Fun fact: cats' noses are stronger than humans'. Imagine someone spraying fabreze in your face when you are trying to poop. Don't use odor remover, or any scents.
I use fabreze after my cat uses the restroom and I spray it away from him and he doesn’t seem to mind also I don’t think putting baking soda in there would bother him much😕
I clean my cats litter box twice a day, she will let me know if I don't. Also I only got scented litter once on accident and it was extremely obvious how much she hated it. Cats noses are sensitive and they like their stuff to smell like them. Don't scent the litter box pls. Just clean the thing regularly. It's also a good way to stay on top of your cats toilet habits and noticing health concerns if things change.
Baking soda is actually pretty terrible for litter boxes. Baking soda has a pH of 8.4, and the average clay cat litter has a pH of between 8.0 and 9.0. Sprinkling baking soda into your litter increases the pH levels and can actually encourage ammonia to be released in your house.
So many bad tips here. Don’t use any additives, they keep the litter from clumping as well and clumping is the whole point for removing urine. Urine is actually the source of most of the smell. Don’t get that aggressive shaking the litter off the scoop. Remember that getting the intact clump out is how you keep it as odor free as possible. Don’t use a box with ridges or grooves on the bottom. Again, trying to remove any stuck clumps from that surface will result in broken clumps. That will result in more broken urine particles left behind to stink.
Wow, thanks so much. Let me respond to your different points: - We don't use clumping litter. - The scooping was for the video. Try scooping and filming and let me know how it goes. I don't shake the scoop that aggressively when I'm not filming, but thank you for explaining how to scoop a litter box to someone who does it for a living lol - We don't use clumping litter thanks, have a nice day
I don't use litter. I use a double layered litter box that sifts and pine pellets. You just scoop the poop, and the spend pine falls to the bottom tray wirh a few shakes. Easy cleaning. Smells so much better.
I used to love this method until I adopted two new cats and one of them HATES the pallets and just poops anywhere else in the house I tried changing the litter to something with a more sand-y feel in only one box and, you've guessed it, all of the cats started using the new litter and the pallets remained UNTOUCHED Now I'm having to rethink my strategy, what litter to use, buy taller boxes because they throw the sand out while burying, etc... 😩 Lucky you that your cats have adapted to it!
We joke ours is digging to China again. I got her one of those covered litter boxes. Fixed the issue for me. I tried different litters but from what I can tell she just really likes to make sure she's doing a good job. She's been like that since she was a kitten.
I have read and heard many times not to use any deodorant with scent in the litter boxes because it can bother them better to have an odor absorber made of charcoal or other ones
Thanks. We're a very small staffed cat shelter. We do what we can and the video is now over a year old. It's always helpful to learn from all of the internet experts. :)
I only need to use a lil dish detergent to clean our cat's litter box n let it soak for 30-45 mins or longer if it really needs it. No need to use bleach n or pine sol to clean a cat's litter box. Soap/warm or hot water is sufficient. I use clumping litter. I had arm & hammer litter last time. Today I bought Tidy Cats 24/7 performance continuous odor control
Litterbox additives can cause a cat to have allergic reactions. Here is my advice: Use a litter box scoop daily to get rid of pee/poop in the cat box. The cat box itself needs to be cleaned at least once a month (more frequently if there is pee/poop on the sides - or- the litter box stinks) What I do: Dump all of the cat litter out of the cat litter box.(never put cat litter in your toilet) In the litter pan, add a little bit of bleach, a little bit of pinesol, and a small squirt of dawn antibacterial dish detergent. (Disinfect, clean, and smell good). Add hot water to fill about 1/2 of cat litter pan Put on gloves and use a clorox/lysol/antibacterial wipe scrub the bottom and sides of the litter pan. When the litter pan is clean, dump the water/cleaning solution. Throw away the wipe you used Rinse the cat box thoroughly with hot water several times. You DO NOT want any residues left on the cat box. You should not be able to smell any of the cleaners/Disinfectants. After the litter pan is cleaned and rinsed really well - thoroughly dry the cat litter pan. Make sure there are no wet/damp areas! Fill up the litter pan with fresh cat litter.
Never Never never NEVER mix pinesol with bleach. This can produce dangerous gases that are carcinogenic for both you and your pet to breathe. Never mix pinesol wirh anything other tha water and neve mix chlorine with anything other than water. And never clean your pets things with this nasty and dangerous mixture. In fact I recommend using only natural and non toxic cleaners for your whole house if you have pets or children. Water with vinegar usually does the trick, it cleans and disinfects and if you are concerned by the smell ypu can add 1 drop of essential oil and the vinegat smell goes away in a few minutes anyway. For difficult grease or sticky stains you can add baking soda to the vinegar and scrub scrub scrub. And for extara disonfection you can spray hydrogen peroxide to your gata litter and litter box. Also I don't recomend any kind of clay or rock litter. Not only is it stinky, powdery and retains odors, it is also difficult to clean, and environmentally damaging to mine, and dispose. Instead I recomend pine pellets and a sifting litter box. Pee pulverizes pellets and you shake the sifter so they fall to the bottom and then just scoop the poop. Pine or any wood pellet eliminates cat pee odor right away, in a natural non toxic way because the natural chemicals in the wood break up or absorb ammonia, its environmentally friendly and biodegradable, you can even throw ir in the toilet, and even better, its cheaper!!!
I just bought a smaller auto litter box and it’s amazing. It took me a while to save up but bc my two cats were using the same litter box a total of 5x a day, it was a lot. (They have 2 boxes to choose from but both liked the downstairs one) I love only having to empty it 2x a week instead of 3x a day! I will be using arm n hammer in the litter still just to give it that extra freshness.
I used to use tidy cats and my home would still have a smell. I switched to cats pride and it doesn't anymore. I think the cats pride clumps better for more effective scooping
When I'm alone I usually check (with check I mean I scoop if there's something in it) in the morning, the day (or when I come home), evening and before going to bed. Ofc I'm lazy sometimes tho and just waits a bit until it's like... Idk like when you can see it's been digged in? Or if it's empty I might just wait til the next check time 😅 Is that bad? Idk but when I'm alone I take it at least 3 times a day

