The problem is that this hybrid engine was designed primarily for more torque/power than actual fuel economy. The EPA numbers are based on optimal driving conditions, with speeds of around 55-60 mph. At the end of the day, this 5,000 lb tall brick of a truck is being pushed through air by a 4 cyl turbo engine. Physics is physics. Imagine the range this thing would get towing 3,000 lb, or even just going to a larger tire. I avergae 18.5 mpg mixed driving in my 5th gen 4Runner, and I really considered the new LC because of the advertised power and efficency numbers, but the more I dig around on forums and UA-cam, it seems like there's absolutely no reason to take the plunge with this new platform. Thanks for making this video!
No. The problem is that they advertised it to get 25mpg highway. 55-60mph is not highway (freeway) speed. Nothing wrong with a bug SUV getting 20 mpg hwy but Toyota lied and some people bought this SUV because they saw the 25mpg hwy. Let's be honest. Great SUV but Toyota lied. If Toyota claimed 18mpg hwy and we are getting 20mpg, then we would have been happy. But if you are getting 20mpg, then you should better off bought the GX550. Better quality, more power, most likely better resale, 300lbs more payload, 3000 lbs more towing capacity, bigger brakes, quieter and better ride, suspension dampening selection etc... all this at the same price and actual MPG.
I have read from a few owners say the first 1000 miles it’s not as efficient and it gets better. Odd how some are way below 20 mpg and some are a few mpg above 20. Appreciate if you can let us know how you’re doing as time goes on.
My guess is that you're miles per gallon is off because you're driving 70 miles an hour when they do the ratings it's more like 55 or 60 MPH. In my experience all cars will get significantly worse miles per gallon as we go faster than the 55. my Lexus gs 350 will get like 22 miles per gallon at 55 on the but if I go 80 I get about 17.8
@@shahn78 yes, and uses electric to assist the gas motor. And can use electric in parking lots etc. I put 35s on my 2024 LC and leveling kit on the front and I am averageing 16.3 mpg.
Mine has 2500 miles and only getting 19.8 MPG... I do live in the mountains and have driven about 50 miles on dirt. Removed the air dams and put AT tires on it.
I have been getting close to city mpg (22.9)and a tad over hwy mpg (26.8) on my 1958 with the stock wheels and tires. "TRDJon" said he got similar hwy numbers around 26.8mpg. I have also had it on ECO mode since I bought the thing, so maybe Toyota is basing it off their ECO setting. I have a new wheel/tire setup (17x8 on 285/70/r17 AT-SL Rated) so I'll be posting another mpg test on those.
I'm no expert here, but I can all but guarantee the EPA rating is for ECO mode and probably around 55-60 mph. They will always advertise the absolute very best they can eek out with road tires, no lift, air dams installed, and eco mode. Otherwise, if they drive it the way everyday folks drive with mods and all, they will not be able to say they are "class-leading"
I only can say this is an improvement over the previous gen Land Cruiser which was EPA rated 14 combined city/hwy, which is what matters to Toyota because the old Land Cruiser was bringing down their CAFE number.
It is a big improvement over the J200 and its 5.7 liter V8. Although after review this Land Cruiser I'd really like to review one of those older big boys just to see the differences for myself.
Do you know of this would be grounds for legal action against the manufacturer? I mean, if it is consistently giving you 4-5 MPG below the advertised number by the EPA?
Thanks for doing these test. That’s Disappointing. I was hoping the new hybrid max Tacoma (with this same powertrain) would be a noticeable improvement over the base 2.4. Based on these tests, I’d say not.
There is no way this vehicle will get 25 mpg. I have driven it with my purse on eco and the best ever is 22 mpg. This vehicle is further off of EPA mpg than any vehicle I have ever purchased.
If you a drive a new Land Cruiser, please let me know what MPG you are getting in your car!
Been averaging around 24.4 I have 5600 miles.
Averaging about 20 mpg mostly highway.
I own a '24 Land Cruiser and still within the break-in period with 782 miles. So far, I'm getting 19.2 mpg.
hybrid?

My new LC is only averaging 16.3 mpg for the first 900 miles of mostly city driving. Pretty disappointing given the EPA city is 22.

Yes aerodynamic drag increases exponentially as speed increases. Epecially on these boxy vehicles.
No. Check daily motor channnel. Over 250 highway mpg tests and almost every car at 70mph average speed gets better mpg than EPA rating.
Right, arent hybrids more efficient in stop & go cos the motor will shut off more often?

All terrain tires is why and air damn removal in town mpg should be better
Thank you for doing it at 70mph. Most highways have a speed limit of 70mph.

i’m curious if running in eco with 87 since now it’s been confirmed you “can” run 87. they recommend 91 towing and in hills.
@@providentpathfinders219 news to me! That 91 octane has been painful on my CC balance 😩, but thank goodness.
@@providentpathfinders219where was it confirmed? I have been looking for info on this.
i was told to hunt for the Toyota video where a tech said “you can run 87”

If it turns out they all do this all the time, it certainly could be grounds for a class action lawsuit.
No grounds, since it hits its EPA estimates under Eco just fine
My 2025 has 337 miles and it’s getting 14 to 15 MPG. They lied
What king of range does it get? Your dash looks like it said 250 miles.
I can't really say because its not my car, I just had it for a few days to film it
I get 379 per fill

Such a heavy vehicle will always be gas hog. All the same its better than rival cars in its category
False advertising.🤨🤔🤬
All Toyota SUVs and trucks get below what they rate them at....not great for Toyota trucks and SUVs value (Tundra values tanking)
Powertrain need work. Its not smooth. Jerky, rough shifts. Its not refined
try eco mode 🤷🏻♂️
eco mode is just a rev limiter. does nothing for mpg at highway speed
@@superset5apparently you’re not correct, comparing those who have driven in eco and shown their highway mpg does indeed differ from normal mode.
Substantially better in Eco
Too many redundant SUV's in the lineup.
They do make a lot of SUVs that is a fact!
Lead-foot try 55/65 speed
haha 55 so semi can overtake you
PUT IT ON "ECO"!🤦🏼it'll get like 26.8MPG
PUT IT IN H!!
Try it in L🤣

There's examples of people getting the proper MPGs in Eco just fine, TheFamilyCruiser250 for example said just as much
My new 5G 4Runner is doing much better than that.
😂😂😂downhill on EVERY road!😂😂😂
Lies! 😜
As a previous 5g owner. 100% lies. Flat road at 55mph maybe you get high teens. 70+mph and hills =12.
Unaffordable price for a car with full of shitty materials lol
Hyundai santa fe sounds right up your alley
Your description screams Tesla
Lead-foot try 55/65 speed
