turned out amazing! The only thing I would have changed was not so long as I am only 5'1. Thank you so much for this video!
Loved the scarf! You made it simple and easy to understand. I have just started crocheting, have taught myself the basic stitches and it was nice to finally make a project rather that a "hot pad!"
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I watched several videos and attempted to follow along to no avail. I am so glad I found yours'. It has made it easier for me to start and learn new techniques!
I know this video is older, but just started crocheting a couple months ago and made this today. It turned out great, used Hobby Lobby I love this yarn in Autumn and a 10mm hook...loved it!
Thank you SO MUCH for this! I just began crocheting, and have been teaching myself online. This is the first thing I've done after learning the basics, and it is so simple.
I love your videos!! I'm working on this scarf right now. I'm a beginner and this is my first project and your video was so easy to follow :-) can't wait to do more projects using your tutorials.
I'm brand new to crocheting, and my infinity scarf turned out perfect! Thank you for posting and I have subscribed to your channel for future projects!
Thank you for this tutorial! Your directions were very easy to follow! I just finished mine in purples. It's a Christmas gift for my niece, she will love it 🙃
I loved your video and just wanted to say thank you! I have made scarves for my 3 sisters & myself of course :) My sisters absolutely loved them!!! I just watched your video for the color block throw and can't wait to make it.
Thank you so much for showing how to make this beautiful and easy infinity scarf, I made one it was so easy , fast and came out very beautiful, I used a lighter yarn and big hook came out beautiful.
My mom tried to teach me how to crochet and I never could understand it. This video was so easy to understand. I am so addicted to crocheting. Next is the beanie with a flower on it. thank you do much for making these videos.
I'm making one for my niece with size 4 and really getting frustrated with the twisting...I saw an earlier post n decided to sew the ends together. Thanks for teaching me how to make the infinity scarf and thank all of you for asking questions that answered mine as well :)
Thanks for your video! This was my first project. It took me much longer than 2 hours since I am a such a newbie! I love how it came out and I am looking forward to my next project!
Thank you! There is usually a set that they sell at craft stores that has 3-4 medium size hooks. I would get that and then buy individual hooks for specific projects you want to try. The hooks are only a few dollars each, so really easy to get started!
OH WOW! I'm new to crocheting and LOVE IT! Thank you so much for this tutorial! Even I Can make this!! And my youngest daughter-in-law will get one for Christmas - she loves the infinity scarf anyway! Can't wait to see your other tutorials! Thanks again!!
Melanie, thank you for the video I haven't crochet in years and this is a great refresher...I made the scarf in about two hours and I used an L crochet hook and I think it looks great I will take a picture...thanks!
I have made 3 infinity scarf this week. But two of the them got twisted. By the time I realized it it was to late! So annoying!!! My projects are always interrupted by my little ones. Us mommies are always multitasking. ;) When you measure your desire length , do you measure the chain straight or as a circle?
Just made this scarf and it was easy and completed while watching 2 episodes of Blacklist!!! lol. It is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!! I used a P hook and the scarf is perfect.
Hi Melanie, I love this Scarf, I am making it in a Red Chunky and using a ^.5 hook as Label stated, I have made it super ;long in cast on over 200 stitches as I understood you to say 72 1nches not 72 stitches, as that would not be very long. I am making these as gift for Christmas, thank you for this tutorial, and I have subscribed. love the way you teach. and if I miss something, I pause an go back. no probs, :)
Wonderful project Melanie!! Very easy for beginners like me:) Using the super bulky size 6 is nice and thick and it doesn't twist as much. I found to keep it from twisting when your finished with your foundation chain stretch your work slightly, it really helped so it didn't twist.
Thank you so much for posting this! I've been looking for an easy and simple way to crochet an infinity scarf. Also, thank you for posting the simple hat tutorial! I've been using it for months and have made so many fun hats for friends :)
Wow thank you so much for this pattern I just learned how to crochet and it was such a easy pattern for my first project! I made it for a friend for her biryhday and she absolutely loved it!
This was the first crochet video I watched of yours many years ago. Thank you Melanie for helping to teaching me something that has brought me such joy and served as a stress relief for me. I am haply you are no longer in pain and am praying for your family. Fly high sweet girl.
Me too…taught me crochet, after stopping crocheting 20 years before
Dear Melanie, just made your infinity scarf. Thank you for teaching me in this virtual world to crochet throughout the last two years of pandemic. Your legacy will be one of infinity. I wish your family strength and hope, peace and love ongoing.....now onto your berry blanket. 🙏🌻🕊
I just learned how to crochet less than a week ago. This infinity scarf is officially my first project!
Maranatha!
I love this scarf! As she says it’s so customizable and looks terrific wrapped 3 times! It’s so nice to see her subscriber count steadily going up! 1 million here we come!!❤️❤️
I was inspired to return to my first craft at 5 years old with this tutorial. I made this for my mother. Thanks!
Thank you Melanie for all of the joy and love you put into everything you did. To your family we love and pray for you!
This account is my favorite crochet tutorial account to follow! Thanks for the tips!
I just want to start by saying thank you! This is only the second crochet video I have been able to successfully follow. Most "beginner" videos go a million miles an jour hut I was able to keep up with you.
Excellent! Thank You! I have made three. They are going to make great gifts.
I have learned how to crochet multiple items by watching your videos! You do a great job at making this an accessible craft for anyone interested! Thank you for taking the time to post these videos for the rest of us to learn!
okay mine did not turn out like this 😂 my stitches were way too tight but still not bad for my first try. your video was very helpful
+ashleysings14 haha well now you have some more experience for your next project! You got this!
ashleysings14 I bet it's still cute
ashleysings14 how did you go to the second row of hdc?
i just stitched it right into the top of the first row, i had to google some things for more detail
I used your tutorial and for the first time in a year I finished a project. I have made a scarf for my daughter and another friend. Thanks!
Making th;is scarf finally. I'm a big man and am 6'2'' tall. I made my foundation chaing super l ong, as it goes past my knees. I am able to twist it iinto 3 times around my head. Big People need Big Clothes!
I'm a beginner and followed your video .... my mother in law and cousin love their new scarves !!! Thanks Melanie !!!!
Dee12984 woohoo nice job!

