This is something I dream to see in the United States. A country that focuses on educating their citizens instead of punishing them is a great country. Good for 🇮🇹 Italy!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
We need more programs like this in prisons in the US and in communities where kids can’t imagine their futures, so they don’t commit crimes in the first place.
Do you mean the Homicide person? Like the one's Democrats release every day and crossing our border presently? This is a poor excuse by the Democrats to blame the Victim and not the cites they maintain.
We do have certain programs, like there is a dog training program. Where inmates train dogs that have issues. Then eventually the dog gets rehomed to someone else outside in the real world. There is also some other classes people can take as well besides that one. There is a welding class offered and wood making.
I love the Italy stories. I think this demonstrates that a stable community with jobs that support our needs and some wants keeps it safer. Wishing them the best.
@@kenwoodburn5244 - If no one told you, white collar financial crimes have more impact and for generations. Just ask the victims of any Ponzi scheme and see how that turned out? Wall street commits more crimes by lunch time than the average inmate in any of these prisons. The number one relation that crime has is poverty. So before you judge and make it sound so simple, try volunteering your time with someone who has served time and hear their story.
It’s just a non sweet bread, maybe an egg bread taste, with a tiny amount of dried fruits (white n red raisins). I was never impressed You can probably get one marked down at your grocery store now that Christmas is over and try it.
I'm now enjoying one from Trader Joe's. Made in Italy and imported. It's quiet good, much better than the run of the mill ones finds in Italy in supermarkets. (But they aren't bad.)
@@cumberlandquiltchic1 You should try a good one. And they are not "just a a non sweet bread". Move upscale a bit. There are panatonnes loaded with excellent dried fruit. Panatonnes with chocolate centers. OK, time to get offline and go toast a piece for brunch.....
@@cumberlandquiltchic1 You probably tasted a panettone made from cheap ingredients bought at a local supermarket that cost about 10 dollars. A good panettone made by a master pastry chef with quality products is a totally different experience and it will cost you over 60 dollars.
This is such a great story! Giving people skills and pride in their work and ultimately themselves. It would be so great if these opportunities were given to young people before they ever did something that landed them in prison.
I wish every prison in the world would do something like this. Giving prisoners quality work and opportunities to re-enter society with a better work ethnic.
Great story. What better way to rehabilitate the convicted than by teaching them a useful skill which feeds a community and turns a profit. Love to see it. p.s. panettone is now a bucket list item. That thing looks too delicious.
We need to do better by our prisoners to find a future endeavour, so many of them didn't have a fair shot to start with. we have a huge elderly population of prisoners we need to find a new solution for
The piece mentions the inmates get paid, but I do hope it's the same amount as bakers who aren't behind bars. They do the same work, after all. If not, this feel good story can feel a bit exploitive.
If you like moist bread like pastries and orange or lemon marmalade/sweet orange liqueur, you'll love it. Walk into any supermarket and you'll see stacks of these cakes everywhere.
I live in Albuquerque, NM and I’ve never seen these in supermarket bakeries like Albertsons, Smiths, or Sprouts. I haven’t been to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s in years so maybe there. We also have a lot of mom and pop bakeries so maybe there.
Considering he disappeared in 1975, I am guessing you purchased it at Target --- their yogurt and some other foods are often well past the sell-by date.
To be fair, they don't have the same life expenses as non prisoner workers. The government is providing them with room, board, food, etc while a regular worker would have to pay for stuff like that on their own. Also, they have a debt to repay to society. I don't advocate that they be treated like slaves but I don't think they should get paid the same as a regular worker. Also, is some of the money these prisoners make going to their victims or the victims' families? They are not on a chain gang and they are learning a skill so I do have hope for this program.
This is fancy prison labor. What rights do the inmates have? What are they paid, especially compared to market wages? How do other bakeries (firms) compete?

