Absolutely brilliant advice for first time buyers like myself, the level of honesty from this guy even with the worst cases just makes one feel at ease
Just want to say a huge thanks for these videos they are providing me with great info as I am looking to purchase my first Aston, needless to say I will be visiting your workshop in the future. Thanks 🙏🏻
Love your videos. I have just purchased my first V8, a poor man's Aston, the 2007 XKR but it's a step towards my grail DB9 or dare I say it DBS. Great info you provide for future buyers.
Very useful tips to assist me in the purchase of my first Aston. I’ve now got more idea on the history questions to ask. I’ve looked at a few and as you say some owners/dealers are vague and elaborate on previous history. If I sell a car I create a pack of all historical service receipts, parts, tyres, etc. That’s what I’m looking for, and if oil, grease and sweat are on paperwork not an issue. Great video again and pragmatic advice for me in my search!
My V12VS is still under manufacturer’s warranty, to date it’s had at least £20k of claims in my 6 months of ownership, mostly cosmetic, paint, interior/exterior trim, brake callipers, what Mike didn’t mention in this video, although he has in others is to get a full independent end of warranty check carried out a month or so before it ends to ensure any gremlins are completely resolved. Once you get in to additional warranty claims outside the 3 years manufacture, you will be pretty limited to what you can claim for.. I do have a question around waterless coolant, is this worth the change at the service interval, especially as the V12 runs pretty hot... I have it booked in with Mike next week, will post what he finds beyond what has been done already...
If a AM dealership can miss out on a multipoint inspection that the car is a Volante and not a coupe and also miss out that two shock absorbers were misting but were shown as advisors on the MOT, says it all with respect to how much the AM dealership really cares. Independent inspection at BR also found front timing cover leaking so car went back to AM dealer and had 4 new dampers and leak sorted, should never have been sold by the AM dealer with these faults.
Can I add Aston engineering in Derby to your list of dealers. They have traditionally done mainly refurbs to older dbs like 4's 5's and 6's their shop currently has cars of all ages and types including a complete refurb of a db4 zagato. They now include db9s and have just done a front off side wheel bearing for my 2011 Virage very promptly reasonably and virtually the same day I took it in. Gary the workshop manager gave me a full tour including a state of the art engine dyno bay to run and test refurbed engines. The workshop had just about every conceivable classic you could think of I was agog like a kid in a sweet shop
Very useful video for both owners and future purchasers... could you give your thought on what Ian Tyrell says in his last video about a 60 k Ferrari engine? He says that this kind of engine is at it’s best when it gets 50 k miles. Do you agree with that regarding our V8 and V12? Thank you for your videos.
I'm trying to get the service history on the 2011 V8S I just bought. It's always been serviced at the dealer, but there's only 4 stamps. Seems to have been serviced about every 2 years, but that doesn't tell me WHAT was done at each. Is it due for it's 5yr/50,000 mile? (it's got 26000 miles on it) So it's never had a coolant flush and needs it? I'm in the US, so no GDPR to lean on, and I've got a message from the previous owner telling me to get the info from the dealer, so let's see if I actually get the full service sheets.
£20k -£25k of warranty claims and Quality Dept should be fired, they should have been SHOT !!! I agree mine had quite a few warranty claims and I was happy with that and after a few Dealership stamps but quite a lot of Independent. Here is one happy chappy and a nice History File
@@MrEvolutionEng The Aston user manual includes the first owner details, in my owner manual it also included the second owner details as the warranty was transferred, so have names and addresses for both.
Great video from a specialist-technician standpoint. Unfortunately, your argument on GDPR is wrong: handing over the invoices to the Dealer (Controller) doesn't allow the Dealer to automatically hand them over again to the final buyer who collects the used car in the end (no consent can't be implied this way). Truth be told, the Dealer could just delete all the personal data linking the car to the previous owner, as you rightly stated. Cheers from Italy, we love cars over here!
I am a bit confused with this. Is the issue that the bills might contain the owners personal information such as address. So if the documents only contained vehicle history and no owner personal details that would be OK. Because otherwise we are talking about invading the privacy of a piece of machinery

Very informative and inciteful video Mike. These are great videos full of worthy advice. Thanks
Excellent presentation as usual.
Thanks again!
Thanks for the good advice on AM V8 vantage. Recent owner, followed your advice a got the perfect care for my needs.
Good info there as usual!

Refreshing honestly
I came across a Vantage advertised by a specialist dealer at top money as "full history" _ the last 2 or 3 stamps were from a backstreet garage...
Really useful content as usual.

How to I check the warranty claim history for a V8 Vantage?

Wait, how does one look up warranty claims? Is that just a typical thing in the UK? Never heard of it in the US.

Great advice Mike. The previous owner will appear on the log book so GDPR really is a poor excuse for a get out.
Not any more, the previous keeper details are now excluded from V5s.

What is GDPR?
It’s just the current UK data protection legislation.
General Data Protection Regulation

Matt Fraser yes, fair point. Just me being insular.
