    2 Samuel 13:1-17 (ESV)
    Amnon and Tamar
13 Now Absalom, David's son, had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar. And after a time Amnon, David's son, loved her. 2 And Amnon was so tormented that he made himself ill because of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything to her. 3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother. And Jonadab was a very crafty man. 4 And he said to him, “O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.” 5 Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’” 6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. And when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.”
7 Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Go to your brother Amnon's house and prepare food for him.” 8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house, where he was lying down. And she took dough and kneaded it and made cakes in his sight and baked the cakes. 9 And she took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, “Send out everyone from me.” So everyone went out from him. 10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the cakes she had made and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. 11 But when she brought them near him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me, my sister.” 12 She answered him, “No, my brother, do not violate[a] me, for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do this outrageous thing. 13 As for me, where could I carry my shame? And as for you, you would be as one of the outrageous fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.” 14 But he would not listen to her, and being stronger than she, he violated her and lay with her.
15 Then Amnon hated her with very great hatred, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, “Get up! Go!” 16 But she said to him, “No, my brother, for this wrong in sending me away is greater than the other that you did to me.”[b] But he would not listen to her. 17 He called the young man who served him and said, “Put this woman out of my presence and bolt the door after her.”

This Bible study is so awesome. I thought it interesting how God used the word crafty to describe Ammnon’s cousin because it’s the same word used to describe the serpent or the beast in Genesis three, and as far as I know, there has not been another descriptor using the word crafty. What I learned from this is that just like God puts people in my life to accomplish his will, likewise does the enemy, and in this case, Ammnon’s crafty cousin was in place to facilitate his unlawful and indecent desire for his sister. Thank you Pastor Daniel for being such an awesome teacher.

You know I read this story last night and I cried so much I told God that I hate it and I don't know why he included it in the bible. I already hate the story of Bathsheba and when I saw this was the next story I had to compose myself for a few minutes before I could read it. My heart bleeds for Tamar and Bathsheba. Every time I listen to a bible study on this text I feel like people never focus enough on how horrific this was to Tamar. They gloss over it but focus on how David's sin came back to haunt him. Which I know is true but they almost absolve Ammnon for the part he played in this sin. Thank you for mentioning so many things that I had never thought of before and thank you for bringing justice to Tamar.

To provide some explanation of the steps Amnon took to lure Tamarin into a trap, I would like to provide some psychology. In criminology there is something called a dilect chain. It is a kind of spiral that takes the steps to prepare and actually commit the crime and this is completely reflected in this. We see how this dilectic chain of events/situations transitions to feelings and moods - train of thought and fantasy - preparatory actions - apparently unimportant decisions that you make or allow others to make - the crime itself which then returns to the feelings and moods created by the events are . And this is why it's called a chain

Fathers can learn from David; be watchful in your household and discipline your wicked and deceiving kids. See Proverbs 23:13
For Tamar to say that David would've given her to Amnon shows that he gave him everything he wanted and let Amnon hang out with the wrong crowd (that friend was into perverted things to come up with a plan like that). Perhaps David gave Amnon too much freedom at his age, or maybe he was passive or too busy not spending enough time with his kids. Parents, don't overlook the signs. Learn from your own past. Make your kids spend more time with you even if they fret. Take more time to be with them. The Lord will provide for you. Trust in Him. Don't be so quick to hand your children over to other households. Tamar didn't know how to defend herself. She should've ran out of there. No one believes these things can happen in their own household, but we see these things still happen today. Guard your households. Talk to your children. Sin crouches at the door. Even in the house of an anointed king.

Did you not read where it did because Amnon was stronger than her he overpowered her? Even if she tried to run away he had already grabbed her. I know it was not your intention but what you said sounds a lot like victim blaming.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Someone asked ... "Did Jesus promise Judas Iscariot?"
Okay, firstly the answer is no. The reason is because Jesus made it abundantly clear what the fate of Judas was: "The Son of Man is to go, just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.” (Matthew 26:24).
Secondly, we also note that when the disciples pick a new apostle they give over all his rights of inheritance to Matthias (Acts 1:15-26). So, everything that would have been Judas' is passed on to another.
