Parker QuinkFlow vs Quink Gel Pen Refills Compared - What's the best Parker Refill?

  • What's the difference the Parker QuinkFlow ballpoint refill ( amzn.to/2FUwjhO ) and the Parker Gel ( amzn.to/2GcPAtT ) refill? How to they write? Why would I want one or the other? What's the best refill for my Parker Jotter? I had the same questions and hopefully this video answers them for you!
    The QuinkFlow ballpoint refill in 1.0mm is included with the Jotter ballpoint pen ( amzn.to/2FYYDvh ). The Quink Gel I bought aftermarket.

    Just a heads up...where you mentioned with the gel refill there is an accumulation of ink at the end - that is called railroading (it's basically where the ink is smooth so pushes ink from the middle to the end of the line/stroke.)
    Love the video!

    Just bought a new Parker.. Wasn't sure which refills to get, this video helped me realize I'm not missing out by not getting the gel.. I don't need the speed and smudging. .

    Thank you for posting! Parker refills also fit Visconti, which discontinued their gel in favor of the (less smooth) Smartouch. So I’m looking for a good replacement.

    Thanks this is sort of thing I was looking for. For me personally I prefer when a pen isn't as smooth and smudging is a big thing for me since I am clumsy. I think my writing would be better in ballpoint . Great review thanks

    Thank you for this video! I definitely agree that the Gel refill is my personal preference out of the two. I feel like with pretty much all ballpoints, you have to press down so hard to get ballpoints to write without a fade to it or skips. Being a leftie, even fountain pens give me a hard time.
    So, since repurchasing a new Jotter, I first used the medium tip it came with, and liked it, but I'm accustomed to 0.5 tips, so I bought the fine refill for it, and felt like it was too scratchy. I switched back to the Medium tip, but then I thought, don't they have a Gel refill, so your video helped me on my purchase because it helped give me an idea as to what to expect. All I need now is to see if there's a such thing as a fine tip Refill in gel. You mentioned one, and thank you for that recc.

    The "smoothness" everyone seems to like so much is just lower friction between the point and the paper; but this lack of friction lets the tip dance around on the paper easier than the ball point. This compromises the legibility of my handwriting. I have both of these refills and nothing this guy says is inaccurate. The quinkflow is an excellent excellent ballpoint. Miles better than the schmidt 900. The Parker gel is also great. I just enjoy writing with a steady sticky ball point rather than the watery loose gel point.

    • @acmramon
      @acmramon 6 років тому +4

      Tyler Jackman i agree. The quinkflow is one of the best standard ink refills. The gel parker ink refill is also really good,especially the new 0.5 fine parker gel. I havent tryied the schmidt P900, only tried the schmidt easyflow 9000 wich is good refill but it has some issues.

      Yea but i totally disagree with you, i think the parker ball point refill is the worst refill there is. The writing and the lines look like its made with a super cheap pen

      If someone like to write with pressure, a ballpoint refill is for them. I'm against writing with pressure as it will ruined the back of the paper.

    Just to let you know...Parker Quinkflow Ballpoint refill is a Hybrid ink...has been for a number of years ...so it not actually a "standard" ballpoint ink.
    Standard ballpoint ink is oil based... Gel or rollerball ink is normally water based hence the smoother flow and Hybrid ink, i.e. Parker Quinkflow Ballpoint ink, is a mix between the two.
    Now Parker don't tell you how much of a mix but they do claim it is Document Proof Standard ISO 12757.2 which I suspect means if you use it to sign a document it is difficult to rub it off and is probably detected if you do rub it off.
    My only gripe with the Parker Gel ink is that two of them have leaked on me, one did it in the pen, and the second leaked over a document.
    But as I like the way it write I may try it again...I might have just got a bad batch
    I suppose we should all be using pens which take refills, if we want to be eco friendly, as something like 1.6 Billion pens are thrown away every year.

    This is an amazing video! But I do have to ask this because I can't seem to find an answer anywhere - I have to parker pens, and I have the quinkflow ballpoint refill ink and the .7 gel refill. The gel refill seems to slip in the parker pen and skips (have to go over the writing/ write a couple of times) quite a lot, is there a way to solve this?

  • @acmramon
    @acmramon 6 років тому +10

    they are very different refills. standard ink vs gel cant be compared, they can be only preffered. some ppl prefer the standard cause its a reliable ink that writes on any surface like plastic, but gel is smoother and your writing is nicer. i write with both but if u write on a 75gsm paper that is thinner the gel ink will go through the paper sometimes. thats why u cant compare st.ink with gel. easyflow 9000 m is between those 2 thats why is so popular,but same like gel doesnt write on any surface. at the end if u want a refill that u can use anywhere and on any surface i think the parker quinkflow is no1. ty for the review

    For me the QuinkFlow is similar to the old Ink, often dry starts needing squiggles to get it started, the Gel seldom dry starts. I ordered some Schimdt easyFLOW9000 Black Medium point refills for the Pens that don't get the Gel refill, I'm sure I'll like them better than the Parker QuinkFlow refils.

    This is a pretty good comparison video and worth a watch if you are wondering about the differences. Here's my 2 cents worth. I just did my own side by test (which lead me to this video to see someone else's opinion). I used a Parker brand Medium Blue Quink Flow cartridge and a Medium Blue Quink Gel. The Quink Flow is a darker blue, which I prefer. I also think the Quink Flow writes very smoothly although the Gel dose write a bit smoother and has some characteristics of a fountain pen that I like. The Flow dries almost immediately the Gel is a bit slower. I prefer the feeling of a ballpoint so my choice is the Quink Flow.

    Every time I have tried a Parker Gel refill, it leaked sticky goo inside the pen that gummed up the click button of a Jotter. I will NEVER use them again. The Schmidt Easy Flow 9000 is the best option I have found for Parker ballpoint pens.

    I, too, was looking for a smooth writing instrument and placed the Parker Gel Refill into my Porsche Design P3110 Tecflex pen. After a few months if non-use, It leaked, gumming up the barrel, ruining the pen. Professionals were unable to repair it as the instrument will no longer extend or retract the refill. A COSTLY MISTAKE which has put me off the Parker Brand. Caveat Emptor.

    I looked on your website and could not find any articles about how to get a dried out gel refill working again. You said you wrote an article on how to do that and that it was on your website. Did you remove it??
    Also, I like Parker’s Quink gel refills, but they CONSTANTLY exude some kind of slimy “goo” (not ink) all over the refill and inside the pen. It does it on every single Quink gel refill I’ve ever used and I’ve gone through dozens. Any idea how to prevent that from happening? It’s a huge mess and I’m constantly having to ultrasonically clean my pens after using those refills because it gunks everything up inside the pen. I never use or leave these pens in extreme temperatures, so it’s not that.
    Wish I could read your article about dried gel refills. :(

    I’ve found the gel refill is too scratchy. It actually gets stuck on round letters unless your writing with a very light touch, so it’s not preferable for “carbon” copy documents. I prefer the ball points but they can be hit or miss. Some BP’s write smooth while others require more pressure, but Parker Jotters have always been my favorite pens for over 50 years.

    To simply put it, use ballpoint pen for formal documents and signatures, because it cann't be easily wiped-out, smeared or invalidated by criminals. Use any cheap gel pens for normal \ fast note-taking, which you dont mind someone tampering with it. Both are good to keep you not bored by switching frequently.
