  • Douglas is interviewed by Ralph Emery in between tunes. He then peforms Eric Anderson's tune Close The Door Lightly When You Go with his band. I just love the way they play this wonderful song. Such sweet harmony's with Ginger's beautiful lead vocal and those awesome signature Dillard banjo licks.

Doug Dillard was a National Treasure. Such a tremendous talent and an even more tremendous human being.

That’s very true! I met Mr. Dillard in Mt. Airy during Mayberry Days. He was a humble and wonderful person and so genuine. I’ll never forget what a privilege that was to meet such a talented man and a wonderful person. May GOD bless him!

The Dillards were my 1st introduction to BlueGrass Music on the Andy Griffith Show. Now I live in Missouri. Who would've thunk it ? Picking and a Grinnin !

    Ginger,
You're the best. What a great voice and person. I've just recently sent the roughs of RED WHITE AND BLUEGRASS to Billy Strange.
You made that group sound so good and your songs were wonderful.
    Your constant fan,
    Richard Russell

That LP was so good. It pointed me in a new direction. John Hartford was another great discovery for me here in Scotland.

Ginger played with Red, White, and Bluegrass. Grant Boatwright was on the LP as well.

Interesting to hear Doug Dillard and his band do this song because the Dillards released it after Herb Peterson replaced Doug. Also the fact that Doug and Rodney split over the direction of the music, but they ended up playing very similar styles.

This interviewer is so clueless. Doug clearly tried to explain that his brother kept the band name, The Dillards. Yet, he introduced Doug’s band as, The Dillards.

I really like this performance by the Doug Dillard band with Ginger Boatright as lead vocalist. You should start at 3:17 to skip the terrible interview.

I love this song but not this version so much. I prefer the original Dillards version. The violin is no substiture for the mandolin!

Gawd !! I could NEVER stand Ralph Emery. He was the least erudite broadcasting personality, EVER - and was a fountain of the most awkward non-sequiturs - because he just had NO SKILL as an interviewer. But the final damning point for me was when divorcing Skeeter Davis - he accused her of using HIS fame to get a leg up in the industry !! I mean to say !!
She was INTERNATIONALLY FAMOUS - did NOT need HIS little tin-pot efforts in what was a small town at the time. He was an odious, pompous ass with no skill - who really thought he was "something." Skeeter Davis had already won renown, singing with her "sister" - and had already had an international hit in 1953 with "I've Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know About Him." LONG before Emery was ever in the picture.
