There is a lit-crit book about the American author Mark Helprin in which the authors explore how Dante is central to most of Helprin's novels. I wonder if Vernon & Baxter have ever read Helprin?
The "H" in "Hell" (in English) ought to be upper-case, unless perhaps one intends to make a point of publicly rejecting it as a place and demoting it to a state of mind?
I'm interested in what the consequences for finding evil glamorous come from the infernalist theology from Augustine on. I think Christianity has been lost for so many due to it.
Prophet Esias and Jesus both tell us unequivocally: their worm dieth not & their fire is not quenched. The unholy resurrection unto damnation is not simply another falling asleep into nothingness, rather Jesus makes it the inverse of eternal life.
I ask - honestly and sincerely: is it really as simple as that (citing some scriptural “proof texts”)? Isn’t there something infinitely more enduring- I.e. that Love that never fails- and endureth all things? I could counter such verses that explicitly promise the restoration, recapitulation, reconciliation and renewal of ALL things… but would that settle the argument? The enigma that Scripture is leaves it to each of us to answer the soul searching question: Who do you say that I am? For me the answer is so simple and yet infinitely deep: You are Love! Blessings! wayne
@@MrHwaynefair You beg the question of the nature of "love." There is that common grace whereby the sun shines and rain falls on the good and the bad, the quick and the dead, but the love of God in the marriage bed of Christ and His Ekklesia is characterized by exclusivity. If it be spread abroad to all, even whores (after all) have such "love." But if it is precious like a diamond, then it is so in contrast to mountain of coal. Nay, there be those without who cannot be let in, and much weeping and gnashing of teeth. Sophia must know Theophobia prerequisite to Theophilia.
@@medicalmisinformation You God is too small... Your God is not "Love Himself" - He does not love the sinner and the ungodly. Your theology shuts the door to the God Who Is. He has no prodigal children. The ecclesia is the firstfruits of His Love - adumbrating the redemptive and sovereign Love He has for ALL- the full harvest. "If the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy". The unbelieving spouse is made holy by the believing - the principle is the same! The logic of His Wisdom goes well beyond the limits of your theology - He shuts up ALL unto disobedience. Why? In order that He may have mercy on ALL❤ I am so glad that Jesus loved whores (as Hosea prophetically exemplifies) - and even people like me! May God have mercy on you and your "theology" - but, especially, may He have mercy on me. I will give you the last word....
Really enjoyed this conversation. Thank you both

i always found it funny that ''abbandon all hope who enter'' and virgil is like thats the path to heaven
The gates also say, I was built from divine love...

You're right. Tis a place and state of mind, I reckon.

I suspect you're right, though post-Augustinian ideas are foul, too - penal substitution etc...
Is Jason planning to translate “Purgatory” and “Paradisio?”
At the end he says he'd like to...
