Dominic Puni didnt allow a sack over his past 1600 snaps. This is a huge pick

Nugent is also decent but we have neglected the O Line for a while

He played OG n OT. Did well. But because of shorter arms, projected to be an OG. Niners need better R-OG, he could help. But, OT Williams replacement is probably a bigger need. He's 35. He could retire anytime.

I agree with your sentiments. I found it frustrating that they would take an RB (we've got 3 good ones already) and two WRs (one in the first round??) - when we're already stacked there. They made all kinds of moves to revamp the defensive side of the ball pre-draft, but yet again drafted too many skill positions with their (most valuable) picks. Imo, this draft was a D - not because the players aren't good (nobody knows the answer to that yet), but because they ignored positional needs. Last season the offensive line play was frankly bad for a team with SB win-now ambitions. Purdy according to PFF was under pressure 39% of the time during the season, well above league average; other than Trent, none of the team's Olinemen rank well individually, esp in pass protection. How can Lynch and Shanahan think it's a good thing to go into next season with the same dudes in the trenches? I'm frustrated and baffled, and if Purdy is injured again due to crap protection I'm going to fudging flip on both of them.

The teams that consistently have good lines are constantly drafting OL. I didn't realize that the pressure rate was that high. From watching all the games it felt like it but didn't realize it was 39 percent. That is awful. It also shows how great Purdy is in spite of all of that.

I would draft nothing but offensive lineman for a years draft class. 2 Tackle, 2 Guards, 1 center. Get them all young and let them develop and 2 to 3 years you start seeing results.

😂 Agree. While Pearsall is a good receiver, the O-line is the biggest weakness. Rank #20-28. Brock's mobility n quick processing helped it from possibilty ranking worse. Williams is 36 yrs old. Could retire soon, wouldn't it be better if his replacement is learning from him. The center n right side of the O-line is avg. Kyle/Niners used to build D-line thru draft. Now, they tweak thru FAs n trades. Can guys on 1-2 yr deal mesh n build chemistry. Hopefully, a new DC n assistant HC can help. With Armstead gone, where is the leadership. Niners let good players go, to get picks, preferring not to pay up. But has the draft choices turned out. Defense ranked #12 last yr. Couldn't stop run. Hargrave wasn't the force, they thought he would be. While Niners did address the O-line later, more OG types. Good OT are in short supply in draft. While WR can be found in whole draft, Niners got Cowing late. Head scratching, Niners traded pick with their SB rival, who took a OT. WtF? Brock's been good with blitz. But Chiefs used press coverage too. Looks like they blitz too from LB n S. So, how does another WR, helps against O-line weakness. Brock can't throw if he doesn't have time. But where was the genius schemer? Chiefs showed their hand, what was the Niner counter? Get another WR? Aiyuk got only a few targets in SB. Kyle has loss 2 SB to the same team, granted rosters were different. But Kyle loss another SB, as Atlanta OC. Weird, in Atlanta, Kyle was aggressive, when running out the clock would be better. With Niners, Kyle been conservative, using more runs. Hope, Kyle doesn't becomes this era, Bills Levy, who loss 4 SB, with JKelly. Niners might be more, lucky than right. Mess up with Trey pick, but found Brock. Seem to be fixated on winning now. But could have added foundation players for longterm, than quick fixes. At least they haven't paid for big time players on down side of their careers. But as my wife said, cheap things aren't good, good things aren't cheap. Hopefully, Niners found some gems in this draft, n some of previously drafted players push for starter role. Kyle has yo play backups more. Its a long season. This rest starters, many our older. This gives opportunities n experience to backups. Mason is suppose to be the power back. If going to play smash mouth, use him instead of Cmc. Kyle/Niners seem to favor vets. Oliver was kept for slot, but couldn't cover. If kept UFA Jamieson, could get cover n returner. Rebuilding team take chances on younger players. Niners are getting old, the SB window may be closing. Take chances on younger players. Other teams always grabbing players off Niners waivers or practice. Let camp battles begin.

  • @cbarrentine4264

The play you showed as the reason we lost a super bowl had nothing to do with the OL talent lol It was a blown protection. Yeah you can maybe put that on Brendel as the C has the ability to change the protection in Shanahan's offense, but it wasn't a talent issue. Really weird play to pick for your example.
This insistence that their lack of addressing the OL is some huge problem doesn't really hold up when you consider their success. They've been a consistent contender for years despite these constant claims that the offensive line is so bad and needs to be fixed or we'll never win anything. Those complaints have been here the whole time and yet they're a good team. Weird.
"The OL cost us the super bowl" The Defense did that. And the OL. and ST with the blocked XP. And the other team being good. And a ton of other factors. You can't just look at the OL and blame them for everything. The defense was far more at fault than the offensive unit that took the lead repeatedly.
Could we use an upgrade over McKivitz? yeah. Is it as important as you think? no. Every teams fans thinks their OL sucks and is holding them back unless they're a rare team with an elite unit.
"Brock wont have more than a second" Well that wasn't the case last year and it's the same line so.....
"They reach on all of their picks" ah they reached. The words of the very misguided folks who think the draft analysts know more than the NFL teams. most of the time when a team "reached" they took a player exactly where half the other teams had them. Especially if they trade up. They don't do that unless they have damn good reason to believe someone else is going to take that guy before them.
Teams that only draft their needs tend to be bad teams. It's reactionary. That is not smart roster building. You know why they took Cowing? Because he was at or near the top of their board when the selection came up, he can contribute immediately on special teams, and because Jennings and most likely Deebo are gone next year. Taking multiple WRs this year so they can know what they have and whether they need to add more to cover off the loss of two very good players next year. What if they let it wait til next year and the guy they pick to replace deebo sucks? They're future proofing the roster. Also they did add to the OL. You just weren't happy with the round.
This is a really lazy "I know better" take that really just comes across as you being upset they didn't pick the guys you wanted. Never watching another.
