BEST VIDEO YET!!! The head to head comparisons and evaluations are great but this long term update and unbiased documentation of your time with this truck is awesome. Great job Andre.
Agreed
💯
Absolutely!!!! Been following these guys for YEARS!!!! unbiased!!!!! is the best!!! They say here is the data and videos and our thoughts, you make decision!! LOOL! Great job guys!!
You guys lifted it, different suspension, different exhaust, different intake, 2-in bigger knobby tires and your disappointed with losing 2 MPG of fuel economy?
Love your videos guys, I think you should be happy with the outcome after all of those changes.
8:13 it didn't have the lift and tires when they performed the fuel economy test. However, it's also hard to tell what the drive was like for them. If they were climbing a slight slope or not, as that would affect their overall results. 🤷🏻♂️
Agree. Bigger, heavier tires and wheels, they loaded it up with extra equipment and increased the wind resistance with the bar and lights too. All can decrease fuel economy.
I’m surprised they fixed that drive shaft under the warranty. They would have weaseled out of doing it for most owners, people who don’t have UA-cam channels.
It also depends on the dealership you go to… I’ve had small issues with some of my Chrysler products and at one point had to go through three dealerships but the third one was wonderful and took care of the problem without any bitching at all. The other two dealerships were ridiculous, And come to find out the problem I was having with the transmission was actually caused by the first dealership and the third dealership went to bat for me when I filed a claim with Chrysler themselves!
Nicholas Livoti for real! I had a terrible time with RAM when I had my 2018 big horn they tried to scam me so much when I had warranty claims. It’s literally the number one reason why I will never drive a RAM ever again. I traded my big horn for a Chevy trail boss and I’ve had zero issues with it and Chevy services.
Well to me that drive shaft should never have snapped. It's just a straight shot from the TC to the Diff, neither of which move on an IFS. The CV should have gone first, so that shaft giving out is very suspect to me of bad design or manufacture.
Yes...... offroad vehicle abuse is not usually covered. Especially with a lift and oversized tires. They could easily deny, and prove, that the damage was a result of the strain caused by suspension geometry and oversized tires the truck was not designed for .... lol....
Pretty sure the dealership knows these guys and don’t want a bad rap. But I agree with everyone , most dealers would say it’s cause it’s modified.
Dealership: you have 600k subs on UA-cam.... no prob we will fix anything under warranty
Dealership when I go in: you put bfg tires instead of goodyear tires warranty woun't cover it sorry.....
These long-term reviews are great! Thank you!
Dodge would never replace that driveshaft for an average Joe under warranty.
You could get it done with the right amount of bitching to the right place.
@@Mark-wq1nh True, but it would take a lot of bitching. It's a Dodge after all, not a Lexus.
That was my exact thought. Over sized tires, I'm sorry your warrantee in now void.
Replaced under warranty? Here's been my experience at Ram for warranty repairs. Dealer " Sir your transfer cases blown "...Me "OK I still have a lot of warranty left ". Dealer " Unfortunately that pine tree air freshener hanging from your re mirror Voids your warranty"
Yes they would
I remember when Andre used to only speak Russian.
Brad Hankin Andre the Russian mechanic
Brad Hankin I think he speaks a mild hybrid version of it :)
LOL!
I would like to know the first video he stopped not being the "Russian mechanic" with that awesome hat & went to this.
I was just thinking that !! Lol
You realize that increasing the tire size numerically lowered the overall effective gear ratio, possibly taking the engine out of "the sweet spot" for torque. Why don't you compare the mileage numbers from before and after the tire swap to see if there is any difference? Just a thought.
Mpg will always lower with bigger tires.. and if they do a lift. Even more so.. thats a given
12:53 you can see the rock get picked up by the front tire and wedged against the fender. That's what broke the drive shaft. The wheel could not turn at all but torque was still being sent to it. Something had to give. This really shouldn't have been a warranty claim, but good on you for getting that one past them.
I highly doubt your assumption. I feel that a stress fracture was the culprit.
It could have been the stress fracture was there and that's where it gave. But that rock definitely got jammed in there.
lol it totally was their fault. Also a weak driveshaft design.
@@JD-ys7fj I wouldn't say a weak driveshaft design. Driveshafts and cv-axles are designed intentionally to be weaker than the differentials and transfer case to preserve them. Would you rather be replacing a driveshaft/CV or those other much more expensive parts???
@@jardog16981 No, the Ujoints are the weakest link, and should ALWAYS fail before a driveshaft. A new ujoint is $20 and 30 minutes to install.
Love your reviews. You guys are the most honest reviewers I have ever watched/read.
As a former Mechanic at a Jeep (and other brand manufacturers) dealer I can tell you with those tires Chrysler would have made you pay for the driveshaft and probably voided your warranty. The only reason they did warranty the driveshaft is that they wouldn’t want to damage their relationship with TFL because of your reputation in reviews.
You impressed me when you told us the RAM fixed something under warranty.
“Oh my, it sounds like...a very, very distraught cow.”

