I feel like the best under 100 dollar deal of all time was the Neat worker bee 1. It has a really nice presence boost that added air and detail to voices and instruments like acoustic guitar without it becoming harsh and when it was on clearance you basically got a 200 dollar mic for only 90 dollars. I feel like you would definitely like this mic over the worker bee 2 and you can get them used for around 60 dollars now and it's VASTLY superior sounding than the second iteration.
Really liked the video! Looking at sub $100 mics. Really liked the V67 based on some other stuff, but now you've got me seriously considering that PGA181!
I do wonder how a t.bone mic would have fared in this test? 🤔 I did extensive research about 2 years ago, with one of the competitors being the popular AT2020, but I finally settled on the t.bone SC400. It's cheaper, but seemed to provide similar/good quality on the sparse tests I could find 💁♂ But I wanted a vocal, not just voiceover mic. The newer BC500 seems to be good too and it's spesifically designed for broadcasts.
I love the video, I've watched it three times now. Back in 2020 there was a lot of misinformation going around and a lot of people recommended the Blue Yeti which I've found to be impossible to work with. I suffer from the dreaded sibilant S, but I also have a very deep voice so I'm torn between the Shure, AT2020, and the Ember but I'm gun shy on the Ember just thinking about all that background noise and self noise I got with the Yeti.
GREAT VIDEO!!!! You know I could of helped you with the plosives (LOL), I make all sorts of mouth sounds to include the rascally plosive. I am a podcaster/UA-camr and I have 2 mics (Shure SM7B and the black RE20) and they have worked so far in my VO training. Even though I am still green, this was a very informative video on the different styles, types, etc.. of mics used for various VO work. My voice timbre is a little on the higher end so I appreciate the Shure SM7B; I do use 2 pop filters (LOL) because you can never have enough pop filters! As usual, a fantastic video sir!
Rick, you're awesome. This is very important because it is updated. Thank you. PS.. I enjoyed the lil person in the helmet slapping off your credit card. No more spending Rick!❌💳❌😂🤣
Thanks Rick... Very informative! Side note: gonna go out on the limb here. I bet the person in the helmet is his wife.😂 Its something MY wife would do... Hehehehe😅
Awesome video. After trying a handful of mics for the past couple of years, I've been so satisfied with the Blue ember that I stopped buying other mics. I was super curious about the Shure PGA though but there just wasn't enough clear testing available to listen to.
This was such a well done, helpful video. It earned you a new subscriber, which worries me because I really don't need to watch more videos on audio gear. I'm really happy with my Neat King Bee II and Worker Bee II mics for my podcasts, so it was cool to see the Worker Bee II featured here.
I absolutely loved this video! I literally laughed out loud. I have an AT2020 and I'm glad I picked it. 🙂 Maybe I'll pick up a PGA 181... Thanks Rick! Man I miss working with you! Not to mention hanging out and just being buds.
would love to see you review the mc-900 by recording tools sometime in the future! it's about $130, relatively unknown and people say that it is a bang for the buck.
Man... I love your videos. So usefull and funny. I can learn a lot of your content and I can see there is a lot of work in every video you make. Thanks for your dedication, keep going and Greetings from Spain.
Finally someone that talks about SHURE products. The PGA181 sounds great!!! although it has a base noise noticeably high, compared to the other mics you compared it with. But anyway, it is a robust mic, and also quality on their construction materials. I don't know how other brands have taken over the advantage Shure had, due to it is a brand with a lot of time doing microphones for broadcasting radio and TV. You could try the PGA27 also, the mic is very good and it has a very good quality comparable with other products from familles more up on the brand. Good video!!! Also forgot to tell you that the mic AT2040 sounds great despite it is a dynamic mic. Could you do a comparison between this AT2040 and the ZOOM ZDM-1? Thanks!!!
Congrats on an awesomely thorough and *reasonably* scientific comparison. Can you please elaborate on why the MXL was out straight up? To me in the *secret* vid it's between the Shure and the MXL. Both have the kind of sheen and "pixie dust" that are usually added in post for VO on a flatter mic, the Shure's is just a little more brittle.
When I was listening back, to me the MXL sounded bitey in the high end. I think what you hear as sheen, I heard more like gritty. I could also hear the self noise, which put me off. But that's just me. But I agree, the Shure to me is right on the cusp of being too harsh. But it cuts nicely in a mix. Thanks for the comment!
Very helpful video. It's good to see testing of the low(er) end products and not just the super expensive very high end equipment. Not many of us have that reach nor need for such extravagence, so thank you. At the moment I don't have an XLR setup and I'd be interested in your thoughts/opinions of an XLR to USB cable? Does using an adaptor cable have much of an effect on the sound quality? Cheers and thanks again for the video.
You know, I don't have a lot of experience with adaptor cables, but I can tell you that you'll need 48v phantom power if you're planning on using a condenser mic. I don't think the adaptor cables can provide that. Thanks for watching!
And you did not include a single dynamic microphone? Are they that much inferior? I guess people on a tough budget for a mic will likely have less then optimal recording spaces.
Hi, thanks for your video. I have the 3 of your top 3 choice, do you think the Blue Ember is a good mic for podcast? Can you make a review just n the Ember there are not to many videos just found 4 at the most and would like to know a little more about it, thank you, have a great day!
Yeah, the Ember has a nice, soft, easy to listen to sound. I think it would be great for podcasting. Especially for monologue style without any music. Thanks for the comment.
I'm actually looking for a new mic for my stream and voice over but my voice to me sounds higher what should I get I'm also limited budget wise any help appreciated I'm currently using a snowball
AT2020 is the best mic for his price, but most important thing is this: AT2020 frequency response is almoust exactly what you need to put voice over in the mix. He sounds "shitty" - in the right way. Let me explain - when you record your VO on high end mic - your sound is beautiful, with rich highs and lows, transparent mids etc, BUT - you dont get sound "in the mix" straight out of the box. I mean, u need to hear the voice, exactly from your screen, right from the set where movie was created, or "in the place" when your game character is. And AT2020 is sounds exactly that way. Im not talking about reverberation, im talkling about frequensy response. Usually, u need to do this by urself - screw up ur recording with eq (cutting lows, cutting highs, balance mids etc), with AT2020 - u almoust dont need to do that, only slight cut on highs and low end and u good to go! With u87 and tlm103, when you recording dub from 50 santimeters away - u usually dont need to do much eq for voice neither. I hope you all get the point. Dont get me wrong - AT2020 is kinda "meh" mic for singing, and kinda "meh" mic for instruments (only on hi-hat he is ok), but on the voice - he is THE KING. And one more thing for you to know, AT2020 is using ELECTRET CAPSULE, u almoust dont see that in the niche of condenser microphones. That exatle why he sound as "shitty", as real VO from set is.
the budget STIG , certainly needed... Great review 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice use of "Two Tribes" from Frankie Goes to Hollywood!
I can't believe more people don't give your amazing videos a thumbs up!
Awww. thanks!

