She was rough as a kid, as an adult she's always super easy. Having a firm understanding of the game mechanics makes her pretty trivial. My last playthrough I was underleveled, but my croconaw was still faster than Miltank. Taught him fury cutter and he just KOd first because fury cutter damage got to start building before rollout. Machop destroys miltank. Onyx can screech miltank 2 times before fainting usually and let another member clean up. Lots of ways to make that fight super easy. But yea, Whitney whooped my butt up and down a few times as a kid.
@@RyanNash20 I suppose the real key to beating Whitney is knowing how the game works and can mean the difference between having a johto nuzlocke (for those of you who do nuzlockes which I will never do) end at Whitney or continue past and beyond Whitney
As a kid, the 2 Johto fights I remember struggling with were Jasmine and Claire. Jasmine probably had me wiping more than any other gym in any Pokémon game I've played. But as a kid, I was also pretty much just using my starter that was way overleveled since it took every fight, bruteforcing the game. Like, I remember always having my starter at its final evolution against Whitney around lvl.36, pretty much 1-2 shotting the Miltank, then going on to outspeed and 1-2 shot all of Morty's mons right after. Wasn't until Jasmine that the single overleveled Pokémon started to struggle, between steel being a weird type to encounter in early gen 2 and all the paralysis spam in her gym. I've never played the more modern games, but I imagine they're a bit more challenging to the point you can't just take every fight with your starter, end up outleveling opponents by 20 levels by the 3rd gym and continue to steamroll the game. Pretty sure my starter was 65 or something when getting to the Elite Four in Gold as a kid, who all had Pokémon in the 40s. The game kind of hits a lull where it feels like you're fighting enemies in the 20s and 30s for 80% of it. Which in retrospect I think is to pace it in a way where you can organically level up a team.
Whats funny about Morty in Gen 4 is that Noctowl is basically an instant win condition against Gengar. Shadow Ball and Hypnosis have no effect since Noctowl is a Normal Type with Insomniac, and Mean Look literally doesn't matter, which means if you just stall out 5 turns of Sucker Punch Morty's Gengar cannot touch you.
I've had my fair share of aces on the teams I've used over the past 25 years. Blastoise, Blaziken, Krookodile, Corviknight, and Honchkrow are just a few. They definitely came in clutch for me.
Since my first Pokémon game was Silver given to me with a gameboy color for my 8th birthday, the aces I remember are from nostalgia. Whitney’s Miltank, Morty’s Gengar with hypnosis/dream eater, and Claire’s Kingdra with surf. I always picked Cyndaquil for my starter and did the classic young player move of ONLY using and raising my starter so certain gyms gave me a lot of trouble.
I've definitely had my fair share of aces on my team. They usually end up being Pokemon I never would have expected. Leafeon and Empoleon and stand outs for me. 🌟
Generally my ace is my starter in like 99% of my playthroughs, but there are two notable exceptions - Lucario in Black 2, and Azumarill in Violet. However, there are some pokemons that werent my aces, but were notable parts of my team when i never expected them to be. I think the best example is Vivillon - an early route bug, only 411 BST, you dont expect much from that thing, right? Well... Flying Tera, Compound Eyes and Hurricane. If it hits, you better have Sturdy, otherwise you die. But i think one of my most satisfying moments in Pokemon was defeating the totem Kommo-o with a Ribombee. I know, it is quad weak to Fairy. But one shotting a giant fearsome punching dragon using a tiny cute bee-like bug is something special.
I feel like you definitely should have made mention of Iris' Haxorus. Focus Sash + Dragon Dance makes it just as hard to deal with as Cynthia's Garchomp if you're not prepared.
I was able to beat it with a couple of Outrages from my Haxorus, though. 1. Thanks to my Haxorus being a little faster than hers, I was able to launch an Outrage. 2. I let the Focus Sash activate, then let her use Dragon Dance one time 3. Iris will use a Full Restore, due to a low amount of health 4. Since restoration and using a “powering up” move can leave you as an easy target, my Haxorus just simply finishes it off with one final Outrage She does sometimes have a tendency to use Outrage herself, though, but at least my Haxorus can withstand the attack.

