What do elves learn in school? The elf-abet....What did the gingerbread man put on his bed? A cookie sheet....What is a Christmas tree's favorite candy? Orna-mints. What is the difference between the Christmas alphabet and the regular alphabet? It has Noel. I love the crackers!
I love my childhood memories of going to the Christmas dinner table, and all of us children waiting to open our beautifully wrapped Christmas crackers at each of our place settings - we would be so excited to pop it open to see the surprises that would fall out...now we get see the next generation doing the same thing - such a sweet memory! 🌲🎅🤶☃️ (I grew up in Phoenix Arizona, so there was never any snow outside, but it was always very "Christmasy" inside.)
You need a paper cutter! One of the fancy ones that you use with the computer. I make amazing paper creations with it. I’m making them next year. I can’t wait to make this a tradition in our family going forward. Our family heritage is English and Scottish but we never learned much about the great fun traditions. We will be bringing back history.
We do have them. You can even get the kits on Amazon to make your own. Check world market , Whole Foods and such. Even saw some at Ross store this year.
There is a store here in Texas called the "World Market", but it is all over the US. They sell crackers every year, along with proper English biscuits, pudding, and minced tarts!
A rolled up piece of paper (A4 or 8.5x11) makes a fabulous funnel to get the contents past the cut out triangles on the open end. What beautiful fun. I had to stop the video to get my craft supplies so I could make my own cracker as I watched your demo. Merry Christmas from Seattle, WA, USA!!
My nephew and I have been working on crackers for our Christmas dinner table. I let him choose jokes from a page a day calendar I get every year. It has been a fun project to do together.
My in-laws always had Christmas crackers for our family Christmas party. If I remember correctly, there was usually a small toy inside, in addition to the joke and crown.
We have had Christmas crackers every year for quite a while now. My grandchildren love them. We wait until desert to read the jokes, going around the table listening to all.
I loved this video ❤️ a few years ago I bought popper’s at World Market, pricey but a hit. Next year I’ll have to make them hopefully I can find the popping stick here in the United States 🇺🇸. And after the felting video that I really liked, I looked up felting kits on Amazon. I’m a crafty person and a retired Nail Tech/Manicurists, which I need to do it’s 9:30pm here. The hardest part about doing my nails is what art work I’ll do and the longest lol. 🎄❤️🇺🇸
Joke: Two fish are in a tank when one turns to the other and says “ Do you know how to drive this thing?” Lol it is corny but cute. The crackers look like fun to make.
I was cleaning today and came upon a copy of The English Garden magazine March 2003. I browsed through before discarding it and was so surprised when I saw an article on DRAMATIC MAPPERTON! I know, right? So many wonderful photos that were very familiar from your videos. Your mother in law had a great photo of herself as well. I felt as though I found an old friend. So excited and I couldn’t wait to share it with you. Now I can’t throw the magazine away. 🤣😂😅😍
This has brought back memories of a friend who lived in Trinidad. Sadly, he died too young, so not all happy ones. He discovered crackers online, and as a Christmas fanatic desperately wanted to make them. Unfortunately, he had been unable to source the "snaps", but discovered that a shop near where I live in England had got them. I was so disappointed not to be able to send them because of postal regulations. Every time that I see crackers now, I feel a pang of sadness. These look good. In the past I made special ones for children, decorated with sweets (candy), and with more inside. I got told off by the adults that I didn't make for them also. A "joke": Who is a favourite singer with Santa's little helpers? Answer: Elf-is Pressie-ley...
We miss seeing Claire and Stephen! I hope you do another set of Christmas videos like these! These were wonderful! I enjoy seeing the crafts and Christmas recipes!
Christmas crackers are a part of our after Christmas dinner festivities. I buy the crackers that have little whistles and Christmas carol music. We pass out copies of the music and make our own little 8 piece band. So much fun! Thanks for sharing your traditions. Have a very merry Christmas.