Thats ok, toyotas crawl control sounds like 13 tiny elves are beating at all different parts of your truck with hammers.
Pretty sure that Toyota crawl control is made from broken washing machines

See us again at 4 and 5 year mark after you hit 100k.
Thanks for all your extensive information guys! Thanks to you guys I decided to make a move and purchase a 2021 Ram Rebel Night edition. I bought her in Florida vacationing and then drove her up north to NJ where I live. Flawless and super comfortable; tons of power we love our Ram Rebel!!
Fantastic long term update Andre!!!
The comments about the driveshaft breaking here are amazing. You have wheel spin and then sudden traction while under close to full throttle in 4lo. Yeah, that's how shit breaks boys.
I'm very lucky when I went out my first time my group made sure I learned that you shouldn't be gunning it like that to get over an obstacle. With my open difs it was hard but I'm glad I learned the proper driving methods now before my bad techniques screwed me over
Errhka makes all the difference 👍🏼
Yeah Roman gunned so it much he picked up a big rock and literally wedged it between the front tire and the fender well.
Must be an American car thing??? Because my manual 4x4 tacoma in 4lo i beat the shit out of and never in 300k+ miles did anything break..
Yes this is how stuffs break but what other full size truck have they broken the axel on ? On Cliffhanger 2.0

@Dustin Chappellok there.
Great real-world review! Keep up the videos-we truly enjoy them!
Thanks for the update and review.
21 thousand miles is not a long term review. My 2014 didn’t start falling apart until 42,000 miles. Along the way it had 6 recalls, it started ticking like a jackhammer, developed a vibration they never could figure out, broke exhaust manifold bolts, had issues with the cylinder deactivation solenoids, problems with the electronic steering because the idiots mount the control module underneath the thing where it gets wet, the back window and 3rd break light leaked, and a host of other more minor issues. I was soooooo happy when I rid myself of that thing at 62,000 miles! Never.... ever again!!
Back in 2014.... wasn't that during ww2??

No. But it was ( is ) in the Fiat timeline!
Good honest review
Was sweating it out until 13:50 ... just picked up my Rebel yesterday. Great video - thanks! 👍
This guy is my favorite truck reviewer
50k miles is usually when you find out what your vehicle is made of! It's all good until the warranty runs out!
122k miles on my 2014 Ram 4x4, runs just fine considering how hard a drive it everyday
Great video Andre. Glad the dealer replaced your wiring harness connector and axle shaft. Really wonder if the dealership would replace them if you didn't have a UA-cam channel. We have two dealerships in town. I would buy a Ram from one and not the other. I would recommend repairs and service at the other one. Glad we have a choice here in town.
One of TFLtruck's best videos to date! Great work guys. Although I know the mods were cool and fun, the majority of viewers and the market can't afford a new fairly-loaded Rebel + all those add-ons. I recommend using a less-optioned-out truck in the future as your long term truck and pick one mod that is in your opinions most needed by that truck for great all-around off-road experience, be it a lift, bigger tires, overhead LED lights, and whatever. Power mods are cool but not cost-effective at all... and the Hemi already sounds great on Ram 1500.
Nice of the dealership to replace the drive shaft being that you guys had much larger tires than stock. Its been fun seeing all the videos of it. Looking forward to seeing its replacement.
If they had not repaired the drive shaft under warranty would you still be happy you made the purchase?
NO
I'm most impressed by RAM replacing a driveshaft under warranty on a modified truck. Taking care of customers after they've paid isn't done by every company/dealership
Jason Quaile that’s because these guys have a huge UA-cam channel. Ram would look bad if they didn’t replace it

