I drove a minicab in London in 80s for 16 years. Unlike today no gps / sat navs or even a pco disc etc.
After 5 years i knew London inside out. I respect black cab drivers and the knowledge they have to do but i am just glad i am out of the game completely.

Lots of angry,and disrespectful comments against London cabbies.Why , they are probably the only thing in this country that are the best in the world.. Traditional and worth maintaining.. Maybe the negative comments are from people who failed the knowledge...

Black cabs definitely are brilliant. It’s a shame that such a fantastic taxi service is accommodating the stupid London people who are sheep following each other. I wish we had black cabs in New York and if we did it would honestly be the best thing for us And Uber wouldn’t stand a chance here.
Taxi drivers may very well be the best across the whole of london, but us local delivery riders will beat any taxi hands down on our patch.

Waze app will get you there at reasonable eta. Knowledge is technology on this century . Black cabbies take people long way round to make higher rate . Specially tourist and people don’t know the area well . I experience it my self few time

I do not think you are smart enough to see the contradiction in what you are saying.
why. they make more money from getting more passengers. that's why they often don't take longer routes out to near the m25 unless prebooked. they want to get you out as quick as possible to get the next guy in. the meter even goes up while in traffic jams. yet they are the ones swearing the most about traffic.
