how do you teach a horse not to touch the electric wire on a fence? usually, one would expect the horse makes the connection itself after two or three zaps. but when it doesn't, what do you do then?
@embreis2257 Matt alluded to in the beginning. That stallion is used to regular fencing he can push, hang his head over ect, so he's very surprised here to find it now is shocking him for behavior he was previously never shocked for. That's why he keeps touching it. He can't quite see it and his habit is to push the fence a bit. He'll figure it out soon enough.
The small paddock makes me so nervous. I've always turned my new horses out with friends in a big field (colts/stallions with geldings, mares with mares or geldings) and they'd run it about and then go eat and be done with it. This had me on the edge of my seat 😂 He is absolutely beautiful and I'm very keen to see him progress, I also love the name Dolce! I'm sure he will settle soon.
@ When it rains a lot the fields get really muddy and slippery therefore dangerous to the horses but they do put them out on grass all they can just look at other videos
In my years of training my horses. I taught them to put their head down for haltering and bridling. This makes it easier for short and small kids to halter easier. And the horse is more aware of your intentions and this is less stressful on both parties. I love when my horses lower their heads for on and off haltering. Much easier for all. ❤❤❤just a suggestion
If you don't mind, I think we all want to see updates often (each video) about the house. You make great videos, but the house ones are pure gold for a number of reasons.
Oh he is so young. I loved how he was actually looking for you to get advice about that fence that was "behaving oddly" to him. He is a sweet stallion, with lots of spark and potential ❤
@@caroliner.9388 Yeah, maybe some calming talk would had been better.... 🙂 Of course he will learn about the fences, but he is still just a slightly bigger baby in a foreign place. ❤
Such a beautiful, majestic boy! I like the name Maestro. He is destined for greatness! And the name keeps with the theme of names ending in "o". Looking forward to seeing him grow and learn!
Your boy really, really seeks your attention ! He became upset when he did not get it immediately. He LOVED it when you finally acknowledged him during your speaking in the first part of the video when you were standing in front of his stall outside. He shook his head when he was upset. Play closer attention to him because he always seems to seek your approval. That means a lot to him.
Dolce is the perfect name for him. Movement, music....beautiful. Music adverb: dolce (especially as a direction) sweetly and softly. "this theme is to be performed dolce with changing dynamics" adjective adjective: dolce performed in a sweet and soft manner. "the dolce movement may prove a discovery for admirers"
Matt I can't help but to chuckle you are like a father of a new born baby very protective of him touching the fence. I love you both ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️
Oh Matt what a beautiful horse. He is truly STUNNING!!!!! The more I see him the more beautiful he becomes. I am also glad that it is about the horses again in these last 2 videos. I had missed them. And I have respect for you in these busy times that you still look so relaxed. I think this is especially great of Jesse because according to you he has ADHD. And I have not noticed anything of that lately. Congratulations again on your beautiful new acquisition. And good luck with everything concerning the renovation. Oh, and I do not like any of the names you showed. That has to be better. I myself have no idea for a suitable name. Thanks again for this video. I enjoyed it very much.
When things settle down, please invite the horse communicator. I am very interested in what you boys think of each other. Love any name that ends with O.
Aww, Jesse sounds so calm while Matt is having some serious anxiety. I think the horse just wants to run and stretch a bit more than it could in that small paddock. But he'll calm down soon enough, once he gets to know everything. :)
This horse needs to RUN! He's cooped up in that stall. Goes from that to that tiny paddock. Has so much pent up energy. Every time he tried to move he got zapped, tried to run away in the other direction, got zapped. I do give you props for ignoring the unwanted behavior (nipping), and rewarding the wanted behavior by petting him (not nipping and looking forward).
Yes, he can only do three strides in that tiny little paddock and that actually increases the risk of injury by constantly stopping and turning, touching the fence, rolling too close to the fence etc. If he could have twice the size he could stretch his legs a bit while still not encouraging crazy running. :) Since he is still so young it's probably not that long ago he was brought in from the fields as they usually do that when they are turning 3, so he will still be used to being out at pasture. Different with the older Spanish stallions who have only been in a stable for years, then you have to be more careful. 😊
Putting a new horse on a field before they feel at home, will just end with them escaping, getting injured, fighting with other horses. After a trip of multiple days, where the horse has to use their muscles to adapt to the movement, it's okay to spend a few days relaxing and getting to know the new stable.