Very impressed that they replaced that driveshaft under warranty.
That's very shocking as rams warranty department is horrendous.
They probably played the youtube card..
They only honored the warranty bc they’d put it on the channel is they didn’t & make them look bad. For me & you we would’ve been shown the door.
@@elliottbran I agree, they probably initially said no to warrantying that but I'm sure TFL said oh well we will post it on UA-cam that you didn't fix the truck that we bashed to hell on purpose and tell everyone how horrible your product is. 100% what they did. Being rich and having a UA-cam channel gets you whatever you want anymore.
All warranty companies are difficult to deal with. They don’t make money if they do free work.

Excellent video. Finally, an honest real life review! Good to hear that Chrysler stands behind its products.
3:27 those wheels look very good on this truck. I agree with a lot of comments here about the warranty repair, if it wasn’t for your UA-cam platform presence, regular people would have been f&?$ed over by the Ram! The long term review is very valuable! Thank you!
So something many people don’t realize any time you increase tire size on a truck you add to the strain put into the drive train. The broken cv shaft is most likely the result of the 35” tires and the extreme off roaming it was going through at the time. But with that said it probably should be built heavier but by what I understand about 1/2ton trucks today the front axle is a weak link on all of them. So much so they don’t recommend putting snow plows on them. And the plows that they make for them are light duty and light weight.
Most, wait I think all 1/2 tons are IFS now, those suspensions are trash when it comes to actually using a truck as a truck, and for what they were doing in the episode where they blew that CV joint in that drive shaft isn't anything close to heavy offroading...that CV joint is trash, they need to put some HD shafts in that thing if they want to pretend its an offroad truck...but then again the automakers figure most people today buying trucks like this turn them into mall crawlers LOL.
Drive shaft covered under warranty because they didn't want bad publicity in a video.
Trailer pin connectors replaced under warranty because they didn't want bad publicity in a video.
Look at all the Wrangler owners with denied claims for being offroad.
Buddy of mine has same problem with his pin and they can never duplicate it.
My Ram has now been at the dealer 5 times in 3 months over coolant leaks. 4 from the same place. 🤦♂️
I've had many issues with my longhorn, but it still hasn't left me on the side of the road like my POS f150 did.
@@JohnDoe-nz6bk complete opposite for for me. My F150 was a rock star.
You need to go to a different dealer buddy… Some dealers are great and some dealers absolutely suck! It’s really amazing the difference between service departments because some care and some don’t

I like your video's, and you certainly put that truck through some tough citations, that I would not want to take my truck through! Thanks for putting this information out.
That was a stellar review. Very comprehensive.
So, the MPG test was done with a 2” lift kit, 35” tires and 1 mile oversea level. Just went down 2mpg, I don’t see were is the disappointment here.
Johnny Bliss you’re right, it seems stock when the MPG test was done. But still good MPG considering elevation. I used to live in Denver and I had JK sahara by then, the elevation plus the cold weather made the consumption dropped ~2MPG.
I have a 2020 rebel and just drove 500 miles highway in California and got 17.5 mpg too. Mostly flat down the 5
I think the 392 gears make a big difference too
According to the sticker, the 392's don't hurt it. But........I have 392 gears in my Big Horn and it has never hit the EPA estimate, unless I drive 45mph with a tail wind.I'm pretty sure the numbers are reflective of lower elevation and really clean high octane gas.
Mpg testing is done at sea level in laboratory conditions so there mileages were real world you almost never get advertised mileage in the real world even at sea level none of my vehicles do
I'm happy with my 2019 rebel so far I don't do anything like these guys do.Im waiting for the TRX to come out think I'll upgrade looks like a beast
@Rich Allen It's been given the "go ahead"!
@Rich Allen I believe in 2021.
my year old ram got returned to the dealership with a tailgate that never worked, a radio that didn't work periodically, and a brake system that made me jam the pedal into the firewall to start the truck despite too many dealership trips and too many recalls. also, much like yours, mine struggled to live up to the EPA numbers despite the low 55mph speed limit in my area
I have learned so much from your videos...and I am picking up my 2020 Rebel tomorrow (Friday the 13) and I just realized I am getting it from the same place you guys got yours, Johnson Auto Mart...crazy...thanks for all your videos!!
Hell I leveled my f.150 3.5 ecoboost and get 12.5 mpg so the rebel’s 17.5 is great to me haha
12.5 mpg, bummer!! My 2019 XLT Crew Cab 3.5 Ecoboost FX4 Max Tow ......I'm at 20.1mpg for a weekly average with mixed driving going back and forth to work. My best has been 23.4 on a 230 mile trip to the cabin. I couldn't be happier. Did you get anything close to 20 before you lifted it?
Depending on the year they have carbon build up issues that tanks the mpg rating.
Ouch
If you idle a lot that doesnt help, or all city driving.

