I've loved this biopic for years. Especially how it re-humanises Fanny as well as exploring her careerist coldness. As a Brit, someone who enjoys cooking and who has a habit of watching cooks on TV, Fanny has an almost mythical legacy that can be parodied and mocked in just an equal measure. She was vitriolic, overbearing and stylistically questionable, but there's no doubt how she remains a formative base for all TV chefs, and she did at least inspire confidence in the home kitchen.

The scene of the removal of her make up brought to mind Dangerous Liaisons denouement. Tragic and revealing, Ms Davis is a fucking genius.
This is a brilliant drama. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she tried, Julia Davis just isn't Fanny Cradock.