Putting a horse into a big paddock when you don’t know how will he behave is a new level of irresponsible. When he has little space there is less fear of him jumping out with a good run up, and let’s not forget he is a STALLION. It’s not a good old calm gelding that you can lead with one finger! And if you noticed, there is something called winter paddock and summer paddock. Winter paddocks are smaller because they have to be safer for muddy weather, filled likely with sand itp. therefore - smaller
Matt, looking at these paddock sizes, PLEASE triple or quadruple the paddock size at the new farm! There has to be some formula for size of horse to area of paddock. I know this one is not big enough for him. Maybe they need to all be indoor arena size. Yeah, that’s it. 17. Indoor areas that’s what you need.🥳🥳💋💋
Lovely looking horse Matt and moves beautifully!! Out of the three names you have chosen , I think Valor sounds lovely for him or the Latin Valorem for strength, moral worth , courage . Whatever you choose , choose a name that is strong befitting such a beautiful boy as he is. A name he can be proud of.
You have a history of choosing really great names for your horses and I have no doubt you will do so for this spectacular new horse as well. I hope he can be turned out in a larger space very soon. I’m looking forward to seeing your journey with him.
Matt and Jesse You two make such great videos and podcasts. Because you give of yourself 100%. I have seen several of your videos and a topic that often comes up about your private lives that others ask about. What you do outside of the video part that is private is private. It has nothing to do with what you do then. But I really like you giving of yourself and I have noticed that you Matt have gotten stronger since you met Jesse.
I feel the stress of the “first turnout”!!! Omg! So nerve wrecking!! I thought a few times he was going through the fence! 🤦🏼♀️ Wow is he an absolutely fantastic horse.. holy cow boy can move
For the people going on about how small the paddocks are they are stallion paddocks for 1. But secondly these are temporary housing situations for these sport horses. There is so much invested into their horses well being, just watch the channel. In the previous video they were worried about the stall size for Jesse’s horse.
When the colt stands in the center of the paddock with his eyes looking to you, that is exactly what you want! He is ready for you to guide him gently to "join up" with you. Wearing your best helmet and boots, the next steps will be for you to stand in the paddock calmly allowing the horse to come to you. Monty Roberts in the USA is a master at the gentle join up method (not breaking) with any horse. The horse needs you to survive and you can be the best and kindest contact in his world! When he is ready, you can lightly lead/lunge him in a circle, and then soon place a rug and then a saddle on his back, etc. He wants to join up with you to be part of your herd and to thrive. 💙
Matt, the more relaxed, calm and patient you are with him, the more he will seek your company and ask you to teach him the next steps and the next, etc. Try to resist any corrections for his mistakes early on ... just stay calm and interact when he is ready and comes to you in a peaceful way. (No rushing or raising the voice.) You are a natural, Matt! This method truly forms the closest, most equal, and the most humane bond time and time again! He should never fear you, only want to be with you, like Hermanos (brothers). 💜
Matt,I wish you could do a video on how much it costs to buy a horse, especially break down on all the costs and things you need. I'm in Sydney, and a friend wants to buy a horse. She doesn't know the first thing about owning a horse. I feel too many people purchase horses that end up in rescue. Matt would be great at breaking it down.
He seems very kind and playful. I know it was so hard watching him get shocked. I kept clinching and shrieking. I hope he figures it all out right away.
He maybe one of those thinkers ,that go back to the barn and process all theve learned.I taught young ones and the next day ,come out and preform perfectly what they couldnt the day before.
A good name is so important…the meaning is what is important. Animals can take on the meaning of the name….so choose wisely! God bless you all and your beautiful fur babies! You are so good to your horses, which is so admirable!
Good Morning Matt!! As a new subscriber, I was excited to see a current video this morning as I've been trying to catch up on some previous videos and familiarize myself with your channel and that of Jesse as well. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your new horse being taken out for some fresh air. I think he'll get used to the wires in time, so no worries. He's absolutely beautiful! As for the name, there were 3 names early in the video on the screen and one of those was Valor. I rather liked that one. Thank you for all you do to let us know what is involved in taking care of these magnificent creatures. I totally enjoy each and everyone of your videos and those from Jesse. What a super great match the two of you are! I think Jesse is hilarious! I'm so looking forward to seeing and hearing about how your new home is coming along after today's trip.
