I'm nineteen years old, and I am also a fan of very vintage music. In fact, I have a song set list of over 1,640 songs, and most of them date back to the middle 21st century.
The fabulous talents of the legendary Dean Martin and The Andrew Sisters show their effortless artistry and charisma which transcends the years. We will never see their like again!
Laverne, the oldest, in the middle here, was very sick with liver cancer at this time and died a few months after this performance, they are all gone now - RIP Andrew Sisters and Dean
WOW. How great are they?!! We might have only had THREE tv channels to choose from back in the day, but it was also a time when you could find fantastic performances like this on a plentiful number of variety shows. I guess we didn't know how good we had it back then. Sheesh, this wasn't even a "Special"...just one of your average Dean Martin shows-and he probably did more than 30 EACH season. Now we've got several dozen channels and very little talent to fill them with.
Remind me so much growing in SF back in the 50. Had a collection of all their records till I got divorce after Nam. And all were lost then..The Andrews Sister, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Kruppa, and many more old band and jazz music. How I wish I could return to those times!
I've watched this clip several times but this is the first time I noticed just how much Maxene helped keep LaVerne steady or how LaVerne would sometimes take hold of Patty for a few seconds, and then would continue swaying with the music. The Andrews Sisters remain my favorite trio from the '30s through the '60s.
I am nearly 40 and I know this is good music parents brought me up right lol I remember me sitting with me and I knew like more then half there music lol man how they would smile
This was Laverne's last appearance before she died. This was recorded early in 1967 she passed in May of 67. Laverne was known not just for her singing but for being one of the best dressed women in show business. To fulfill their contract for appearing on Dean Martins show she was very briefly replaced(inadequately) by Joyce DeYoung.
Maxine had a Daughter .Patty had a foster child. Laverne had no children. Back then a musical act like this toured 40-45 weeks a year. For women that usually meant making a choice not to have children, especially when the husbands were either part of the band of or a manager.
I've always considered the Andrews Sister's song "Bounce Me Brother With a Solid Four" from "Buck Privates" to be the first Rock and Roll song, pre-dating even Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, and Elvis by a decade.
I wonder? Have you got the number that they song just BEFORE this medley? Dean says "That was so beautiful the way you sung that - I'll tell you that!" - but we don't get to hear what it was? Patty was breathless so they had obviously just sang something as a trio? Plus also notice that as the clip begins the girls are swapping places; i.e. Patty had been in the middle with LaVerne to her right, but LaVerne gets into the middle, giving Patty prime place next to Dean so she can talk to him.
Its interesting to note the difference between an older celebrity who grew up in the 20's/30's, and those who grew up in the 90's/00's. Its literally as if the Entertainment scene went completely batshit crazy about themselves and it started creating stardom feud that ressemble more the kingdom of a medieval warlord.
Dean looks like he's enjoying this, he's the perfect counterpoint to their bounciness. Love how the audience gives some applause at Rum & Coca Cola, shows some appreciation for the Andrews Sisters.
@codycobourg Aren't they awesome? Sorry, this is my (LaVerneMaxenePatty38) account also, but I completely forgot the password. But thanks for your comment :)
I know Laverne was ill here but I am always amazed at how much older women in their 50's back then looked compared to today. These days singers and actresses that are 55 dress and wear their hair longer etc not to mention all the botox and what else they do. But Laverne is putting up a good front here. Sad she died just a few months later.
GREAT MUSIC!!!!.I will always say it out loud music back then was better, prettier, full of soul. This so called generation they sing like they have a corn cob up the old wazoo, they shreak, new generation music is bla bla like I just saw two comments below, this was far better, you should have lived back then it was not bla bla bla like your generation.
I might as well eat up this channel! Gosh!. I wish I lived in this era. Now we sing horseshit and call it music. It's terribly saddening, seriously. ☹️
What a horrible way to treat one of the greatest trios of all time! Depolrable! Who cares about the Andrews sisters singing with Dean Martin? I think people want to hear the carefully worked out harmony of the Andrews Sisters! By themselves!
in my 89th year I remember them so well, what talent unequalled up till now.
My respect to you
I'm nineteen years old, and I am also a fan of very vintage music. In fact, I have a song set list of over 1,640 songs, and most of them date back to the middle 21st century.
Not just talent, but class. Pure class.
I wish I had a grandpa to talk about the music of the middle of 20th century.
Teenagers on my age, most of them, just like pop music.
You re very Lucky
The fabulous talents of the legendary Dean Martin and The Andrew Sisters show their effortless artistry and charisma which transcends the years. We will never see their like again!
Great! Dean Martin and the Andrews Sisters, a wonderful mix of 1a artist!
Laverne, the oldest, in the middle here, was very sick with liver cancer at this time and died a few months after this performance, they are all gone now - RIP Andrew Sisters and Dean

I'm considered the youth of this country and I find this so much more appealing then most modern day television. Classic and perfect.
Because today they don't hire singers--they hire dancers. And they sing through a machine...Gross
This is my 'happy' song. Whenever I'm down I play this to cheer me up !!!
Remind me so much growing in SF back in the 50. Had a collection of all their records till I got divorce after Nam. And all were lost then..The Andrews Sister, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Kruppa, and many more old band and jazz music. How I wish I could return to those times!
Music for ALL ages! It doesn't get much better!
Fantastic performance
Music is timeless. Just look at the songs that are recycled and become hits for each generation. Good for you taking the time to give it a listen.
LaVerne Andrews was sick with cancer when this was done. She puled off a great and valiant performance and she always showed she had class.
jfmjr86
I think this was her last appearance :(
Laverne and her sisters will forever live in the realm of fantastic music.
+jfmjr86 LaVerne for some reason is my favorite but when watching their movie clips it is soooo hard to take my eyes off Patty. They are the best.
What kind of cancer was it, do you know? She put a smile on her face and delivered a memorable performance. Bless her. Bless all of them.

