I'm nineteen years old, and I am also a fan of very vintage music. In fact, I have a song set list of over 1,640 songs, and most of them date back to the middle 21st century.

I wish I had a grandpa to talk about the music of the middle of 20th century.
Teenagers on my age, most of them, just like pop music.

Laverne, the oldest, in the middle here, was very sick with liver cancer at this time and died a few months after this performance, they are all gone now - RIP Andrew Sisters and Dean

WOW. How great are they?!! We might have only had THREE tv channels to choose from back in the day, but it was also a time when you could find fantastic performances like this on a plentiful number of variety shows. I guess we didn't know how good we had it back then. Sheesh, this wasn't even a "Special"...just one of your average Dean Martin shows-and he probably did more than 30 EACH season. Now we've got several dozen channels and very little talent to fill them with.

Remind me so much growing in SF back in the 50. Had a collection of all their records till I got divorce after Nam. And all were lost then..The Andrews Sister, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Kruppa, and many more old band and jazz music. How I wish I could return to those times!

I've watched this clip several times but this is the first time I noticed just how much Maxene helped keep LaVerne steady or how LaVerne would sometimes take hold of Patty for a few seconds, and then would continue swaying with the music. The Andrews Sisters remain my favorite trio from the '30s through the '60s.

This was Laverne's last appearance before she died. This was recorded early in 1967 she passed in May of 67. Laverne was known not just for her singing but for being one of the best dressed women in show business. To fulfill their contract for appearing on Dean Martins show she was very briefly replaced(inadequately) by Joyce DeYoung.

Maxine had a Daughter .Patty had a foster child. Laverne had no children. Back then a musical act like this toured 40-45 weeks a year. For women that usually meant making a choice not to have children, especially when the husbands were either part of the band of or a manager.

I wonder? Have you got the number that they song just BEFORE this medley? Dean says "That was so beautiful the way you sung that - I'll tell you that!" - but we don't get to hear what it was? Patty was breathless so they had obviously just sang something as a trio? Plus also notice that as the clip begins the girls are swapping places; i.e. Patty had been in the middle with LaVerne to her right, but LaVerne gets into the middle, giving Patty prime place next to Dean so she can talk to him.

Its interesting to note the difference between an older celebrity who grew up in the 20's/30's, and those who grew up in the 90's/00's. Its literally as if the Entertainment scene went completely batshit crazy about themselves and it started creating stardom feud that ressemble more the kingdom of a medieval warlord.

I know Laverne was ill here but I am always amazed at how much older women in their 50's back then looked compared to today. These days singers and actresses that are 55 dress and wear their hair longer etc not to mention all the botox and what else they do. But Laverne is putting up a good front here. Sad she died just a few months later.
