It broke my heart the way stupid people felt towards the Vietnam vets that were forced, drafted to go to Vietnam and kill. They had no choice, it was either go or go to jail or considered a deserter. I thought it was awful and I am so sorry for how you were treated, as usual a bunch of uninformed morons taking out their anger on the people that had nothing to do with the decision.
It's April 22, 2023, and THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW reminded me of this good old song. I was watching one of her old shows and she was singing this song with Nancy Wilson. I remembered that I liked this song and I had to add it to my playlist.
Heard this song when in Vietnam so touching came home and got treated like garbage did not ask to go there but served with pride God bless to all my Brothers that Never got a Welcome Home.
Welcome Home Dennis! Thank you for your Bravery, Courage and Service. Thank you for living and being the message of this timeless masterpiece. God Bless you always!
Well, it's April 8, 2024...The year of the Solar Eclipse. Everybody looked so "together" watching this. I'm 75 years old, and a Vietnam Vet. Who here remembers this song, and loves it as much as I do? It is SO appropriate, I think.
One of the best songs ever. Love the 60's songs and this is one of the best. The words hit everyone in one way or another. At 70 this is one of the songs I never ever get tired of hearing. Blessings to everyone 😊
When I looked this song up because of a recommendation I wasn’t sure what it was. I recognized it right away. Love a lot of the 60s music. I am 54 and I am very familiar with this song.
i saw this performed live around 1968 in the bay area , california . the youngbloods were on stage and someone came up and whispered something in Jessie's ear . He broke out into a huge smile and began to sing . near the end of the song he began to cry . he had just found out that his wife has given birth to their first child . it was the most emotional performance of this song i have ever heard.
Yes, very lucky . the concert was outdoors in a fenced area . it became a free concert because there was a hole in the fence where many people snuck in . the security didn't care . it was very relaxed and loose in those days . The Doors and some other groups were there also . it was fantastic . i'll never forget it.
Some may come and some may go We shall surely pass When the one that left us here Returns for us at last We are but a moment's sunlight Fading in the grass Come on people now Smile on your brother Everybody get together Try to love one another Right now