After grinding a bit more to beat it, only to have it COME BACK TO LIFE nearly made me cry. It was amazing. Took me four tries to beat him. Hardest final boss since Gale of Darkness.
I'm so glad Ghetsis's Hydreigon is on this list. However I was wondering why Rainbow Rocket Giovanni's Mega Mewtwo Y in Ultra Moon was not on this list. It literally creamed half of my team due to me not having Hydreigon or another good Dark type Pokemon on my team.
I enjoy all your videos mystic and can’t wait for your next one, for Whitney’s miltank all i have to say is “may you choke on sour milk from your own udders” to quote Chuggaconroy
Looking at its stats and moveset, I can see why Roaring Moon would be considered stronger than Garchomp, though in all honesty my experience facing the former is obscured due to the fact that in my first run of SV, I made a mockery of it by using Azumarill.
I’ve had a lot of aces on my teams over the years but my favorite was my HeartGold Ace a Lonely Nature Pidgeot with the moves Pluck, Return, Mud Slap, Feather Dance
In HG SS, another answer for Morty's Ganger is a normal type with a non-attacking move. You can pp stall sucker punch for 5 moves and then it can't touch your pokemon for any damage.
Great list but i think that Iris’ haxorous should be somewhere up there. Sure there are ways to get around it but D Dance + focus sash and i think it’s the best sweeper in the game.
Bro, i dont care how much you “mess up” in this video. I didnt get past the ad yet as im typing, but keep going! No matter how it goes, dont stop and have fun brother!
If I'm being honest, Morty's Gengar in HGSS was never a challenge, primarily because I use Togepi, and even at low level, Togepi still managed to take out Gengar with Sweet Kiss, followed by Extrasensory. And somehow, Morty never got the idea to use Hypnosis to somehow keep me from shutting him out. He'd just spam Shadow Ball even though it doesn't affect Togepi, and his Sucker Punch ran out of uses before he could get the KO on me. Hard to believe my Togepi, which was practically half Gengar's level, managed to secure what my Quilava just couldn't do.
Cynthia's Garchomp i think still take the cake and I would've put Lenora's Watchog and Whitney's milktank in the top 5. glad they got honoral mentions.
I wish they'd give slaking a new ability like moxie or something which would fit because as a parent if someone messes with your baby you're going to get violent lol and when slaking has this ability instead of laying down it should stand up, postured like a gorilla. It's my favorite evolution line because they resemble the family unit. Slakoth being the helpless baby that needs raised, vigoroth being the wild teenager and slaking being the parent. Slaking has so much potential to be amazing gameplay and visually wise
I dealt with Ghetsis' Hydreigon with a Leavanny. Yeah, that little weak bug, you encounter early on in the game, can make a draconic end game threat its plaything.
I like that you at least mentioned Whitney's miltank, but I believe it should've been on the list at least in top 5, but only for gen 2 and not gen 4. The gen 2 npc RNG was absolutely busted. Even with a Machop this fight is entirely luck based and I couldn't tell you how many times I've lost to her growing up. Paralysis from stomp, being infatuated, and miltank just overall being tanky even if you do get a hit off, it's just an absolute rage inducing fight.
In my play through of ruby Wallace had a milotic and seaking instead of crawdaunt and kingdra and I beat it with ease with manetrics thunder and sceptiles leaf blade
I remember one of my platinum play throughs I used attract with my male garchomp for some odd reason and absolutely creamed hers. She could do nothing but swoon over my bladeedge while he boosted up with swords dance and wiped her out without one hit
I’d say honerable mentions for me would be Elisas Zebatrika, cause unless you have a drilber or overleved krokorok your screwed cause it loves to volt switch with the Emolgas. And also Fantinas Mismagius in platinum where I genuinely think there’s no counters for it. That thing took me months to beat as a kid lol
In the original gold I remember beating morty with the togepi I had just hatched. Hypnosis missed and he couldn’t touch it while it was still a normal type 😅
Could be interesting to see a list of Aces that weren’t (ie Pokémon that could have been powerful aces but the trainer/developer let them down with subpar moves/ability, story timing).
