I'm going to get a little picky here with the number 1 on the list and say that a 'system' of 20 escalators should not be considered as the longest escalator in the world. Longest escalator in the world implies, a single, unbroken escalator.
By all means, get picky with it. I thought the same thing. That's like someone saying they ran 5 straight miles, but stopped and walked 3 short times along the way. That's not how this works.
Surprised you didn’t mention the Bonneville Dam escalator given that it was longer than the German mall. The escalator at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. 164 ft long. Descends 66 ft (equivalent to a 6 story building). The ride takes about 90 seconds. My dad worked there (the second powerhouse) when I was a little kid and I remember at the time it was breaking records that was in 1982 but I think it’s still pretty long .
My sister in law's relative fell down an escalator and died. Incredibly sad. I've been on a few of these escalators and didn't like any of the experiences!
Escalators are cool for everyone except the handicapped. If you are using any kind of mobility aid and forget it if you are on a wheelchair or scooter. Now you want to make one that works for everyone, make one with large steps that can fit a wheelchair or scooter and a pause button so they can get on. If that is not feasible, at least have a elevator nearby and not in some far off corner on the other side of the building. Remember just because a person is mobility impaired, doesn't mean they have a scooter or wheelchair. Distance can be as much as a challenge.
These do exist, They are the same as a normal escalator however it features a moving ramp, although they do take up more horizontal space as you can’t go too steep of an angle.
Forest Glen, which is the next inbound stop from Wheaton, is so far underground, it doesn't even have escalators. It is elevator access only. Next stop inbound from Forest Glen, is Silver Spring, which is ELEVATED, so you can probably imagine how steep the track is.
1740 Kreschatic and next to it Arsenalna (in fact it is the deepest station in the whole former USSR, but it has double stage escalators with intermittent hall) stations are so deep not because they are bomb shelter, but because they are buried deep below the hill. Next station to the east Dnipro is outdoor, on metro bridge over Dnipro river, hight ABOVE ground. They could not make more step incline of the line to keep it closer to hill crest, so had to make such a weird deep stations, by any cost. 2313 its station and sign from Minsk metro, not SPB. The same name "Lenins Square", but different city, and now, after USSR fall, different country.
I used to take the Hong Kong Mid Levels Escalator System all the time soon after it opened. Individual escalators within it are not very long though. For that, I refer you to Ocean Park. Their cliffside escalators are very long. I don’t have details but they might rival others on your list.
I live in Russia, where a lot of these longest escalators were listed on, but I have been on the MARTA line in Atlanta, and was waiting to see Peachtree Center show up here myself. It really isn't that much shorter than the stations in Moscow are.
Do these places only have escalators or do they also have elevators? Because I'm seriously afraid of heights. So if there's no elevator, I'm not going. I refuse.
Dear Top 15. How about a list of top 15 most handicap accessible locations in the US or world with descriptions as tonhow they are accessible. We really need more awareness on this subject.
The research for this video was not good, e.g. a unique escalator in Hamburg/Germany, with 82m, is missing. Incidentally, the escalator in the Elbphilharmonie is the only one in the world with a convex curve and is not straight. ua-cam.com/video/ZB4brPqDmeQ/v-deo.html
...yeah but only after they build one to heaven first. Why?? Because what goes up, inevitably must come down, right?? It's not about good, bad or even religion.....it's about physics.😂 Oddly enough I never considered either trip being an escalator. I've had a different take on the means of travel to get to either one. Right before I'm about to do something in life that could end poorly, I think to myself, what I say or do next has a very high potential to put me in the carpool lane to hell. Fortunately, my actions to date haven't come with any "extended"travel plans, but will happen inevitably because we all gotta go sometime, right?? LOL!!

Are you a lady with stunningly long hair? I adore women who wear theirs that way, describe it please?

They said that on that mall there is an elevator that goes up to 3 floors directly without stopping at the middle floors
@@oriol108 That's not the escalator in question. I'm talking about the one in Hong Kong, that is made up of 20 escalators to form a system.

*Useless Fact:* Before Wheaton station opened (@4:43) Bethesda station was the longest escalator, measuring 212 feet/65 meters.
Falling back would suck

@complexgrafix Aww...thank you.
Those deep escalators are a intense experience

And people with luggage!
@@dulcinealee3933I believe elevators were around first and most places have them.

@An_Average_Brock is it called a travelator?

Peachtree Center Station downtown Atlanta.
I kept thinkin' of Porter Station, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its longest escalator is 143' long.

Atlanta Peachtree station should probably be one of these
At 190 feet, yes, it should have been.
Atlanta MARTA station PEACHTREE CENTER has to be as long and deep as some of these
I live in Russia, where a lot of these longest escalators were listed on, but I have been on the MARTA line in Atlanta, and was waiting to see Peachtree Center show up here myself. It really isn't that much shorter than the stations in Moscow are.
Peachtree Center is 190ft (with a depth of 120ft). Easily within this list.
In 1967, the world's longest escalator was in the US pavillon at the World's fair in Montréal, Québec.

The first escalator doesn't look as long as the one in the Granville St SkyTrain station in Vancouver.
I would learn to play the violin, just to play an intense song, and when I reach the top, it crescendos

AWESOME thought
Yeah this would be hard to decide around the world as some places prioritise this
8:23 His hat resembles that of the Mario character who’s associated with mushrooms.
The one in DC scared the hell out of me and I refused to go down it. Thank God there was an elevator.
I think the USSR had an obsession with long escalators.
It was so they could be shelters if there was war. This was also the case for Stockholms subway
In Barcelona, in Arenas Mall there is also a very long escalator !
No North Korea?
The longest in the western hemisphere is still the one at the Wheaton MD metro station.
Imagine how cramped one to heaven would be
No No!...your Number 1 is an amalgamation of walkways and escalators...not ONE SINGLE escalator...otherwise, fascinating stuff...dgp/uk
It’s ‘borough’ and why did you show Kings Cross station on the Angel bit?
The Hong Kong one, I've been on it.
This is the sort of pointless trivia I adore

@RECKLESSDRUG24 Slight misspelling here. I think you meant "SQUARE. "
Did Australia make it into the list???? We have many long & steep esculators and getting longer and steeper!
Esculators or travelors?
i think you need to do some more research as you have forgotten about The escalator on Tianyu Mountain in Zhejiang Province, China.