Those odour things smell good but they end up lining the bottom of the tray when they absorb the urine and you get this horrid concentrafion of urea plus when you come to refresh the litter you have to clean so much of it off the bottom
The cat should never be able to dig to the bottom of the litter box. You need that much litter in there. Ideally the litterbox should also be bigger. If you have room, something like "EG86/32 HG" is perfect. And you need to clean it thoroughly and not leave pee clumps behind. This was hard to watch. Poor cat.
Yes 3 inches minimum depth. That way the urine is less likely to make it to the bottom and get stuck. I see where pee clumps come from. Aggressively shaking the scoop and that ridged box bottom.
Most cats don't like it when you make their toilet smell lavender and whatever other crap. Don't spray stuff in your cat litter tray it isn't good for them and can be dangerous.
I scoop every time my cat do something, I can't believe people let the poop and pee just sit there. That's so gross for your cat and for you. Also, you put not enough litter, poor cat scrapes the floor to cover...

Okay but not gonna stop me
i think id just be annoyed at the feeling of febreze spraying on my face but i wouldnt mind the smell, whatre you trying to say bruh😭
I use fabreze after my cat uses the restroom and I spray it away from him and he doesn’t seem to mind also I don’t think putting baking soda in there would bother him much😕
Agreed. I use plain baking soda, helps neutralize the odors so less bad smell, no yucky fragrance
I used to put just regular baking soda mixed with the litter. Why be fancy? 😅
I use Arm & Hammer in the black box.
It keeps the bad odors in check and clumps nicely.
Black box? I need to Google it... 😅
Just buy things of baking soda and put it in there that's a heck of a lot cheaper than that stupid deodorant

If you want to minimize odor: Sift, don’t scoop, and stop trying to save litter.

No you should not put a deodorant in it.
Plus they need it a little deeper than that
Right and it was dirty af!!
I was about to say "THIS ISN'T TIKTOK"untill I realized you said tip talk😂
My cat is SO messy. She scratches her litter everywhere. The minute I come behind her she hops in and checks it again.
You may need to change the type/brand of cat litter.

Anyone else have the litter/ waste mixture get stuck in your litter scooper? Pick up a "Scooper Cleaner"... It's a must-have for cat owners!

I used to do this and stopped. I can’t tell any difference. It’s completely arbitrary in my opinion. It just makes us feel better.

Yes It Does ! 👍
It does ake a huge clean difference- cleaning thei toilet out (LoL)😊
And the Arm & Hammer deodorizer is 💯👌

I just wait for my cat to poop n pee n as soon as he finish doing his work i clean it😂😂😂😂
I still don't see how this doesn't stink. It never smells fresh. Cleaned twice a day n still has odor. Yuk.

Did you make that litter box
We sure did!
Cat can jump in . The cut out is unnecessary
U cant pour an inch if you cut in a door.
The cut out is necessary for our shelter. We have older, senior cats that cannot jump. Thanks for your advice.
Omg how much poop in that box
Here’s a fun fact maybe take out the poop more often
We have 30 cats in the room. Here's a fun fact, maybe don't comment on things you don't know anything about.

Cats hate scents
Some cats do hate scents. It's important to learn what your cat prefers.
You have to change it entirely too. I do monthly but they recommend every two weeks
I find that by using standard clumping litter that is unnecessary.
Agreed, we change out the entire boxes at our shelter very regularly with 30+ cats in the rooms.
Would it be better to buy that scented baking soda for 4 dollars a box, or a 15 pound bag of regular baking soda for $10?
We recommend the regular baking soda, as cats are sensitive to strange smells.
Litter box 📦
Those odour things smell good but they end up lining the bottom of the tray when they absorb the urine and you get this horrid concentrafion of urea plus when you come to refresh the litter you have to clean so much of it off the bottom
why are you shaking the scoop so much like that in dookie litter😭
You are welcome to come scoop any of our 40 boxes
It looks like you’re cat pans. Don’t have enough cat litter in them and so it looks terrible inside.
You can donate to our nonprofit shelter so we can buy more litter! :)
Just clean it and use an air purifier if it smells. Thats it lol
Which air purifier do you use
Very simple, when the cat shit, clean it
The cat should never be able to dig to the bottom of the litter box.
Can litter deodorizer be used if I use pine pellets for my cat?
Yes it can, though pine pellets usually mask the spell pretty well on their own ✨
Most cats don't like it when you make their toilet smell lavender and whatever other crap. Don't spray stuff in your cat litter tray it isn't good for them and can be dangerous.
i still see clumps of pee after you scooped. is that ok? maybe thats why it takes me at least 45 minutes...i get the tiny clumps out too.
We are using non-clumping litter, so that's pretty normal!
Why use them at all? Let them out
Put baking soda at the bottom of the litter box. Don't waste money and furthermore cats hate perfume 😅
Baking soda is a great alternative. This video was a response to someone asking specifically about the deodorant. And not every cat hates perfumes. :)
I scoop every time my cat do something, I can't believe people let the poop and pee just sit there. That's so gross for your cat and for you.