I was an 18 year old girl in high school and all the boys we hung around with got drafted. They were all excited about going to Vietnam and "kick ass". Only 2 came back ; one hooked on heroin, the other committed suicide. The rest we couldn't even bury as there were no remains. I remember seeing them off, one by one, as they left. i could only imagine being alive in the 60’s to 80’s. Musicians with actual talent displaying their beautiful works of art. Thank you The Youngbloods, this song is timeless and will never be forgotten.
It's not just your imagination. Those were great times for music. And music was much more appreciated in those days, that's why people had hi-fis and expensive stereos. Because there wasn't any internet, video games, or social media, people turned to music for entertainment, and it was a bigger part of our lives.
To all out there thank you for your warm wishes and please don't feel sorry for your Vietnam vets we served with pride and took care of each other. We made things better for other veterans that served after us as we promised that they will never be treated like we were GUESS WHAT WE KEPT OUR PROMISE. 🙏
My brother was a nam vet I’m a vet of the Cold War I am so very sorry for the way you were treated the people who didn’t go have no clue what you endured . Keep your heads high !
War is Hell. Born in 1967,I am old enough to remember Nixon and the war"ending", but mostly staring at the pictures on the mantles of Aunts and Uncles , of their sons, teens in their dress uniforms, formal photographs, flag backdrops, the stoic faces, of the older cousins I never got to meet. I am saddened by all those losses even today. Let the next words never become cliche toward any vet... "Thank you for your service"
You know my Brother joined the Army, because of people like you. At the time I thought it was because he got married and was starting a family. But we were talking about it the other day. That's not why he joined. He's older than me and as a child I didn't know what war was. I found out about it a few years later. And what the people did to our Vietnam Veterans and I was outraged. That was why my Brother enlisted. He couldn't stand the way the Veterans were treated. He stayed in the Army until he retired. He was in the Gulf War. I was so glad when he retired. Most of the time I didn't know where he was or what he was doing. He doesn't talk about it much. But there were just a couple of things he told me about. One when he was deployed to the demilitarized zone over in South Korea. And something else that happened when he was in the Gulf War. I really do want to thank you. My Brother-in-law was in the Vietnam War. And to think of that kind, gentle soul being put through that when he came home, broke my heart. He fit into our family so well. He's passed away but I know he is with my Sister who passed away a year before him. May God Bless you, Sir.
Nixon ended Vietnam after over 16 years and They called him a bad President because someone tapped a democrats phone...Obama Taped every phone in USA and no said a GD thing!eho's the worst president?
Play this on my guitar 🎸 & sing it. Volunteer here in Tucson helping Vietnam Veterans get their disability Compensation. Did you know there are 5 different types of "Agent-Orange?" Welcome home my brave & honorable Vets.
Being as objective as I possibly can, we had the best music of any generation, which would be the baby boomers, ie late 50’s through the 70’s. Just think of all the great groups that came through while we were in junior high through college plus a couple years after. This was definitely one of them. We have been truly blessed with the music we grew up with. Thank you God.
You got that straight, spot on the mark. This song still sounds as good today then 70 years ago. All baby boomers grew up in this countrys much better days we truly had it all something our youth of today couldn't begin to grasp or understand 4:41 d😊😊😊
Tough to argue but the 80's & 90's give it a run for their Money but Absolutely Great Music and Times from what I have heard. My Pop's Vietnam Veteran would 100% agree with you...Stay BLESSED and keep on Rocking in the Free World 🙏♥️🙌💪☘️✌️
Even at 7years old I remember this playing on am radio. I've loved this song my whole life. It makes me sad that the world no longer loves but hates. May God bless you all.
I've loved this song my whole life, too. I'm in my late 50s so I remember it from when I was a kid. It makes me melancholy in a way but I still play it sometimes when I need encouragement. I try to imagine people actually heeding what the lyrics say. Great song all the way around.
Released in 1967, fell off the charts after a few weeks; released again in 1969 around Woodstock Festival, this time the world was ready for this sensational song.
I remember both releases, was a one of a kind song. You just don't forget a song with such memorable sound and lyrics. The second release got it's true justice.
I graduated from high school in 1969 and went to work that summer on a construction job building apartments. I spent the entire day, day after day listening to the local AM rock station WCOL in Columbus, Ohio. This was one of the songs I heard so often that I got tired of hearing it. Two others were _Spinning Wheel_ by Blood Sweat and Tears and _Honky Tonk Woman_ by The Stones.
With all the turmoil and our political world right now, I ask that everyone listens to this song and then pass it on to someone you know and have them pass it on and on and on. Our country needs to heal. We need to come together and try to love one another. God bless
4:38 I saw this band from what I recall in the late seventies in Manchester New Hampshire. They had concerts in a parking lot under a bridge it was a Rainy Night not many people showed up. the band invited the small crowd up onto the stage. I sat 10 ft from the singer while he performed this song. It is a memory I will cherish forever. I brought this album with me and Jesse Colin Young autographed it. I am 67 now and I still have the album.
I remember as a kid seeing the blue oyster cult there. My brother says it never happened but I distinctly remember the bridge and I know it was in Manchester do you remember the name of the park
Omg ...I remember being in the back seat of my older brothers car, it was a purple roadrunner, and the window's were down and it was a beautiful sunny day. He had to leave for Vietnam the next day. This brings back so many feelings and memories of that time in my life. Beautiful song and so heart felt 💓 I used to go into my brother's closet when he was in Vietnam and smell his clothes because I missed him so much. I remember my mother crying when the news came on every night. He is gone now. This song " remembers when ".
The LAST sentence of your comment made me REMEMBER something. I understand WHY you like "Get Together" by The Youngbloods so much; SO DO I!! The song "Remember When" by Alan Jackson is like that too!! My little sister had "Remember When" by Alan Jackson played at our Dad's funeral!! It's a real 'Tear-Jerker'!!
I remember the summer of 72. After work I went over to a customer, friend, acquaintance, and while waiting I watched on TV an F4 Phantom doing a ground attack. I thought, this time next year I’ll be there. Missed it by days.
I've seen pictures of Peru, looks so beautiful. Watch the video of El Condor Pasa - Paul Simon & Garfunkel, video by arqags79 Look how happy the people look, how beautiful the country looks!
I saw The Youngbloods at a small hall in Boston in 1969. When they sang this song, it was magical! So beautiful, still gives me the chills. I’ll play it for my young grandchildren today. 🎶☮️🕊🙏🏻
@@dustythe2nd188 I hear you, but we have to try. We have to guarantee some kind of a future. I believe we all want the same things: home, family, food, security, a future.