That Gengar is what stopped me when I skipped ahead after losing to that awful Miltank. Both solo’d my team. Ghetsis’s Hydreigon almost did the same, stopped only by a bunch of revivals and Yawns from my Musharna, ironically the only team member not weak to its portfolio of attacks (and Hydreigon’s Focus Blast kept hitting).
Something i shouldve also mentioned with both profs in scarlet and violet, the past and future paradoxes gave me some trouble. Not knowing the typings was hard lol.

In HG SS, another answer for Morty's Ganger is a normal type with a non-attacking move. You can pp stall sucker punch for 5 moves and then it can't touch your pokemon for any damage.
Another great video!
I always wanted to get my hands on Battle Revolution
Cool Castlevania reference, Mystic!
Great Video 👍
Great list but i think that Iris’ haxorous should be somewhere up there. Sure there are ways to get around it but D Dance + focus sash and i think it’s the best sweeper in the game.
Elesa’s Zebstrika and Iris’ Haxorus both took me three tries to beat!
Bro, i dont care how much you “mess up” in this video. I didnt get past the ad yet as im typing, but keep going! No matter how it goes, dont stop and have fun brother!
To be honest I expected Cynthia's Garchomp to be somewhere in the top 5
Mystic Umbreon: The Roaring Moon that Professor Sada has is absolutely deadly!
Me: I one-shotted it with a Terastillized Grimmsnarl.
I would say that both Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant should be at the Number 1 Spot, given the latter's moveset in the final battle.
I love girafarig! I would always go around the water grab one, then proceeded to throttle Morty. Claire and Whitney were real hurdles
Soon as you started, I immediately thought of Juan and look at that, he's the 1st to be mentioned. 😂
Using Noctowl with Insomnia ability on your first try against Morty's Gengar makes him easy to beat
when i was 10 my ace was Darmanitan (not even the zen mode) and they are still my fav
What did you think of Nessa’s Drednaw?
Appreciate the vids btw!
Saw the title of this video and got triggered by Whitney’s Miltank! Great video as always!
Use togetic for morty … saved me big time
I'm so used to not using bc of lack of Togekiss, but that's a decent strategy tbh.
@@MysticUmbreon I also used flaffys cotton spore to slow down gengar. That’s where togetic came in for me 😄😄
I do have to mention Morty's Gengar is walled by normal types if you get past its 5 sucker punches. All you have to do is power through the sleep
I would like to see the countdown numbers Eevee turn into something besides a Umbreon. I would love to see all the evolutions. 🙂
I really don’t think in good conscience I could put Morty’s Gengar on the list when it pretty much folds instantaneously to any normal type.
Ironic that we’re celebrating powerful aces during pride month.
Cynthia's Garchomp i think still take the cake and I would've put Lenora's Watchog and Whitney's milktank in the top 5. glad they got honoral mentions.
Id love to see you rank all the starter Pokémon, if you havent already btw. 😅
Platinum was my first pokémon game at age 8 or 9 and Cynthia still gives me PTSD
Morty´s Gengar was something else, specially when your whole team is at lvl15. I manage to deal with him after buying 25 awakenings doe
I dealt with Ghetsis' Hydreigon with a Leavanny. Yeah, that little weak bug, you encounter early on in the game, can make a draconic end game threat its plaything.
Oh yeah, Sada's Roaring moon swept me multiple times
Mysticumbreon eres mi idolo perro 4 real homie
Dude, we all know Luvdisc is the real Ace of Juan's team
Normal type gyms without a fighting-type option is like swimming in shark infested waters.
I was expecting that damn slaking to be number 1 but then I heard the Scarlet and Violet music and I remembered the roaring moon.
idk if its only me but only battle i am afraid of is dad gym fight in emerald, that slaking gave me nightmares for years
Cmon bro ! U r best !
Leon's Charizard's all gangster til someone sets up rocks
When Garchomp was number 2 i really thought youd give Volo's Giratina the first spot!
I guess I had a good team comp to wash Sada
Winonas altaria was a nightmare !!