@Bearded Clam true that, thanks 👍 I was typing too fast LoL 😆
Recently I got the good fortune of getting a lease upgrade from a Ford Escape to a Rebel for 10 days. I was not a "Ram Fan" in any way but boy was I impressed. 2 things I came away with was how amazing the interior is and the auto Start stop was not the boogie monster everyone made it out to be. In fact It was so smooth I drove for a week before I even realized it had that feature.
2017 rebel here; 4” lift, 18” wheels, 35” tires, intake, tuner, throttle body spacer, throttle controller. 29,5xx miles. No issues at all. I’ve been very happy with this truck.
Thank you guys for all of the awesome videos you make for us.
Lucky you. I’ve owned a 2018 rebel and decided to go with a tundra instead. POS truck started to have some serious electrical issues, excessive oil consumption, and I never abused it by any means.

@@NoIssac yeah it was a big bummer. Might get a rebel 2500 diesel though depending on what ram releases later this month for a new vehicle.
Ahhh but now that the rebel has the ecodiesel I want that one instead esp for a daily driver and long road trips getting 30mpg 😎
Awesome video! Id say the Rebel was exceptional, especially considering it is a first year new model. In comparison my 2018 F150 (not a new model) has had way more issues, but none of the abuse you gave the Rebel. Yep- back in the shop right now actually.
Hey what issues have u had? I have a 2016 f150 and it hasn't been in the shop once.
Lucas Harris 4wd hub vacuum issues @3k miles, several electronics issues (usb hubs replaced, trailer harness water intrusion, reverse sensors replaced), and dealer verified just yesterday it has the cold start engine rattle- vct/ timing chain problem. What is most frustrating is that every time it has a problem its 2 weeks to get into dealer, then the parts are always unavailable/backordered, so its another month before anything is fixed. The current engine problem is awaiting the actual tsb from Ford to be released, per dealer there are no parts currently- “check back in January”. That repair according to dealer will likely be replacing the vct units, and if it wasnt in warranty would be approx. $4200. Less than 2 years and 35k miles and i think its been 10 dealer visits for diagnose and repair so far which is unacceptable in my opinion. Also the undercarriage of the truck is rusting terribly, the rear diff looks like its 10 years old- I see this on alot of 2018 and newer trucks when sitting behind them in traffic (can tell year by stamped tailgate). Other various quality issues including tailgate handle sticking, dash hump, warped glove box etc... This is my first ford, I love the 3.5 ecoboost power and mpg, but with these issues it will be my last.
@@adamharriger5193 Wow! That's crazy man! Sorry to hear u got a lemon...
Thanks for keeping it real Andre! I had been considering this truck/motor combination. However....For my particular needs, I think going to go with a different brand and drivetrain.
Thanks for the honest review!
To be fair, with all the mods to the truck it can't be expected to get EPA gas mileage. That bar and lights in the back of the truck would cause a lot of those issues I would think, and the larger tires.
The did fuel economy testing when the truck was stock, before the modifications.
Fixing the axle under warranty; might have been different for a usual consumer. I haven't experienced anything like this, but if I was a consumer and doing heavy off road driving the dealer could argue that you were pushing the limit of the truck too hard. Overall I like the truck and enjoy watching you put it through it's paces.
Nice job on this!
I'm going to miss the Rebel Rouser. One of my favorite trucks you guys have tested.
I’ve been doing a lot of off roading on trails similar to what you see of TFL, nothing too crazy like the rubicon but definitly nothing like a normal dirt rocky road. I’ve had my 4runner for 20,000 miles and nothing has been broken on the 4Runner so far.
But do you have 35's on it?