Sabrina Stovall You totally CAN!!! Happy Stitching!
Sabrina Stoval
I made one with almost the same colour and I actually twisted the chain! I completely forgot to check beforehand but in the end it turned out ok. 😅
Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Alice Jamir nice! yes even if it twists it works fine ;) Here is a little video I made and put on my facebook page that explains it some more, it's a common question facebook.com/video.php?v=944125218948548&set=vb.413911091969966&type=2&theater
+Melanie Ham Thank you! seen it already and liked it too! 😊 Pretty helpful!
Thank you for the great tutorial. I have actually made four infinity scarves as a result of your lesson. However, three of the four have come out twisted and I cannot figure out what I did differently in the one that came out correctly. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks...Lee Anne
James Jedamski the twist happens when you first connect the foundation chain...
mine did too. pretty sure its supposed to be like that
What you can do is make a scarf the traditional way then connect it later. I find that works best for me. I don't that that tension problem where one side is tighter than the other. Plus, mine always use to come out twisted no matter how hard I try. I just can't get the infinity scarf connection. I just gave up! LOL

I'm a self taught crocheter who is still very new. I just made my first infinity scarf following your instructions to a T. Thank you so much for this tutorial
How many chains did you use for the base? Instead of going off inches, I've always done "chains".
Exactly! This video would have been awesome if she clarified some information. I felt like she rushed through this project making it harder for everyone who is watching uncertain. I asked her a question up above and she never responded ;,(

+Lisa M. Altemose Thank you for the kind words, happy stitching!
Im going to make this for my girlfriend!
up vote please! :D
+TomasuHachi That is very sweet!
cool for you. Hope she likes it.
I have watched literally 30 videos because I want to crochet a scarf and headband for Christmas gifts and this is the first one that I actually understand! Thank you so much!!
Shelby Shelton I'm so glad! Happy Stitching!
Do you have any tips for how to crochet loosely? I have a difficult time because I always crochet too tightly
Try using a large hook.
Also, larger hook means larger yarn.
Totally have to make this for my girlfriend for Christmas.
Xxx a hyyga ay aagay ay gv
Just started my first scarf. So excited to see how it turns out! I have been making an easy scarf that I do have to sew together to make into an infinity but this looks so much easier!!!
every I I try to make The chain it keeps twisting and I have a hard time.
kaitlin blaner. Just happenened to me but didnt noticed it until I was about to begin the third round. Will have to redo all. 😥
I love this tutorial. I've made three of these bad boys and they're so comfy! They also make great gifts :D I'm giving one to my stepmother as a wedding present in a couple of weeks - she adores scarves. Thanks for this :D

It's not her fault you're lazy. Practice your stitches BEFORE you start a project.

Trying this with regular yarn because I'm broke and I can't afford bulky yarn
how did it go ?! :D
You can use two strands of cheaper regular yarn and work them together in place of more expensive bulky yarn. I've done this several times and it works out really well.
Bulky yarn doesn't cost any more than regular yarn so this makes no sense. Also, go to Michaels and get it on clearance and stock up. Problem solved.

Thanks for answering. Yes, I did, but just after I failed, is a lesson I learned.
You are fairly rude

Melanie Thank you for this infinity scarf. I began purchasing cloth scarf last year and I now work in a name brand department store where the crochet scarves are going for over $50 and they do not look as good as yours. I am now finishing up my own infinity following your pattern to match my blue nails. It is just a little darker blue. I will teach this to my girl scout troop. You are fabulous!!!!! Keep it up.
I have made a bunch of these for friends and co workers. They love them. Thanks so much for this great tutorial :)

First of all your adorable! I love your tutorials. It was very clear and easy! I am going to make t this scarf as Christmas gifts this year.
Awe thank you, that is sweet! I love handmade holiday gifts! Let me know how it goes!
I have made 3 infinity scarf this week. But two of the them got twisted. By the time I realized it it was to late! So annoying!!! My projects are always interrupted by my little ones. Us mommies are always multitasking. ;)
When you measure your desire length , do you measure the chain straight or as a circle?
Becky Emmanuel I measured the chain straight.
Thank you!
I love this scarf. This is definately on my list of scarfs to do and I appreciate you sharing this with us.
Thank you so much! This is my first scarf, and your video was wonderful. I now want to do more! Going to check out all of your videos!
Very easy to follow. My scarf turned out great! Thank you!
Wonderful project Melanie!! Very easy for beginners like me:)
Using the super bulky size 6 is nice and thick and it doesn't twist as much. I found to keep it from twisting when your finished with your foundation chain stretch your work slightly, it really helped so it didn't twist.
Pattann deGrasse oh good! did you see my little facebook video on it? facebook.com/video.php?v=944125218948548&set=vb.413911091969966&type=2&theater
