Superb review! But no way, they repeated the Pyromancer... why would they do that?! Those that own Tomb of the Giants now have a repeated player character; wow, very classy SFG.
👍great remarks and coverage. i'm hoping but not holding my breath that they release encounter cards as a stand alone accessory. the quest board updates for the new revised sets are the highlights for me. I wonder if they will update the iron keep expansion after it's run through all prints.
So all the OG treasure cards remain the same? They just the added cards from expansions ? I’ve printed off the cards on 350 card stock and want to make sure I have the treasure deck setup right when I play
In my opinion, buying of this core set while you already had almost the same experience in the original box - is not essential. What is more, original provided you few more additional encounters and bosses to face on.
So what you think - if i got the OG + all the expensions ( didtn played them all yet ) except one of the three newer core sets , which should i buy? Or is it possible to play those events without buying one of the new sets? Whole system is a bit confusing ... ty
Hi, i would still recommend buying one of the core sets. In your case I would get the painted world of ariamis as the enemies and the bosses are unique. Then you can use the campaign system of it to replay the og game and other expansions. Cheers!
May i suggest an ideia for a video? These new core sets have different rules and a lot of new equipment cards seem to have different effects or none at all now. For example the black leather armor now has no passive and the wolf ring was update. Would like to see a video of all cards that were changed this way. This would also help players that have the original game to use the new rules. I have been unable to find these updates comparisons online.
So this is what I did. I bought the Sunless City Core Set, and then went on Ebay and got the characters expansion to use the old character boards with cubes, and also bought the explorers expansion, it adds one extra boss and a behavior deck for the old dragonslayer which I can use ornstein character. The old expansions were very cheap.
Comparing the old core set with this new Sunless City set like this: Old game/New game Minis: 27/18 Dice: 15/15 Game boards: 9/4 Character boards: 4/3 (and the new ones are worse too) Cards and tokens: many/many (the important bits are above) Yes, there are some bits and pieces in the new game that weren't in the old one but there were literal metric fucktons of things in the old game that aren't in the new one. And the new one even costs more... The other two new core sets at least had new content in terms of enemies and bosses etc. This one is outrageously stupid.
I remember following the original boardgame when it came out, but I never ended up getting it. I recently started looking it up again, and that's when I learned that there are now multiple core sets, and that the original isn't really for sale anymore. Can all sets be combined with expansions, or other sets? I got a bit confused about learning that there are multiple sets, rather than making them expansions to the original base game
Hi, the new core sets can be combined with any mega boss expansion and will work with the the mini/main bosses of the darkroot, explorers and iron keep expansions. The encounter of those three expansions i just mentioned wont work though because of the new system, but you can adapt them. The three new core sets are also compatible with themselves (e.g you can do any combination of mini/mega boss you want). Cheers!
Tank you for the review. I really enjoy your dark souls videos! Sadly I just can't justify the price of these boxes in germany. Saw that you can get them for like 70 dollar in the U.S. but here you have to pay 100 euro... 😞
So just for clarification sake here: If I own the original core box set and Ariamis and TOTG -- do I REALLY need this one or perhaps try and print out the cards for Sunless City posted online and go with that? Or just don't bother at all and keep what I have and be content? Haha. Thanks for the review posting, btw.
@@TabletopDuo Yes, I watched that video which compared the first 2 new core sets, but was hoping for a recommendation between the new Sunless City and the Tomb of Giants. Particularly from the perspective of a newbie who will just be playing solo. Are the rules the same? Does one have better components and/or fewer typos? Thanks in advance and have a great day!
@@MichaelSmith-ze3ivI just picked up Sunless City this weekend for solo only play but haven’t jumped into gameplay yet-I’ve just punched all the tokens out and organized them. Since Sunless City is the latest set, I figured it’s the most refined and I haven’t heard of any typos yet

And they didn't fix the character sheets.. What a mess.. Nice one SFG.

Feels like a cash grab to me. Atleast Ariamis and TOTG were something that was not done before.

Some of them were updated to work with the new rules. I am trying to find a video showing all the cards that were changed.

Ive just purchased this core set and know i want to expand, which sets would be most beneficial? Characters? Or what should i buy next? 😊

@@mathog11 amazing thanks a lot.
i confused with core sets and exp
How to combine them and сan they be combined?
For exm
I have core set (tomb) exp (phantoms, Explorers, asylum demon)
I guess for a new player, i would buy this core set and then buy the Characters Expansion and use those characters boards.

Yea, the only important thing from new core set id say are new encounter cards, but lucky for us we can just print them
Are there news of new Dark souls bg content on the horizon?

I wouls just not buy the characters expansion as most of the characters have been spread among the core sets

Im new, wich one should i pick giant tomb or sunless city?
Hi, we’ve done a video about that. I hope it helps making the decision ua-cam.com/video/hNvZ2RNrxto/v-deo.html