what troopers - but they were a part of the Greatest Generation, so why would we expect anything less
I am nearly 40 and I know this is good music parents brought me up right lol I remember me sitting with me and I knew like more then half there music lol man how they would smile
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wonderful! The greatest singers ever!!!! Maybe!!!!
Ach wie schön, mit diesen Liedern bin ich aufgewachsen. Wir hatten den RIAS und ARD und ZDF, Gott sei Dank.

The Dean Martin Comedy Hour. NBC 1965-1974

Her name is Lynda Wells and she lives on Cape Cod. That is about all I know about her.
Robert collins Actually, she isn't Maxene's daughter but her manager. Maxene had two children, Peter and Aleda Ann.
N P I was read an obituary and if it is correct she passed away last week.
Great upload. I like this alot.
The One and ONLY -- Andrews Sisters!💕
OMG--this is REAL music!! So perfect.... Love this....

How amazing is technology that we can watch this. It's mind blowing. And Dean and the girls are a match indeed!
Great song, love it! Thank you very much for posting this!
This is really a beautiful video. Thanks for the upload!
RIP Patty... and the others in this show, everyone are in Paradise!
I like the way these singers rotate the eyes when they sing.
Pure class!
Nagyon kedves melódiák.
I agree with every word you said, and think the same thing often!
Loved it! Thanks for posting :)
I don't like the way Patty takes LaVerne arm off her back but I love the way Maxene puts hers around her. You are grand, ladies!
I love how she holds her sister by the waist.
+Witchy1976 That was precious. :)
+Mackenzie King It definitely was!
I read a few years ago that this was because Laverne was terminally ill, and died not long after. Beautiful performance.
Big very good souvenirs i like very much
This was back when this Country was still great!
And to the memory of the great Dean Martin.. one of the best.
❤❤❤❤😘
Amazing
I've always considered the Andrews Sister's song "Bounce Me Brother With a Solid Four" from "Buck Privates" to be the first Rock and Roll song, pre-dating even Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, and Elvis by a decade.
Dean Martin is a funny character that can never be duplicated!
The Andrews Sisters Channel, when was this footage of the Andrews Sisters and Dean Martin filmed?
History Man September 29, 1966
Dean Martin My HERO
LOVE IT ...from Denmark
Just love this beautiful era wishing is a great thing....🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
I wonder? Have you got the number that they song just BEFORE this medley? Dean says "That was so beautiful the way you sung that - I'll tell you that!" - but we don't get to hear what it was? This is music you damn youth ;)
9/29/1966 (Air date)
Probably recorded a few weeks before the air date.
Dean the best ever
The old Andrew sisters and a young Dean Martin means a very long time ago.
Dean was born in 1917. The oldest sister was born in 1911.
I like very much
AWESOME :)
Truly the 1st super female group, they truly was brilliant, and Dean greatest crooner
sans ces artistes notre musique n'aurait peut-être pas avancée
FENOMENAL _ all 4.....
José José
Amazing, and kinda freaky how much Patty looks like Bette Midler here.
+LazlosPlane shouldn't that be the reverse, that Bette Midler looks like Patty Andrews?
+LazlosPlane More like Bette worked at looking like Patty.......
Maybe, but I don't think she had to work at it!
J'aime
der Typ hotz echt drauf kopp, mit de 3 andrea sisters bringa an Sound zomme...
dr Hammer!!!!!
@codycobourg
Aren't they awesome? Sorry, this is my (LaVerneMaxenePatty38) account also, but I completely forgot the password. But thanks for your comment :)
RIP Patty
RIP Patty Andrews
love it- but that bird in the middle looks like cherie blair
LaVerne died a year after this. :(
Goodbye to a great American Patriot, Patty Andrews. May you all be in Heaven together.
This was the last appearance of the Andrews Sisters as a trio.
This is real entertainment.
So this is what the SNL skits are based off of!
c'est toujours super la mode je m'en fiches!!
That was entertaiment! A year later and Lavern was dead. They were the best sisters group all times!
I know Laverne was ill here but I am always amazed at how much older women in their 50's back then looked compared to today. These days singers and actresses that are 55 dress and wear their hair longer etc not to mention all the botox and what else they do. But Laverne is putting up a good front here. Check out the Boswell Sisters! They influenced a whole generation of jazz singers including these ladies and Ella Fitzgerald!
Is this the only time they sing together?
RUMM AND COCAAA COLAAA~~~
Too much Rum, no Cola
The Andrews sisters changed within twenty years. They didn't look like that in the 40's.
Well that happens to people, as they get older.
You there, Lauralaey5?
that patty was cute
this might be laverne's last performance (cancer)
Was Dean Martin drunk? Or did he always sound like that. Mind you, he could still croon. lol
“Rum and Coca Cola “was a song of anti Americanism. The sisters didn’t know this when they were asked to record it.
I might as well eat up this channel! Gosh!. I wish I lived in this era. Now we sing horseshit and call it music. It's terribly saddening, seriously. ☹️

born in the wrong century. so sad
THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THIS ANYMORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's an understatement.