I think Allegro would be so fitting for him! It’s a nod to your Italian heritage and it’s used in music to indicate a fast and energetic tempo which he certainly shows in the way he moves :)
Matt, hello from Oregon. Hello to Jesse too. “Static” is an issue this time of year here too, its typically due to low humidity levels. We use a humidifier in areas where static is the worst. Not possible in a stable area, I am sure. Love your content. ❤
Arod is a Lord of the Rings name that could work. In LOTR, Arod is a war horse of Rohan, given to Legolas. In the language of Rohan, Arod means “swift.” It also means “noble” in Sindarin (an Elvish language).
There are also some great names in CONSTELLATIONS AND STARS. You already have Antares and there are other nice names among the brightest stars. What about Rigel, Vega, Spica, Sirius, Arcturus, Adhara (Adharo, if too feminine with a), Altair, Aldebaran, Capella, or from constellations (Pleiades, Orion, Auriga/Aurigo, Aquila/Aquilo - the o-modifications being more masculine). Stars and constellations have some incredible stories behind them, many from Greek mythology. Altair means 'Flying Eagle'. Aquila apparently also means 'eagle'. Having a 'black opposite' to the light golden colour of Antares with a star or other celestial or astronomical name would be cool. There are lists online.
Hello from Iowa USA. Lovely new addition to the family. As you get to know the new boy, his name will come to you and it will be perfect. I would also encourage you (and it's super hard when we get so excited) to approach everything you do with him, as he has never experienced it before; i.e. putting on boots, etc. This is for everyone's wellbeing and safety. Looking forward to seeing what comes next!
This is the first time I've ever seen Matt nervous & apprehensive with a horse. (it's kinda cute) It's probably because hibuddy is sooooo dang BIG!!! 😱
I think it’s more that he is so young and has not been broken in. All of his other horses had been older and had been ridden. This guy looks like an adult but he is still a baby in the horse world. So he is like a full sized horse but with a toddler brain. That can be dangerous until he has more training and time being handled.
He's such a beautiful horse and being so young, being in a strange environment, he's got to learn. I've watched this video three times just to see Matt's expressions and to hear Jesse calmness. I personally think the horse is the prettiest he's ever bought.
Oh my gosh, isnt he just so stunning, even with the way he runs as he's exploring the area. He's SO smart. You have really hit the jackpot, Matt, between Emporio, Etro, this new guy and all your other horses. Am starting to love the idea of maybe naming him after a planet or a constellation? Sirius, Mars, Jupiter, etc. As you get to know him and his personality some more a name will come to you! This will be an amazing journey for both of you!
☘️🇮🇪🇺🇸 he’s so elegantly beautiful- young learning bravely about his new home. Learning to trust… well done Mat your true love of your companions shows in your tone of voice your body stance & movements… you uniquely understand them you are a rarity blessings
Congratulations on the new horse. He’s stunning and seems like he will be a good fit with the others. You guys are so gentle and patient with your horses. I love that. I mean, you think about him getting used to you, as well as you getting used to him…what a great concept. Have a great week 😁👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
He is absolutely stunning! I like the name Valor for him honestly, it suits him really well. He's also not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to electric fences..
Matt, watching your boy, your magnificent youngster, I could see him as “Valor” for a name. A strong, brave, courageous name. It’s a special, heroic name. You don’t often hear the word, but when you do, it touches the heart. And it’s meaning is recognized pretty much all over the world. It could be shortened to “V”! as an easily heard stable name. lol, I can imagine stylized “V” monograms on his saddles, bridles, browbands, blankets … Do you know what I like most about him so far? When he was coming down the ramp from his delivery truck, and his lead rope was put into your hand … ( “Here is your horse” , some of the most wonderful, exciting words in life, aren’t they?!!). - and as you led him away, it wasn’t long before he was looking to you among the group for what to do or not to do …he has brains and good intuition. What a bright, forward, gorgeous young stallion. I love the idea of Valor for him. Your thoughts?
Great video Matt Static electricity is more common in cold weather because cold air has less moisture than warm air. This lack of moisture makes it harder for static electricity to balance out.
Hello Matt and Jesse! Oh, my, he is the most gorgeous horse.. congrats on his purchase! Watching him get shocked over and over in the paddock was surely stressful, but watching him get pissed at that offending fence was priceless. He looked like a true ruler laying down and rolling, only to get up and strike the ground several times as if laying down the LAW. As I watched him, I could only think of ONE name for him, and that was SOVEREIGN! 👑 And I thought of a cute stable name as well, which is JEFE, which is pronounced HE-FE, and is the Spanish for BOSS! Have fun with this fine boy's training! ♥️

Besides getting zapped a few horrible times,..he's a splendid mover! Such a beauty! He floats!