I never really knew what Christmas crackers actually were. Kind of thought they actually had crackers in them lol Thank you for enlightening me. They are much more fun than their name implies. 😆
What a great project! Loving this series, which I found in June. When I make Christmas crackers, I use crepe paper. It stretches a bit. By the way Julie, I live about 70 miles from Sugar Grove, IL.
I am so glad I will have this for next year. I have not been able to find Christmas crackers with the snap this year! 😢 Now, I know how to make my own. Claire, you are brilliant!
For the mathematically challenged, or inch-only ruler (when most decent rulers now have inches on one edge & cm on the other). 1 inch = 2.5 cm (2.54, if you really want to get precise). So 5 cm = 2 inches. Easy-peasy! What a lot of fun these are!
Thank u for this. I couldn’t find any this year (usually I can find them at Marshall’s or Tj max). Very helpful and a great activity to do with the older kids for the littles.
My six year old self, favourite joke: " What is black and white and red all over?" A newspaper! What is truly funny, is that as a six year old, I did not understand why the grownups laughed, but I loved seeing them chuckle, groan and cheer.
Awesome video 😎 thank you for sharing For many years I made my own crackers … I put trinkets in, & with close family I put real silver or gold charms (if they had charm bracelets) & I put the bits in before rolling the paper around it 💜🙏
This is fascinating but I"m lazy and will continue just buying my crackers. Lazyness.... the final and most deadly sin lol. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I really enjoyed this video of yours Julie
Wondering are the hats and jokes a traditional thing? I make them of different sizes every year and fill them with candies or small toys. I put them in the kids stocking and make extra just to pass out to random people and wait staff. I'm in Illinois, love seeing how different places have different traditions. Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year to your household!
🤶🕊. Quit a few stores carry crackers. We have them as long as I can remember………. And that’s a long time 🤶🤶🥰. We also used packing tissue paper . When we made them . Just a twist. And a tie . Done. Or very light wrapping paper.
I love this, my son is an Air Line Pilot, for his Joke I am going to put in: SON: mom when I grow up I want to be a pilot.. MOM: sorry son, you cant do both
You can manipulate toilet cardboard rolls by cutting into it to make geometric christmas ornaments. I do the same with egg cartoons. Use package wrapping instead of the brown craftpaper or grocery bags.
For anyone who doesn't have the patience for all this measuring and cutting, use crepe paper. It is flexible enough that you only need to tie it at the end of the tube, without any cutting.
I use to tie one end after the snap because if you pick the cracker up ant tilt it to much the stuff your putting in all ways fell out and we use to put money in ours like a £1 coin
I'm American & was wondering what made the crackers crack. I wonder if you could get those cracker stick thingies at Amazon?🤔 Anyway, I'd probably go overboard & make the paper 👑 with glitter.🙄
Another "groan" style joke: Qu: What's the best Christmas present of all? Answer: A broken drum - you can't beat it! Oh and a wee tip on cutting out the diamonds. Prepare a thick card version of what you want to do with the diamonds cut out using a Stanley or other craft knife and this will give you a template that you can use again and again, year after year to make the basic outside part of the cracker.
•A weasel walks into a bar. The bar tender goes, “Wow! I’ve NEVER had a weasel come in! What can I get you?” “Pop!”, goes the weasel. • What do you get when you cross a rabbit with an anesthesiologist? An ether bunny • How do you catch a blue elephant? With a blue elephant gun. How do you catch a pink elephant? Make him hold his breath until he turns blue, then use a blue elephant gun.
That won't work. The cracker snaps need to be threaded through the roll as well. They won't move/snap properly if hampered by more paper across the ends of the roll.
What do elves learn in school? The elf-abet....What did the gingerbread man put on his bed? A cookie sheet....What is a Christmas tree's favorite candy? Orna-mints. What is the difference between the Christmas alphabet and the regular alphabet? It has Noel. I love the crackers!
GOOD ONES!!!!
Lol
Tamara, Wonderful!
Definitely American humo(u)r!
Where do you buy the snaps please.

