It's nice that Welsh is getting some attention, but there's still a part of me that feels like my language, my culture, is seen as a novelty party trick.

I have been to that railway station in Wales and I could believe that it would be a real test if someone is really Welsh to be able to say the name properly.
It's a real mouthful and even true Welsh people will often shorten the place name which if I remember correctly is on Anglesey (an island connected by a bridge or 2 to the Welsh mainland).
It is indeed on Anglesey but it’s not really that people shorten it. The long form was invented in the nineteenth century for tourist purposes. But there are various short forms that people use so in that sense some shorten it from the authentic form.
Is his Welsh of the northern or southern dialect?
Likely southern; he was born in Aberdare then moved to Cardiff during childhood.