Get Together Love is but a song we sing And fear's the way we die You can make the mountains ring Or make the angels cry Though the bird is on the wing And you may not know why C'mon people now Smile on your brother Ev'rybody get together Try to love one another right now Some will come and some will go And we shall surely pass When the one that left us here Returns for us at last We are but a moment's sunlight Fading in the grass C'mon people now Smile on your brother Ev'rybody get together Try to love one another right now If you hear the song I sing You will understand (listen) You hold the key to love and fear In your trembling hand Just one key unlocks them both It's there at your command C'mon people now Smile on your brother Ev'rybody get together Try to love one another right now
I'm 58 seeing people who are dear to me going to heaven 1 by 1 and it's getting challenging down here without them. This song is a reminder to be strong like they were and keep a pure heart open to love.
This is truly a timeless classic. I grew up in the sixties. Tumultuous times. May you be forever young in your heart. I come back here to listen one more time. This makes me reflect on old friends. Some are here, and others gone forever.
I have always been fascinated by the sixties. It would be very interesting talking to someone who was around in america by that time. Im born. in 1979 in sweden myself. The music from the sixties is the best music in my opinion and the whole era really fascinates me.
“We are but a moment’s sunlight fading in the grass”. So very true, it all goes so fast. Was diagnosed stage IV liver cancer this week. Have left instructions to have this played at my funeral. Do as the song says “love one another”. Love your family…your friends…your neighbor. Peace
Written in 1963--very far ahead of its time. Dino Valenti (Chet Powers) said the lyric "when the wind that left us here" was changed to "when the one who left us here" by The Youngbloods. Valenti meant the word "wind" apparently to refer to the cosmic wind which implies a supreme being. The Youngbloods' word "one" directly refers to God. Two means of expressing the same concept.
I’m 72 at this writing and hearing this song floods me with nostalgia for that incredible time music history. Emotions well up with a longing for happiness that this music brought to my heart.
@@jefferycastle7366yes! Unfortunately for a long time I didn't really listen to some of the lyrics..and then recently it hit me like a brick...it's about Jesus coming back
I WANT TO THANK all of you for your well wishes and kind words about Your Vietnam Vets .We wish those words welcomed us home.Things have changed over the years and many people I come across Say WELCOME HOME TODAY THAT BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES.THIS SONG BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF THOSE YEARS.
A good friend of mine in 1969 took a trip with me to Sacramento, CA and we stayed at a house for a few days. Imagine my surprise when he introduced me to his Uncle, Jesse Colin Young. . . lead singer for the Youngbloods and the home we were at was his home. Always liked the Youngbloods, before and after meeting him.
Had a singer perform this at my husband’s funeral. We all sang the chorus together. It will be played and sung at my funeral one day. We were/are ministers. This song is very spiritual.
I joined the Army in 1979. I thank my mom for playing FM radio when my dad traveled. She shaped my taste in music that has lasted a lifetime. God Bless all the Vets for their service even those who were part of Reagens secret war like me.
@@billgonzales8978 I was there I think I would know. Just youtube reagens secet war and watch. Historians call it this and again I was there. Sorry please get informed.
I am not talking about NAM misguided person I am talking about the war with el salvador and costa rica in the 1980's. Damn you better get with the real world. I joined in 1979 and went to war in central america in 1981 to 1985. Dont tell me what I served numbskull. Thank for your service, now thank me for mine since you know nothing about my service, I know all about yours. Do yourself a favor and youtube reagans secret war and watch it. Then maybe you will stop being misguided and LEARN SOMETHING. Vietnam wasnt the only betrayal from the republican party so was Reagens secret war. Dont disparage my service again. YOUR SHAMEFUL, I would never disparage another soldiers sacrafice. I listened to those same songs you listened to just in another fox hole in another country.
I love the sound of this Youngbloods original mix. Takes me back to my radio days. Love is the answer. It was true in the sixties, now and will be forever.
What I like jamming out to sixties tunes is there arent any weirdos saying its woke etc....just people like me remembering the innocence of youth and believing that times were better. Maybe they were but we cant go back all we can do is listen to these songs that ignite our memories for a little while. Days gone by not never forgotten!!!
I was on a concert committee at the University of South Carolina. The committee was called Contemporary sounds. Me and this gal drove across Columbia to sign this act. It was the drummer of the Youngbloods and his wife.
Yes, and amazing how his strongest followers want to turn away refugees, persecute people not like them, ignore the poor, and not render under Caesar what it Caesar's. Why, you'd think those people created God in THEIR image to hate all the people and things they do!
@@bradkay After losing a brother in Vietnam and my father being away from home serving in Vietnam, I know the cost of hate. I also have another brother who served as I did also. It did not take me long to see the suffering of people while our country stood by and turned a blind eye to the killings that were taking place in the former Rhodesia. God Bless you my Brother in Christ!
I LOVE THIS CLASSIC 60'S SOUND. THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THE SOUND THAT I CANNOT DESCRIBE BUT YOU KNOW IT'S THE 60'S WHEN YOU HEAR THOSE INSTRUMENTS AND THAT VOICE.

