Saving Video Clips in Blue Iris - Drives, NAS, and FTP

  • In this video I show how to set up Blue Iris to save video clips in folders in the "Clips and Archiving" tab. By default, Blue Iris first saves clips to the "new" folder then moves the clips to the "stored" folder. I also show how to use FTP (file transfer protocol) to move clips offsite. You can also use a NAS (network attached storage) with Blue Iris and move clips to that as well.

    Your videos are always so helpful and very well presented. I watched this one again as a refresher after receiving both my new dedicated surveillance drive for the PC and the correct drive for NAS. The new SSD drive for my Win10 system was long over due as well so now everything is running so much fasted and cleaner that before. Thanks for all of your help along the way and keep up the great work. Happy New Year.

    What is the best way to send video in realtime offsite? If thieves break in, I'd like to have video right up to the point where they steal/destroy the BlueIris server.

    If I have 48 cameras and I want the images separated by folders I would need 48 folders, is this possible?

      @@learnblueiris I'm always around. :) I had hoped at my age life would slow down a bit, but I'm blessed with a wonderful family and cursed with an interest in knowing how everything works. :) I guess that's why networking drives me so crazy. I'm glad you are making videos again and I hope you bring back some of the videos from your other channel. You had a huge amount of great work there.

    What's the purpose of a new and stored folder? It seems having the "new" folder is all you need, and once it's full, it could just overwrite the oldest files.
    I also don't understand why we want a delete any footage after 7 days or whenever . Why not store the data until the purple drive is full and then needs to be overwritten with new data?

    • @learnblueiris
      @learnblueiris  Рік тому +3

      The separate folders doesn't really do much if you are on the same drive. It makes sense if you have two different drives or your stored is a NAS or some other storage medium.
      If you want to overwrite, what you would do is take the total drive size and subtract 200GB and put that in as the size. (ex. 6TB drive, put 5800MB in the size part) Then for time put it way far out...like 180 days. It's whichever comes first, so when it hits the capacity of the drive, old footage will be deleted and new footage will be written in its place.
      Thanks for watching!