CAD and Beringer B1 is missing in that test

I don't understand why this channel has so few subs. The content is really entertaining

I have a teleportation reserving pad at my house. Lots of traffic. Come on by.
Wonderful video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! I'm still waiting on delivery of my teleportation pad.

Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for such a detailed explanation. It is overwhelming to learn about all this from zero experience.

Maybe I'll pick up a PGA 181... Thanks Rick!

I know! Me too! We gotta jump on a zoom call or something.
You are the best voice over UA-camr
Thanks!
Always enjoy and learn from your videos. This was one I'll be sharing.
Thanks!
Awesome video - you are amazingly thorough - Thanks for providing all of this great content!

I'll look into it! Thanks for the comment.
Really, really enjoyed this video! Thanks for the insightful video concerning these mics. Enjoyed it so much I subscribed!
Welcome aboard!
An Akg p120 is another sub 100 mic that would probably do well in this mix.
Yep
Man...
I love your videos.
So usefull and funny.
I can learn a lot of your content and I can see there is a lot of work in every video you make.

You’re so good! Lol! Informative and fun! Thanks!
Thanks!
-48 db self noise, but -57 db room noise for Mackie? How is that possible? Different gain levels on different tests?
Don't think so.
great video! i was surprised with how good the AT2020 sounded on your voice
Yeah me too
Thank you, good human
Thank you.
This is an exceptionally good, informative, and entertaining mic comparison video. Thanks and super Well Done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've been considering upgrading from my ... bm900 ... lol. at2020 is my #1 choice.
Awesome

Awesome content man
Thanks!
I seriously did not expect the AT2020 to do this well
Right? People either love it or hate it.
Hey love your vids you have been a real help for me furthering my voice acting career.
You're totally welcome!

Um... I'm sorry I don't understand.
@@creatorsvillage Thanks, you are the best.
This is literally the only video on UA-cam for the shure pga181 that isn’t for singing, or instruments
It's a hidden gem.
Very helpful & funny 😄
Glad you think so!

No fifine products?
why not hyperex quadcast?
Thanks for the show. Which one is good for music?
Well, that REALLY depends. Music is such a wide scope.
Give one of those please
Jussst one !!
Thanks for watching. I may be doing a give away very soon. Stay tuned.
What mic are you using in this video, sounds great.
When i'm in the booth, I have a Shure KSM32, when i'm in the office it's a AT2040.
And you did not include a single dynamic microphone? Are they that much inferior? I guess people on a tough budget for a mic will likely have less then optimal recording spaces.
Awesome content!
Appreciate it!
Hey you forgot to mention your own AT2040 that is below $100🍕
Yeah, but... The 2040 is a dynamic mic, not a condenser. I'll be doing a dynamic mic shootout soon.
@@creatorsvillage I'm grateful
Where is the secret performance video? I'm blind and can't find it in the description.
It's in there.
@@creatorsvillage I was blind but now I see. Found it! I was looking for a blue hyperlink, I see the link was embedded differently now.
The surprising thing was that there weren't any surprises.

Shure PGA vs Podmic for streaming?
The pga is going to be better in a treated space like a booth. the podmic is dynamic so more forgiving in a noisy room.
Spreadsheet? Where?
OMG you're right! I'll post it in my community tab. Good catch!
I'm actually looking for a new mic for my stream and voice over but my voice to me sounds higher what should I get I'm also limited budget wise any help appreciated I'm currently using a snowball
If you have a high voice, try something like the tempest, it's very warm.
Completely off-topic but I just realized you look like the friendlier, next-door-ish version of Ian Somerhalder.
Ha! Thanks.
