      Agree with you 100%. Our current gov administration is f'ed. Those of us who served overseas, have watched in disbelief as all we fought for, was pissed away by a f@$%&n president with the mental capacity of an angle worm. Worse, is those that support such people. Keep up the great fight & Hooyah brother. This nation needs more awareness such as this. Tremendous thanks.

      @Shuan Ryan Show you should definitely get whistle-blower Jeffrey Prather on the show. He's former Special forces and D.I.A and DEA agent. He was fired one year before his retirement because he exposed the corruption inside the agency. He has an incredible story and he is a great American patriot.

    What’s amazing about this show, is that you are hearing history from the people who were there, not in a book years later when it’s been diluted or stained due to someone else bias or views. There are only a few who are doing this, and as a history lover myself, it’s much appreciated. Not only that, it’s things that people need to hear. What’s really going on. People need to wake up….anyway! Time to get some! 👊🏼

      Speaking from personal experience, and this is not a knock on any other unit or individual, but Green Berets are always some of the smartest dudes in any room they stand in anywhere on the planet.
      Twenty years ago, to even attempt to be an 18X you needed an 88 on the ASVAB with a language test score in the top 25%, get vetted for a top secret clearance, pass a basic psych evaluation & a perfect on at least 2/3 Pt test categories at the time: push-up, sit-up, run. That’s simply to qualify for the contract. Not many other SOF units at the time if any had such high standards, specifically educational standards.
      When I got to basic training I was put into one of the few 18X & RIP only contract units. There were approximately 150 across 3 platoons. We went to basic, AIT & jump school together. 50% already had a bachelors degree (& didn’t go to OCS), 25% with some college & the rest were smart, but generally 17-18 going to RIP who didn’t get the opportunity to yet seek higher education.
      Can only think of a handful of people who washed out or failed anything prior to SOPC-1 or SFAS, because of intelligence, failing pen & paper tests, etc. When people started to drop like flies it was more often an injury, private matter or poor land navigation skills. Green Berets are a different breed. Door stomping looks cool and gets all the attention, but it requires a different breed of soldier to calmly walk into a room in a foreign country often behind enemy lines to convince basically a total stranger to trust you with their lives and vice versa.

    • @jamesdean3474
      @jamesdean3474 Рік тому

      When I went to selection in 94, minimum GT score had to be 110. The SF community took the Q- Course Star land navigation test and inserted it into SF Selection, which weeded out a lot good soldiers.

    • @creaturesofqueens
      @creaturesofqueens Рік тому

      @@jamesdean3474 In 03-04 same thing. Believe it was an 88 on the ASVAB, 110 GT and high placement on the language test. The language test is a trip. It’s all based on a fake language that you need to recognize patterns. The test administrator left the room confident no one would try to cheat. At one point everyone looked around and asked each other wtf is going with these language rules. I did my best and somehow qualified for all languages and they wanted me to learn either Urdu, Russian &/or Chinese. Those academic benchmarks just get you in the door.

    I was in Afghanistan with the 82nd in 19-20 and got a tbi from a vbied that changed my life forever. I was in tears from this book multiple times. The conflicted feeling of the boys doing what we do to save who we can and the government just giving up and the public not giving a damn leaves me with the feeling of “what was this all for?”

      I feel ya man, sucks thinking of the men/women we lost. Service members hit with catastrophic hits, or burned alive. Suicides left and right. My first NCO that took me over as a PVT, suicide with two little kids to grow up without her. They may see this on the news in the future and their mother fought to keep them safe. Civilians hurt or killed, victims of the conflict. Friends have TBI before it became recognized, suicides, domestic violence etc all while the NFL gets a movie on CTE. Changed their lives and their families lives forever. We get to live with it for the rest of our lives. I was totally burnt out from war, and believed the conflict drained us as a nation. Many of us were messaged by old Afghan friends, interpreters during the pull out, asking for help. Becoming friends on Facebook, watching each others families grow from across the world after relationships built over previous deployments and they were abandoned. The thought of something happening to send my kids back to a conflict I served in over 14 years is a let down. My oldest is now an adult, my kids could face this later. All for absolutely nothing. The ones making the decisions don't have the thoughts or memories of that battlefield. Mentally takes a toll on you.

    Thank you, Shawn for interviewing one of my biggest heroes, Scott Mann! As a Gold Star Mom whose son, SrA Daniel James Johnson who was KIA in Afghanistan, Scott's relentless support for our Afghan allies through Operation Pineapple Express, brings incredible comfort to my broken heart. Scott has taken me under his wing and coached me in the art of storytelling in the service of others which has restored meaning and purpose in my life following the most traumatic event of my life.
    I am so grateful to have found you too, through Scott. I am truly looking forward to watching more of your poscasts! Everything that I have seen thus far links up closely with my perspective and belief system. Thank you for all you have done for our country and are continuing to accomplish.

    Damn Shawn, you've kept me a good 6 months ahead of most people I run into by just listening to your channel. Dating all the way from the issue last year in Afghanistan, issues at the Long Beach Terminal, Cartels and the fentanyl influence. Like bro you're on point, great interviewer, real stories from Tier 1 guys about firefights and the mental health issues they go through.
    Found your channel by luck cause of an old social anxiety video you did, thank you as a brother, some of these stories have kept my mind from really dark places. Gracias

      This doesnt make any sense, no offence. Unless youre talking about something on Patreon, I dont understand what youre saying because they are not breaking any news. Maybe you should follow a group of respected journalists on a social media platform of your choice to stay up to date with current events as they happen.

    • @henrygonzalez360

      @@JRsmith. bro what I'm saying is that for the most part he was 6 months ahead of mainstream media regarding the quick collapse of Afghanistan, our issues at international shipping terminals being behind weeks, and the possible invasion of Ukraine back when Russia claimed they were "training exercises". Shit the list goes on. And like I said in the prior post I've heard many podcast interviews of Tier 1 guys and nobody opens up like they do on Shawn's show.
      Hope that clears things up.

      @@henrygonzalez360Didnt want to offend you at all brother I just dont agree with being ahead of the curve on current events. However, I do agree with Shawn being able to get operators to open up unlike other podcasts do. I think that speaks to the respect Shawn has from peers, and the quality of interviewing / production.
      Although twitter is usually a cesspool of negativity there are a lot of respected journalists on there trying there best. Glenn Greenwald for example. Substack / rumble also emerging platforms for journalists.

    This podcast needs to be heard and broadcast to literally every person with two ears in America. As an Army veteran myself it was a literal spit in my face it felt like how everything went down and how not only did we leave everything behind and get pulled out in the worst way possible but then how our government not only turned their backs on our brothers in arms over there that fought right beside us. Then pushed that responsibility off on the people who've already given almost everything already.

    Excellent, excellent, excellent episode, well done!!! LTC Mann, you're a legend brother-- what you and the team did with OPE was nothing short of extraordinary.
    I was stuck sitting with my ERT waiting for the deployment order from the Company I was with when the crapshow that was the AFG pullout kicked off. Literally sitting in the Airport Parking lot waiting for the order, then what had to have been 3 or 4 hours later we got word that the State Dept. weren't letting us go in to help, straight blocked. Our Company had all our people and Dogs get on the flights out, and was forced to leave Millions in Weapons, Vehicles, Supplies, and other stuff that is now either destroyed or in the hands of the fvcking Taliban.
    Needless to say, but between losing brothers, peers, and friends in the 'stan, and the way it all went down in the end, I'm still furious about the whole situation, and I know many others feel the same way/ are in the same boat.
    For all of our brothers and sisters in arms who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the 'stan, we will never forget.