Why didn't the lifeguard save the hippie from drowning? Because he was too far out, Man! ahahaha...
Your videos make me want to experience an English Christmas more than Charles Dickens ever did. 🎄. Joke - How does a snowman get to work? - By icicle
They need a toy or candy in it for kids! Lol. Thoughts are adorable! ,

How do you catch a unique rabbit? U-nique up on him
How do you catch a tame rabbit? The tame way, U-nique up on him
Happy Christmas 🎅
These were very popular in Chicago during my childhood. We had them at New Year’s Eve, too. They are still popular here.
I wish we, here in America, had crackers for Christmas. I love the fact that you roll up your sleeves and are not afraid of work.
We do have them. You can even get the kits on Amazon to make your own. Check world market , Whole Foods and such. Even saw some at Ross store this year.
We do! I get them every year. They sell them at craft stores and some pharmacies!
There is a store here in Texas called the "World Market", but it is all over the US. They sell crackers every year, along with proper English biscuits, pudding, and minced tarts!
You can get them at Costco!
This looks so fun! I've never had a Christmas cracker before.
Finally: instructions in cm! This detail alone made my day! Thank You and a Merry Christmas to You and all!

Lovely video, thanks so much! It was delightful to watch you both cheerily trying your hands at crafting.

Made Christmas crackers with children from our church family for many, many years. They loved them!

Love this video! So happy to know how to make a Christmas cracker and that there are multiple decorations you can put on them!

Making Christmas crackers and drinking mulled cider. Could it get any better than that? Merry Christmas to all.
We miss seeing Claire and Stephen! I hope you do another set of Christmas videos like these! These were wonderful! I enjoy seeing the crafts and Christmas recipes!
After returning back to America from England. Christmas Crackers were a must and so much fun to make.
My family in Australia always called these 'Christmas Bonbons'.

Looking back through old pictures, I can see which ones were from Christmas cuz everyone was wearing a hat 🙂
How fun! I am not sure if I'm patient enough.

🤶🕊. Quit a few stores carry crackers. We have them as long as I can remember………. And that’s a long time 🤶🤶🥰. We also used packing tissue paper . When we made them . Just a twist. And a tie . Done. Or very light wrapping paper.
Made me laugh at what a palaver making simple crackers. Thank you 😀
I learned something. I thought real crackers went in those. I enjoyed learning how to make those.
You can cut up your old Christmas cards from last year we also use them for tags for presents which saves us money 💰
I love this, my son is an Air Line Pilot, for his Joke I am going to put in: SON: mom when I grow up I want to be a pilot.. MOM: sorry son, you cant do both
Oh my! I love Claire’s sparkly Christmas robin shirt! Is it available from Claire’s shop?
Well it's Christmas Eve today and its noon. Too late to do this fun craft. But next year! Look Out!
Good Joke...What reindeer on Santa's team was the most insulting?...
Rude-olf get it? Rudolph
You can manipulate toilet cardboard rolls by cutting into it to make geometric christmas ornaments. I do the same with egg cartoons. Use package wrapping instead of the brown craftpaper or grocery bags.
I would be freaking out! Did you throw out the mulled wine you made with Luke?😀
Merry Christmas from Indiana
Bad joke for this year’s crackers: If a bear puts on socks, he still has bear feet. 😀
Love this!!!💕
BEST!
My family in Canada puts one of those little alcohol bottles or a scratch and win inside 😉

How do you keep the hot mulled cider from cracking those lovely glasses?
Those are the biggest rose hips I’ve ever seen!😊
What are exactly the “snaps”? Can I find them in a craft store?
I'm American & was wondering what made the crackers crack. I wonder if you could get those cracker stick thingies at Amazon?🤔 Anyway, I'd probably go overboard & make the paper 👑 with glitter.🙄
Merry XMAS !!! xoxoxxo
Why couldn't the bike go up the hill? It was two tired.😊
Another "groan" style joke:
Qu: What's the best Christmas present of all?

Can you pot wrapped candy in them?
Small toys & chocolates in the crackers too?
Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7, 8 (ate) 9 😊🤗
How do you catch a tame one? Tame way!
Didn't the imperial system come from the English?
What about a Mapperton coat of arms on the crown.?
Wasn't "Lou Rolls" a singer in the USA?
Head to Fortnum's.
Love it all but, my, those crackers take a lot of work!
Where can I get the snaps if I'm in the states?
Maybe add a wrapped candy plus a balloon (not for tykes) ,a tiny ornament or trinket. Joke? Why do people like snowmen? They're so COOL.
You should checkout Harrods or Fortnum and Mason crackers. You won't believe what gets put into some.
How do you catch a squirrel? Sit in a tree and look like a nut.
Try not to tie the end to tight because you can break the end
What is a pirate’s favorite letter? You’d think it’d be R, but his first love be the C.
FIRST: Stuff the toilet roll with all goodies.... THEN: Roll it in the Cracker Paper... Much easier. XOXOXO
That won't work. The cracker snaps need to be threaded through the roll as well. They won't move/snap properly if hampered by more paper across the ends of the roll.
So sad that you don’t ship to US
We will very soon!
