- Roads to Power is the latest expansion coming to Crusader Kings 3, and a new trailer + teaser have been released which reveals a lot of new information about gameplay mechanics - specifically landless gameplay, adventurers, and who exactly we can play.

Don't you always hate it when devs come out and say we didn't communicate well enough about the bare bones features in our expansion, rather than just say yeah it was a total ripoff piece of crap.

@@realdaggerman105 And none of it will matter, because it's going to suck. All these DLCs are just copies of the DLCs in CK2, and we all know which ones are good in CK2. These ones are trash.

They aren’t all just rehashed CK2 DLC’s for one. Landless gameplay has literally never been done before. Also, Ck2 didn’t have this form of government. Byzantine imperial was different. We have no idea how good or bad this DLC might be yet, so brighten up a little! At least until we get some more info.
This dlc worries me honestly. The newest screenshots show two types of landless characters. Lets call them camp holder and estate holder. It seems like it is not possible to join a court as a knight or courtier which is something I wanted the most. How do I know if you ask? Cause no knights and courtiers live in a godamnn camp!
Hedge knights would absolutely live in a camp and courtiers would be estate holders typically. They've already let us know that part of the gameplay will be climbing the beauracray as an unlanded character. That would presumably be playing as a courtier unless they've developed an entirely different system. Regardless if you a courtier as the game defines it, you still have to be a player at court to climb the imperial bureaucracy
Yeah. Landless for now seems just a normal gameplay but instead of count title you have a camp title that moves

After the disaster of Legends of the Dead, I might wait a while before separating the money from the moths in my wallet.
That inbreeding around 0:33 isn't even close to the worst i have seen. In one playthrough my character made it to like 94 years old when his final child was born. This son of him, was from him and his "Daughter-Wife Great-Granddaughter and lover". Unfortunately the game couldn't even properly tell what the exact relation to my character and the son i had with her, and it just went back to "son, grandson and brother-in-law"

The fact that they're STILL worried about performance with adding China when a big argument for why they didn't add it to CK2 was, "CK2 is on the old Clausewitz engine so performance isn't good enough compared to Stellaris and other titles" and yet they're still using the BS performance excuse for CK3 is suspicious at best. I would find it more believable that something is going on behind the scenes rather than there being performance when it is a more modern game and they almost added it to CK2... Though with the addition of adventurers performance will take a hit which if their argument is real makes China being added even less likely .😥
Honestly China needs a separate game. It would be such a massive clusterfuck and we haven’t even had good content for India yet
There is no reason for China to be in this game.
Even India is a massive stretch. The entire sub-continent would need like 3-4 DLCs worth of content to be fully fleshed out thing worth its addition instead of what it is now.
Indus river is a very natural, and sensible cut-off point.
@@4Xtraordinaire Personally I am operating under the assumption they will add the India and China features we had in CK2 then do the adding of China geographically. But moreso I was expressing my frustration at the devs always falling back on "technological issues" for why we don't have X or Y feature. With the addition of adventurers though I do believe China would, even if it was just an off-map place you could visit, add a lot of interesting storytelling a la Marco Polo.
China WOULD be a performance hit but most importantly the vast majority of players simply don't care about China hell most people don't even play anything outside of europe
@@Knowasi it isn't just an excuse, basically all paradox titles suffer from performance issues especially during a longer play through and titles like Stellaris are also victims of it, these issues are caused by the nature of the games which is simulations, every single character in the game be it a lord of a domain or a courtier or even a guest is constantly taking part in events or participating in schemes there are thousands of characters in the game that are all simulated at the same time constantly, to add a place like china into that would exasperate that issue beyond control and to do the history of China justice would be a massive massive undertaking china's inherent size and complexity during the time frame of 867 and 1453 is comparable to essentially all of Christianized Europe which in itself is still extremely barebones, this time line alone covers 4 different dynasties that all had relatively different cultures and religious philosophies. they certainly could add it in some form, it'd be extremely exciting for sure but like i said to do it justice would take years of development and currently it's more apt for paradox to focus on deepening the game rather than what they have been doing so far which is making the game wider, the way i see Crusader Kings 3 currently is that it's a very wide lake that is only knee deep, there's lots of places to play and lots of things to do but the depth is the same all over, there's no excitement or depth anywhere if you've been to one side of the lake you'll know what the rest of it is like.
Man, I want societies lite in this dlc. Give me quests as a Sunni to assassinate a Sultan and get events or give me an option to offer myself as a knight and build up combat. Give me guilds to join. I cry
Crusader Kings 3 feels like the developers exclusively watched Game of Thrones and released the game with zero knowledge on medieval history.

