It’s so embarrassingly *stupid* how much time I waste on my phone. It’s ultimately idolatry- no way around it. I’ve become so ADHD obsessive with needing to listen to a podcast, need to have music playing, need to have an audiobook playing- anything but being alone with my own thoughts (heaven forbid!) Time to grow up and do the work. The Word of God is real spiritual food and water and necessary for sanctification. It

So relatable!! I dislike how I’ve emphasized accessibility in these things as-well..it just feeds my impulse for stimulation too 😭
Amen. Temperance is one of the gifts of the grace of God. All we have to do is ask, and he gives it to us. We have the victory, beloved, and we have overcome.
If you have ADHD then of course you seak stimulation, I'm the same way because I have it, it's nothing to be ashamed of, just learn to cope with it or get on medication

I deleted the social media on my phone maybe about 6 months ago and it was an amazing decision led by the Holy Spirt. The phone addiction was becoming a real problem in my life and would end up draining me and like Alex said, filling my mind with information that was not significant unlike the glory of God. It was very hard at first, just like any addiction you are trying to get off of, but also like Alex said, it will only truly work if you are doing it for the Glory of God and have your eyes on him. I have learned to replace the scrolling with Bible time, prayer, music, and deep thinking which have been great for me in my walk. You really find out how present God is in our life and how much he wants to spend time with you if you do this. If this is for you, I strongly encourage taking the leap that God is calling you too❤

I literally deleted the social media apps off my phone bc it’s so addicting and I find myself straying away from God as a result of it. The Holy Spirit always convicts me!
I literally just got done praying for help with my phone addiction, get on the computer to watch a video while i eat lunch and I see this. God is so good.
So convicting, thanks our Lord, and pray that God will destroy all idolatry we seek.

Your attention span starts with what interests you and what you love. God can fix that. There is nothing he can't do, if you believe.

I’ve been one month free from instagram and TikTok and it’s been easier to be off my phone. The time I spent scrolling I can spend it reading, learning, hearing and growing in the word of God. I still need get off my phone more recently but this gave me another perspective amen
I'm grateful for a such a reminder. I was on facebook for hours yesterday after I had just uploaded a video of mine. I was happy with the number of views I got in a short while, and it kept me on facebook longer than I use to. At the end of the day, I felt empty and unfulfilled because, I knew that guinue Joy doesn't come from scrolling through my phone or the number of views I had gotten. Thank you pastor for allowing God to speak through you to me.

I’ve also been dealing with fomo! At my job everybody goes out to hangout and party and I always feel tempted to involve myself with that but I know it won’t satisfy me at the end. I’m either going to hear a conversation that’s not very positive or be forced to be around drinking and smoking like I have in the past . It’s hard for me in the moment but afterwards I look at It and God saved me from things that legit would make me feel bad for doing .

This convicted me so hard. I prayed recently asking god to show me what is creating distance between us. Then I had a dream I think god was showing me. Now this, thank you Alex for all that you do. I’m greatful god speaks a good word through you.

UA-cam and Facebook. Wash, rinse, repeat. Alex you are a Godsend. While the phone itself or more to the point the access it provides… that in itself I do not think is bad or evil. But what we do with it is. I’m at an average 8+ hours a day. Shameful. And also lacking in contentment with God. It can be good… it’s how I watch your channel… but I let it take over. Because I am looking for an escape from trials and tribulations, and there are MANY in my life right now. I am looking for something that makes me happy. So then what/who really makes me happy and is the center of my joy???

This strongly reminds me of a guest sermon I gave at my own church some years ago, in which I used the same story from Matthew as well as some verses from Ecclesiastes. The addiction situation can apply not just to phones but also to any device with social media/internet access.

As more apps deliver content in new ways designed to keep people's attention for longer (TikTok, Instagram reels, UA-cam shorts), it can be easy to spend hours each day on a phone, without realizing.

I think this spoke to me about a different thing, but same concept, biblically. I often idolize certain hobbies and I get frustrated or down if I don’t have time to enjoy them, sometimes. And oftentimes I realize that I’d rather do that than read the Word of God. This video was very convicting and helpful for me.

what helped me was reading my Bible before picking up my phone in the morning as GOD JESUS CHRIST would pray early in the morning to our HOLY FATHER we are to do the same! wake up early and intentionally pray and read your BIBLE! be trained by discipline to follow GOD faithfully, Hebrews 12 , in the HOLY NAME of GOD JESUS CHRIST you got this AMEN!

UA-cam is always the most addicting for me. And Facebook and Reddit when I let it. I’m going to uninstall my UA-cam app and reuninstall Facebook. Thank you Alex. I need the glory of God. Thank you for the word and the reminder that I fall short. So I praise God that His grace abounds.
entertainment comes and goes
Seeing this video 3 days later. Last week I decided to delete my main time wasters, YT and IG.
What I found was that I was spending more time browsing other social media that I had.
The last few days I've been wondering why. Had the urge to download YT again and did. This was one of the first videos that came up.
All glory to God. Pray for one another that we as followers of Christ may break free of this and walk into a true relationship with him.

Phone addiction is real it’s more like drugs I swear! Thank God he delivered me last year from phone addiction.
What are some tips that has helped you through it? What habits did you do instead of using your phone?
@@SaucyCow19 I started by deleting Ticktok and Instagram, when I get to UA-cam I make sure I don’t want shorts. I learnt how to garden 🪴

I'd caution you to check with God first, if only because it would seem better to you to have checked with his will for your life than to say, "I know what I need to do to get closer to God."