Estoy de acuerdo con usted.Hermosos recuerdos de mi juventud, yo también tengo 71 años.

Thank you for what you did for our country
@@debbieweber8314 They were exploited by the country. I don't thank them for that. I apologize for it.
When the young people of the sixties called for peace, harmony, and brotherhood, they really MEANT it.

You're very welcome. 1971, Phan Rang Airbase, South Vietnam...

Amen Brother
You got that straight, spot on the mark. This song still sounds as good today then 70 years ago. All baby boomers grew up in this countrys much better days we truly had it all something our youth of today couldn't begin to grasp or understand 4:41 d😊😊😊

It makes me melancholy in a way but I still play it sometimes when I need encouragement. I try to imagine people actually heeding what the lyrics say. Great song all the way around.
❤️🌸🇨🇦 70yrs. Old and That’s still one my Favourite songs 🌸❤️🇨🇦
Released in 1967, fell off the charts after a few weeks; released again in 1969 around Woodstock Festival, this time the world was ready for this sensational song.
I remember both releases, was a one of a kind song. You just don't forget a song with such memorable sound and lyrics. The second release got it's true justice.
1966
I graduated from high school in 1969 and went to work that summer on a construction job building apartments. I spent the entire day, day after day listening to the local AM rock station WCOL in Columbus, Ohio. This was one of the songs I heard so often that I got tired of hearing it. Two others were _Spinning Wheel_ by Blood Sweat and Tears and _Honky Tonk Woman_ by The Stones.

Still crying for all victims of violence and war. Please remember to be kind to everyone. Be the best.
I don't remember the name of the park but it was under bridge Street Bridge
Omg ...I remember being in the back seat of my older brothers car, it was a purple roadrunner, and the window's were down and it was a beautiful sunny day. He had to leave for Vietnam the next day. This brings back so many feelings and memories of that time in my life. Beautiful song and so heart felt 💓 I used to go into my brother's closet when he was in Vietnam and smell his clothes because I missed him so much. I remember my mother crying when the news came on every night. He is gone now. This song " remembers when ".
It was a senseless war, not that wars make sense.

Get Together
Love is but a song we sing
And fear's the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Some will come and some will go
And we shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
Fading in the grass
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now
If you hear the song I sing
You will understand (listen)
You hold the key to love and fear
In your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at your command
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Pure musical poetry. The golden age of song writing.
Yes! Damn I miss those days
This was ahead of it’s time
Written in 1963--very far ahead of its time.
When the One who left us here returns for us at last ❤