It's crazy how easy ck3 modding is compared to rimworld. Because mod bugs will straight up kill your rimworld save
They’ve done a great job with supporting modders - I will stand by that
Former games QA here: Different teams work on different things so they can be worked on at the same time. The people modelling or designing new clothes are not the same people who code new features.
How are people affording all these dlcs for all these games? This addon is priced at $43.00. These game devs are still acting like our economy isn't in freefall. The 3d character models are still uglier than the 2d ones in CK2.
If they are implementing this new start date, I am really going to have to hope that they will be making Republics playable soon afterward. So many Mediterranean Republics are getting the shaft right now. I bet it will be like hell making it all work though.
I got myself the Season Pass. Simply because I have high hopes for the new features of Road to Power, the plagues are “nice” but I wouldn't have bought them and I would probably find the small DLC for the journeys quite nice, that's supposed to come sometime at the end of the year.
But my biggest hope really lies in Road to Power, especially because of the Landless Lord renewal, I don't play the vanilla game and just think that you can build on it in a big way.
PDX would like to take their time on smoothing rough surface, apparently. It suggests that the last feedback they received from Legends of the Dead may have made them nervous...
Doubt. Paradox have been getting negative feedback on all their dlc and games since Stellaris with nothing learned

The apple thing is called Food while the byzantine one is called Influence btw. (one of the screenshots shows an activity intent called "increase influence" or something with the same icon in it)

Commenting before watching. Why do people think CK3 is in a bad place? There is still lots of engagement with players or UA-cams. LoD is not as bad of a DLC as apparently the community thinks and the game is lots of fun.
Some of the threads on Paradox Plaza are far more detailed on the entire matter than I could ever be in a single video. If you want the full ‘breakdown’, I’ve made past videos on LotD’s fallout, and the developer’s response thread on Paradox Plaza illustrates a lot of community concerns
i think so too, if they release new dlcs for at least 5-7 years. that would be great. i think it has more potential than most strategy games.
I don't know how you feel about them, but for four years this game has been suffering (personally, to me) because of the lack of societies. Societies were probably my favorite new feature for CK2 (especially in conversion mods), and the lack of them in 3 has just really been an overcast in all my games. Also in my opinion, 'legends' fail to live up to bloodlines.
I feel like Legends already passed the break point. I dont have the DLC and my legitimacy just tanks without the paid content. Sure, there are mods to remove it, but relying on the mod community to wipe your nose is hardly a sustainable approach to game design. How many wonderful mods have alreasy been abandoned? And all these months later, and it's still broken for folks without the DLC or mods. Trying to force a DLC purchase just to keep a game I already paid for playable is insulting. PDX won't get another dime from me.
Why don t they just to regional dlc or faction dlc like the Northren Lords, Iberia or Persoa? This are the best
Because ultimately their regional paid content hasn’t received positive reviews and a lack of things to do during CK3’s downtime has been a major complaint

Not my maps - timelapse creator is credited in the video and the trailers are all from Paradox’s YT channel
Ck2 mod "rise to power" looks like it has everything this dlc is aiming for and more
It has naval combat playable landless/baron tier, playable merc company and pirates even holy orders
Ck3 still after years just feels worse to play than ck2 everything just seems way to gamey
In reality, the big flaw with DLCs, aside from pricing, is that we don't want the same things. We play in different ways, some are more popular, but we play in very different ways, I mean as a community
The community as a whole is still going to look for DLC releases to be polished and at or near the pricing they are listed at value-wise, even if that is hard to discern sometimes. That's something that I think most people will agree are realistic expectations. While no two people are going to have the exact same 'expectations', I think they have similar complaints to where the game is lacking, and the expansions thus far have been fairly generalist in the mechanics they rework
Can't say I'll be buying and don't think I'll buy another paradox game or dlc. Tours and tournaments is supposedly a good dlc and has about 15 events as far as i could tell.

you will play as guests for other rulers, and courtier-like important person for adm. goverment type realm. ( only eastern rome for now)

Guest have minimal interactions if they aren't commissioned to build an artifact.

This is pretty much make or break for me. I've already lost all interest in vicy3, eu4, and stellaris. It's just been CK2+mods and HOI4 for the most part.
I'll be seriously dissapointed if you cant play as a courtier with a court position or anything
I haven't played CK3 in so long. It's just so mid these days... Game started falling off after fates of iberia
all they have to do is just reintroduce the same things from CK2, it isnt rocket science they are just idiots
The game is boring af (havent played for nearly a year). I had some fun wiping out 50k AI stacks w only 100 Champions (and nothing else) by getting knight effectiveness % to >1000% in my viking campaign (playing as viking adventure char).
But ultimately eventually got bored too.
I prefer rpg so I hope CK4 will have better custom character models that dont look like plasticine figurines with sprites that often clip and just look like garbage 🤬

Not sure how it can MAKE ck3. The game is boring and it has issues with warfare, economy and bad dlc so don't see how landless play can fix it
At its core CK3 is funded by paid content. Substantial free updates that fix those issues are unlikely without positively received expansions
I have literally heard nothing positive about anything, it’s all fucking criticization, which pisses me off, It would be better if they gave you guys no DLC at all because none of you deserve it
