- Here are my initial thoughts of this knife set. I will be providing a follow up review in a couple of months. For now I like them bunches and would recommend them for anyone who wants a good set of knives for home or commercial kitchen.
Here is a link to their website:

Well... from the Steel perspective this is 420J2 Steel.
A Good steal would be 58 or 62 Rockwell.
In Germany we call this "Dosenblech" that roughly translates to crap/tin can metal.
You can buy those Kinds of Blades in any Supermarket at around 5€
Kamikoto are not commercial grade. They use the cheapest stainless steel available. It's the same steel found in the cheapest department store knives.
Lies
@@Clickbait86 The Steels are 420J2 and 3cr13 steel. Do your own research of their blade steel. They are not bad but they are at the cheapest end of the knife steels. Look at the many other comments here that say the same thing.
You can buy this type of knife in any Supermarket or department store for a few $.

@@Clickbait86 agreed, Kamikoto lies.
The church it up with a good heat treat. But yeah they do suck. They're not as good as anyone says. They're a little better than a department store knife depending on where you went I suppose. They're not total crap. I say the price is twice what they're worth. I use my belt knife for all food stuff so I don't even own kitchen knives lol
@@lastthen5838 they use super shitty quality 420j steel, it's absolutely terrible. For price, I suggest Mercer. They use CrMoV (chromaly) and come in at like 40 bucks a blade.
These knives are complete overpriced trash, made of the cheapest steel out there.
Google the steel they use and see.
Where’s that follow up review?! Have you been using the knives regularly? I’m curious as to how they’ve held up!
they use the cheapest stainless steel. They are not white or blue steel which is what the best japanese knives are made from . This with the incorporation of a hard steel edge in the best knives and differential heat treating gives the finest cutting. Kamikoto has been shown to be a hong kong company. The knives are just verage quality kitchen knives . The price for a knife like this would be around 30 dollars.
These should be renamed Scam-ikoto Knives they are cheap knives (made in china) in a box that costs more to make than the knives that come in it.
If you want garbage quality knives at a premium price - buy Scamikoto!
Every review that recommends these knives is on a kickback from Kamikoto.
Did you ever do the 30 day follow-up video?
Kamikoto knives are not made from japan and not made with japanese steel. Its all from China. They try to replicate a type of steel that the japanese use for knives, then make knives out of said steel then brand them as "japanese knives" since the steel its made from is supposed to be the same type of steel the japanese use. Its all deceptive marketing by chinese manufacturers.
Looking forward to your video after a month! Thanks!
Looking at these knives as well. Are you going to post a follow up soon?
They have the Authenticity Certificate so they can determine if the knives they sold you is not counterfeit.... They have a Data base for all knives sold...
I actually appreciate that they give you that certificate from the seller so you know you’re getting the real deal.
I took a shit the other day and used my typewriter to write a fancy Authenticity Certificate. You wanna buy it? ITS AUTHENTIC!
But seriously guys, Kamikoto can't even tell you what type of steel they use. How is it authentic???
@@jonathanschiller3129 Kamikoto knives are made from high quality steel from Honshu 本州, Japan - a steel with high corrosion resistance and durability. In the Kamikoto forge, steel is heated up to 1922°F for two hours and annealed at 392°F for two hours.. hope your shit is authentic..cause your full of it..
@@fgf674 A reply by Kamikoto when asked where their knives are made.

There you have it, made in Yanjiang China, even though they market themselves as a product of Japan.
On further research, I've traced Kamikoto down to a company in Hong Kong called Galton Voysey.
galtonvoysey.com/
It seems that they also produce apparel and electronics that disguise themselves as independent luxury brands.
www.consumerreports.org/consumerist/customer-accuses-dealdash-of-selling-cheap-generic-products-disguised-as-independent-luxury-brands/
So there you go, the company works on scamming through and through.
As someone who owns and now regrets their knives, DO NOT get Kamikoto. They are made with soft 420J2 steel which is good for show but will not hold an edge. I cut a jumbo carrot and a zucchini and looked at the knife edge afterwards because the cutting seemed to get very rough. The edge bent like it was made of tinfoil or I hadn't sharpened it after hard use for a year.
For Japanese knives, they used Chinese metal. Are the Chinese and Japanese on good terms these days? These are excellent knives if you like sharpening. Pull them out of the drawer and sharpen them again. They will work fine. Good thing that you will only have to sharpen one side. Enjoy.
#1 I think I speak for the world: no one wants to see the opening of the shipping box anymore.
#2 Taking a knife out of the box and cutting paper and a tomato is NOT a review.
I appreciate the effort you put into the vid buy the title is misleading and wasted my time.....even more so to write a comment
sorry-not-sorry
Gotta say I loved this review.
I was surprised to see that you aren't posting anymore. I felt you had a very nice camera presents and can make other videos doing basicly anything you'd like to. I hope all well and one day you give being a UA-camr another shot. I haven't read the comments but if they're negative it's not your fault these knives are a scam. They're making a killing off these knives even today.
*Good luck and God Bless.*
Thanks for the review, how are they now
Great review for what it is. But the truth about these knifes will only come out after a year or so of use. Basically any knife, even the cheapest out of the box, will have a very sharp edge. I wasn't able to find the follow up review which should be due about now.
Still waiting for that review
@@jesseback3536 There are a few other reviews of Kamikoto knives, but none to this particular video. Says a lot, that either there were not many sales, or there were and the knives did OK.
I think most people are not going to take the time to write a review good or bad which is unfortunate.
@@williac43 Shadiversity just did one recently titled "Are Kamikoto knifes a SCAM?"
The answer is essentially definitely yes.
Where is the follow-up video?
Forgot the followup? :)

How are they doing?
Will have a review in a week or two. Still like them, so far.
Good, will have a review shortly.
@@ugzbudblu ....right.....
aaaaaand, no followup. Fail.
Punanny jobes
You weren’t even holding it properly.
Kamikoto Claim that their knives are Top Quality. I have an alternative view and believe that the steel they use SUS420J2 is 50% Rice.
The company that promotes these knives also ownes and promote 'Established Titles' another Scam