Love this truck series! Thanks to Andre and TFL for doing it.!!! The gas mileage with the 3.92 gears sucks. And the factory wheels look better than the beadlocks, IMO. Question now is will Andre buy it?

we have had that damn truck for a year and we still didnt get a city mileage test loop...you paid extra for mild hybrid and never really used it...we need a city test loop for people like me that work in town
The mileage will not be accurate. Changing tire size REALLY tells the computer that you went less miles than you actually went. Other changes like exhaust and intake can also change the MPG.

I also love how you kept the suspension (no pun intended) of whether you'd recommend the truck because of some of the breakage right up until the end. I was super impressed everything that broke was covered under warranty and fixed at the dealership at no cost. That's impressive. I've been debating on a Ram truck for a little bit now and this video for sure pushed me closer.

Trail Boss made it up cliffhanger 2.0 100% stock and didn't break.
Yep, it also lost in fuel mileage. Payload. Recalls. They just announced on the news that ram has a total of 13 recalls so far. The most of any 1/2 ton truck. Plus other things. Just watch this channel. Trailboss is a lot better in everything.
Trail Boss? The Chevy Silverado correct? I'm not a GM fan but their new trucks are looking good, and since Toyota has failed to update their 10+ year old outdated Tundra The Silverado HD or the new 2020 F250 7.3L are both on my list...IDK just would really depend on the incentives for me I think. I had a horrible dealing with GM on a vehicle in the past which really gave me a horrible taste for GM in general...I've always been a Ford & Jeep person...I did have a 2008 Toyota Tundra but with some repeat mechanical issues that thing got dumped at 104k miles and haven't regretted going back to much older vehicles sense then, but probably in a year or 2 I'll be looking at a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup and it'll most likely be up to GM or Ford to win me over and put a new truck in my driveway.

To be honest, you're comparing two different companies with now two different company cultures. Some people are giving Fiat a chance, others are not. I'm from Italy, so i've had my share of shitty Fiats. Uno, Panda, Tipo, etc... You name it. But, lately, they've made some changes. Good to see, but we won't know until the long run...
Yall got robbed on the accesserories for the truck😂😂🤮 .
Most likely got them for free.
I doubt they paid for them. It was all advertising for the companies that provided them.
They got robbed when they bought it, dodge garbage.
Mopar accessories = 2× the price of aftermarket
@@chadsteele1 lol yeah says the guy with a chevy... we all know you're racist now
Love the long term reviews. Very helpful to average consumer. Trucks are so expensive these days. You do the beat you can researching but to see videos like this really helps out. Thanks guys.
The fuel economy numbers are for the truck's family as a whole. Case in point, I have a 2017 Rebel 5.7L 4wd, my best friend has a 2017 Tradesman 5.7L 4wd. The differences between our trucks aside from the option group is, he has the 6.5' bed I have the 5.5' bed, and his tires are highway tires while mine are off road tires. Aside from the tires and bed size our trucks are nearly identical and they are both about the same age. He gets in the high teens for economy on a regular basis, while I get in the mid teens regularly. His truck scales 100# more than mine, and our driving styles are very similar. Tires here are the factor at the end of the day. Prolly whats going on with your truck as well.
That trail was pretty light for a break like that I’d be pissed
Mago Rose the rock got wedged and the tire couldn’t spin, all the power going to a tire that can’t release it will cause breakage...
@Jessi Louis Naw this is just poor offroading driver skills. I've taken a stock z71 colorado multiple times through the mountains of colorado never had an issue.
ghosteye007 agreed, Roman has got to be one of the worst off road drivers I’ve seen, never takes responsibility for poor driving lines, zero finesse 😐 the other guys really carry the channel
When will you review the 2019 ram 2500 6.4 with 8 speed transmission?
Hector Cortes , see the many power wagon videos they have already posted. 👍🏻
We’re waiting for the 3500 non-powerwagon, loaded with 3000lbs in the box and towing a 14000lb bumper pull.
The Rabel looks awesome 🤤
Good job guys!
LOL @ those "offroad running boards"
Over a year??? It's surprising that today's FiatChrysler products even last a year.
It didn't. It broke a drive shaft and left em stranded...
Great summary.
Nice truck!! Thanks for the longterm review and torture test.
Patter Guitsit long term?? I thought it’s a 2019 rebel
@@jlg5798 They had it for a year. Not just a day or a couple hours like most automotive reviews.