That gait is a 12 out of 10! Probably like your gorgeous dogs! 🐾
@Bell-b9r9q kinda true! My german shep is a smooth gaited boy for sure:)
Same, I think that letting him go on a bigger field would be a better option because for now he looks like he's "trapped"
@@zuzka9045I think they’ve said that they can’t what’s use the big fields they have due to certain weather conditions but idk for sure.
I think it’s too cruel. The paddock is tiny. The poor man can’t canter around properly
@ When it rains a lot the fields get really muddy and slippery therefore dangerous to the horses but they do put them out on grass all they can just look at other videos
@@PrincessNottinghamit’s a stallion paddock. Calm TF down
In my years of training my horses.
Oh he’s so BEAUTIFUL 😍 and those eyes look so kind, I’m very interested to see what the stallion paddocks at your new place will look like
Oh he is so young. I loved how he was actually looking for you to get advice about that fence that was "behaving oddly" to him. He is a sweet stallion, with lots of spark and potential ❤
So true! He sees Matt as Papa and his human already! Like, make the wire stop that Dad!
He could clear that fence, yes? Unless he is too young to jump like that yet?
I saw that😂 And every time they freaked out verbally when he was close to touching he would look over at them 😂
@@caroliner.9388 Yeah, maybe some calming talk would had been better.... 🙂 Of course he will learn about the fences, but he is still just a slightly bigger baby in a foreign place. ❤
that's one of the most beautiful horses I've ever seen.
Such a beautiful, majestic boy! I like the name Maestro. He is destined for greatness! And the name keeps with the theme of names ending in "o". Looking forward to seeing him grow and learn!
Totally agree. Maestro is very majestic
Music
adverb: dolce
(especially as a direction) sweetly and softly.
"this theme is to be performed dolce with changing dynamics"
adjective
adjective: dolce
performed in a sweet and soft manner.
He looks like a flawless black diamond! Congrats on your new addition. May he sire many generations of gorgeous creatures
My thoughts, too. Full of energy and having g to stay reeled in. It seems torture to me not getting him in a pasture where he can be a horse!!!
I agree
I love VALOR for him, he is MAGNIFICENT and MAGESTIC. Thank You sharing, bless you all!
Namaste
His gait and head carriage are spectacular!
This stallion is a stunning looking horse. You have a great eye when you decided to purchased this big boy.
Wow is he an absolutely fantastic horse.. holy cow boy can move
His head is simply stunning. The eyes and ears are soft, alert and so very intelligent and soulful.
For the people going on about how small the paddocks are they are stallion paddocks for 1. But secondly these are temporary housing situations for these sport horses. There is so much invested into their horses well being, just watch the channel. In the previous video they were worried about the stall size for Jesse’s horse.
Dictator of the sword .........got to be Arthur ❤
This is the start of an amazing journey. Thank you for bringing us along.
Dolce is the best suggestion someone gave. Short and sweet, yet has dignity.
@nickysmom Thank you, I think a sweet name for him would be best, I like that you added dignity.
Too feminine. Emporia sounds regal this horse deserves a strong name.
here in Spain Dolce o Dulce is a femenine name
This stallion can definitely handle/balance the feminine and masculine! ⚖️ 🤭
He has settled in so well with all his new environment! ❤
Beautiful!
He looks like NEO from the Matrix !
He maybe one of those thinkers ,that go back to the barn and process all theve learned.I taught young ones and the next day ,come out and preform perfectly what they couldnt the day before.
Thank you for sharing. It is enjoyable to watch you work with your new horse!
This boy is PRETTY...that movement! I can see 5 years in the future he's a Champion in Dressage easily. Valor is a fabulous name for him.
A good name is so important…the meaning is what is important. Animals can take on the meaning of the name….so choose wisely! God bless you all and your beautiful fur babies! You are so good to your horses, which is so admirable!