Our system is built around corporate interest and money.
I highly doubt that they change the prison system in the U.S, they would call you a "Socialist" or a "Communist".

Anyone could work in prison, but those that are a continuing danger need to stay locked up.

America should do more of this kind of rehabilitation! Great story!
I do love a good panettone! And anything to keep inmates engaged and give them some practical work experience for when they get out is great!
I think this is an amazing concept and the panettone looks delicious too!
More stories like this pls
Thank you. Everything about this report is uplifting.
I work at Panera. Bakery work is very zen & very satisfying. Bravissimo gentlemen.
What a thoughtful and creative concept....a way to turn a negative into a positive....a second chance.
In Europe, prison is all about reform and rehabilitation. In America, prison is all about punishment and cruelty
You can't forget about Profit for private contractors in America.
Yes exactly. So don’t commit a crime and you won’t be punished. Simple

It's about money.
Such a "sweet" story. Great way to help someone become a much better person.
I cannot have Christmas with out m Paneton---- from Peru ! yes it comes from Italy but it migrated to our country and we love it
God Bless these men who are trying to help these people!!♥️
Seth Doane pronounces "Giotto" flawlessly.

Awesome story, I’ve never had this bread but I’ll definitely try it now. Thanks for sharing ❤
Bless you for opening your heart and business to these guys .
Love this ♥️ what forward thinking. Thank you
I really like this concept.
It's great to make french toast or bread pudding. I prepared it for breakfast on Christmas Eve day. Drizzle warm syrup over it yummy.
Bon Natale
Thank you.♥️
We need this in the US
All prisons in the world should do this. In California some prisoners become fire fighters. Amazing
Why doesn’t CBS interview the victims? Are we supposed to pity these inmates?

wow..yes more more programs...
This is a cool program. Panettone is also a staple in Peru.
Would love to try one of those
Fantastic story. This is a model for correctional facilities world wide.
What a great idea!!!♥️♥️♥️
Well, shiver me timbers! This was a great lil' news story.
Imagine putting a hopeful clause about incarceration in a constitution.
I’ve never even heard of panettone 😆 Now I want some.
It’s kinda weird ! It’s like a bread with fruit bits inside
Yeah I’ve never been impressed.

@@sammyp9514 it doesn't have anything in common with bread. It's sweet, like a plumcake, even if the ingredients are different.

what a great idea
I think the American analogue to this is Homeboy Bakery in Los Angeles with Greg Boyle SJ
I'm burning up.with anger right now.
I would go to prison to learn a skill like that.
Hmm, life after prison. Imagine that.
True prisoner reform ❤
Seth Doane was really like "How can I keep my American job and still be in Italy all the time"
Imagine if prisons did this with inmates in the US with farming and other necessary vital skills instead of making major corporations rich smh
I knew this prison serving sweets to inmates wasn't in the US
The moment I read the title
Buon Natale
si a tutti. e buon anno.
Changes my thinking. I thought they made license plates in prison. I had to edit. I should have known this wasn’t in the US.
Such a baby face. Hope the prisoner finds some redemption 🙏🏻
There is a lot of talent locked up. Give them something to do with all the time they are given.
I wish I had one of these in lemon....

This is the best bread
I was trying to buy one but they stopped selling it in safeway and now im jealous haha
Where can I buy one?

How much are the prisoners getting paid?
🤤🤤🤯
better than 🇺🇸
I like the program & intent over the panettone, tried one I got from fry's electronics years ago, not impressed.
I love this story. Is panettone more like a bread or a cake? I must know!
It' exactly in the middle..ciao e Buon Natale from Italy😁
Grazie Riccardo! I’m going to look for these in my city or have one shipped! Grazie friend!
Closer to a dry muffin.

@@thenightporter My panettone was a gift from Jane Pauley and that's one broad who is NOT a Target devotee!
What are they paying them? Are paying them less then non prisoner workers? Meaning are businesses taking advantage of their cheaper labor?
