    This is the first time I've seen your channel and I thought the video was great. Then you ended by saying "Praise God" and I knew I found a keeper. God bless you, brother.

    I finally gave in and got some nylon stuff for layering or summer hikes, it does make a difference. If it's so cold you need to keep your face warm a tube scarf will do the trick and it's easy to remove before you start sweating. Thanks for the vid!

    +PineMountainVentures Use a balaclava, or a bandana/scarf across the lower part of your face. Usually you don't really need one during the winter though (unless you're moving at speed, e.g., snowboarding, snowmobiling...), and a hat will suffice to keep you warm enough, especially when you're hiking (since the heat you produce will keep you warm).

    "OK guys, You're going to want a hat. Hats go on your head. Next you will need a shirt. Some shirts have full sleeves and there are also types of shirts with shorts sleeves. If it rains, you may get wet. I usually wear a rain jacket if it rains"..... Thanks for all the great information man. You are definitely a subject matter expert.

    Big five has some nice thermals. Even walmart gets some good ones. And as for rain gear Walmart also has Frog Toggs now. I think there like 39 dollarsfor the set

    Thanks dude!!! I'm gearing up to begin this hobby and have been collecting gear for the last couple of months (slow process if you want quality gear). I've watched the gear vid and I'm just missing a med kit. I haven't really gotten into the clothes yet, so I was happy to have found this vid. I have things in my closet already that could fill the bill...missing waterproof pants. What brand do you use/recommend? Keep in mind that I don't mind spending the money (that's why it's taking me months to gear up) because I only want to buy items one time. Thanks!

      @ReviewOutdoorGear  9 років тому

      Rod Porterfield, There are many good brands, but some bad ones as well, and I made the mistake of buying a more cheap pair of rain pants that I had to get rid of. The ones I have now are the REI Kimtah Rain Pants, and I like them. You could however go with Marmot, arcteryx, or any other high end brand. I would also say, go to a gear shop and try on some pairs, because some just fit horribly!

    I suggest a wool blend long thermal underwear. It will keep you warm if the temp drops, good to sleep in, they will increase the lower temperature range of a sleeping bag.

      Fleugar OutDoors , yes great idea. What brand do you use?

    • @FishWaterBrewery

      ReviewOutdoorGear Nothing high priced, I bought some Chinese products online. I am not a proponent to do business with China, but the reality is American Companies are selling Chinese made products with their name on it, for 3 times the price. So go to the source.

      +Fleugar OutDoors Another thing to consider is merino wool. It is in my opinion more comfortable than normal wool and it suits those whom might have allergies. Stays warm while wet and dries faster (in my experience) and doesn't start smelling even after being worn several times without washing. Great for material for warmer under layers and sock.

    Have you ever thought about using military boots. And do you bring a weapon for bear protection?

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear
      @ReviewOutdoorGear  8 років тому

      +Josh Hoeve, have thought about military boots and use them, just not for such long hikes, b/c they are often not so comfortable, depending on which ones you buy. Bears- occasionally carry something for this. Not always. This depends on where I'm hiking.

    I had a Patagonia half-zip sweater mid layer, it was made out of nylon and polyester!! I REALLY hated it!!! It Prevented Me From Keeping WARM!! The Nylon In it, prevented it from being Warm. Nylon DISPERSES Heat, ..Quickly Forces Your Body Heat AWAY From you,.. & it dries really fast, but *you don’t want nylon in ANY of your clothing , that you’re taking out into the COLD!* Nylon is for HOT, Hot Desert 🐫 🌵 Weather.

    For the 'thumbs down' votes, I wish there was a requirement to explain why. I cannot help but wonder if some experienced hiker heard something, perhaps even just one small segment, that they disagreed with. For the novice, it would be nice to know what and why someone disagreed. (Hearing another opinion can't hurt.)