❤❤❤❤❤
He’s beautiful, congratulations Matt & Jesse on the new horse & your new property! Can’t wait to see how everything comes along. Happy New Year! 🎉
Hi Matt &Jesse, I love your new horse. He is beautiful. Can’t wait to see you training him and also updates on your new home.😊
I think the name Valor really suits him. beautiful, strong and loving❤. What a beautiful horse. congratulations with him
Is it just me or am i waiting every day just to see a new video🤣. This the best 😍
Jesse you have to talk with him...your souls will melt together
As far as I know, Jesse gifted this horse to Matt for Christmas! Jesse is sweetly allowing them to bond first. 💙 💙 💙
Man that horse can move!!! ❤❤❤ He's absolutely stunning!!! I really liked the suggested Lucero......
Fuego = Fire 🔥 because he is firey and has so much spirit!
Arod is a Lord of the Rings name that could work. In LOTR, Arod is a war horse of Rohan, given to Legolas. In the language of Rohan, Arod means “swift.” It also means “noble” in Sindarin (an Elvish language).
and when spoken out loud it sounds like _a rod_ , doesn't it? not very appealing to the ear.
@embreis2257 You need to combine the two on your tongue. If you pronounce it separately, ofc it doesn't.
@@Bell-b9r9q Idk anything about baseball players and I doubt Matt knows American baseball players, either.
Shadowfax! Despite shadowfax being grey. 🥰
Vega, love it! It also means descending eagle and the pathway to riches and wealth. 🪶
He looks like an “ Emperor “ to me. Beautiful, well behaved horse. Congratulations.
He is such a cute an beautiful stallion or gelding and he has a gentle character, always listening to what you say to him.
I think it’s also just him being cautious because he doesnt know the horse that well yet. Always good when interacting with a new horse imo 😊
Best approach with so many unknowns and just a baby Goliath. Helmets and boots for riders, too ... always smart.
If he was mine, I would call him Tesoro. He is special. Tesoro means treasure in Italian
Lovely ... Matt is Italian and German!
This is such a good suggestion! ❤
Valor is a beautiful name and seems so fitting❤
He is magnificent! Congratulations!
Your followers are loyal and committed to your channel. Please start posting more often. 🤍
He is still such a baby but he has a beauty trot and a funny spirt. A horse with a personality is the best.
He’s beautiful, but boy oh boy, what a powerful horse! Congratulations Matt!🐴
He is absolutely stunning! I like the name Valor for him honestly, it suits him really well. He's also not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to electric fences..
He is VERY intelligent for a 2 year old colt! My 15 year old dog is truly smarter than most humans (Dutch Shepherd)! 🤭
use dryer sheets or an antistatic spray before putting blankets on. I use both. I save my dryer sheets after drying my clothes to use on my mare.
Matt, watching your boy, your magnificent
youngster, I could see him as “Valor” for a name. A strong, brave, courageous name. It’s a special, heroic name. You don’t often hear the word, but when you do, it touches the heart. And it’s meaning is recognized
pretty much all over the world.
It could be shortened to
“V”! as an easily heard
stable name.
lol, I can imagine stylized “V” monograms on his saddles, bridles, browbands, blankets …
Do you know what I like most about him so far?
When he was coming down the ramp from his delivery truck, and his lead rope was put into your hand … ( “Here
is your horse” , some of the most wonderful, exciting words in life, aren’t they?!!). - and as you
led him away, it wasn’t
long before he was
looking to you among the group for what to do or not to do …he has brains and good intuition. What a bright, forward, gorgeous young stallion. I love the idea of Valor for him. Your thoughts?
they've been really active with uploading new videos now I freaking love it !!
5:44 If there is one person I trust with holding a horse's lead, it's Jesse.
Masterly edited so that it stays interesting! It did. Lovely.
He is SO loved already. 😔 🫂 🤗
he is such a beautiful boy love how he knows that he keeps moving around he might fell anxious are exited he knows what u are asking off him as well
Love watching you with your horses❤Can’t wait to see what you do with your new home.
Great video Matt Static electricity is more common in cold weather because cold air has less moisture than warm air. This lack of moisture makes it harder for static electricity to balance out.
OMG! He made me so nervous! Every zap! Ouch! He is such a baby and completely gorgeous! Enjoy Valor! He sure is brave!
I can't wait to see him run in a pasture. He is very handsome.
I'm looking forward to more content from the two of you together!! And I'm really counting on vlogs from working with this BEAUTIFUL horse 🖤 The good and bad moments. I'm working with a young horse now and it's very inspiring to see someone's hard work and progress in building trust and a strong relationship!
