I tried a full skip chain on my 066 clone with a 24 inch bar, it's a bit slower than full house on that saw. Im not going to throw it out but it's my back up chain. Full skip is probably best when you have a 28 or 32 inch bar on a 70cc saw, if you have a shorter bar or a bigger saw full house is best.
Good vid James. I've never quite wrapped my headed around why I would want a skip chain? If I can't get the saw to pull a full comp chain for my given bar length then it's likely time for the saw to go down the road...
@@walkerscountrylife if you have 1/2 as many teeth aren't they doing twice the cutting so you'd have to sharpen them twice as often as a full comp chain? 🤔🤔
Morning James they are pretty close in times. I looked at the full skip chain and the pre-ground square chain and I am still thinking about it. I think Hexa does a pretty good job perhaps I should buy a square file and give it a go.
I checked out the chestnut yesterday, they're not that long but definitely worth milling! I'll let you know when I've got a mill frame!
Ah cool. Keen to see the milling frame!

Oh yeah, 100% full house is faster.. I'm just interested in the trade off on cut time Vs sharpening time 😂

Honestly I'm just all about 1/2 as many teeth to file 😂

Ooof what a great point!!
I love that 181. I think you can lean it out quite a bit more and it will really wake up. Cheers
I do too, it's a such a great saw. I'm going to block the governor and tune it 👍
@@walkerscountrylife nice. Will have to check it out. Cheers

They are really close. The 461 is definitely up on power but the chains close the gap.
I'll have a hexa test bed soon 😉
Did you get a good deal?@@walkerscountrylife
