- Saturday 8th October saw 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' back in action again on the main line. This time working 'The Cotswold Explorer' from Tyseley to Oxford and back, running out via Kemble and Swindon, and back via Evesham. I managed to resist the temptation to get her on Sapperton Bank, in order to capture her at speed on my local section of the Great Western Main Line, while it's still free of the posts and wires of the GWML electrification programme. The Earl is seen at Bourton in fine form, thundering along towards Didcot and, eventually, Oxford at close to her permitted top speed of 75mph.
The return shot sees her near Combe on the Cotswold Main Line, running along the first stretch of single line between Wolvercote Junction and Charlbury.
Filmed on a Panasonic HS900 with a Pro Sound L92AA microphone.

Wonderful quality as always. Cheers Stony Steamers Milton Keynes
Nothing better than a bit of Great Western!
That four cylinder beat is certainly distinctive.

Oh aye, definitely. Thanks as always, Noel :)
Except she exhausts 4 beats per rev, the same as two cylinders. If you really want 4 cylinder sound then hopefully 850 Lord Nelson will one day return to the main line.
wow beautiful faboulous video keep them coming she was gorgeous with a beautiful sound 😊😊
Will do! Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Absolut fantastic!

She is fantastic, isn't she? Thanks as always, squire :)
A very nice catch there. It was certainly moving on with what seemed like "determination."

GWR at its best.. 4 cylinder power... superb video's
Thanks, David. The double chimney Castles really are awesome machines.
Turned out nicely. Nice bit of speed in the first shot. A rare bit of UA-cam commenting from me, I rarely bother with UA-cam these days haha
He has graced us with his presence! To be fair, I hardly comment on anything these days either :P Cheers though, Sam. The Earl doesn't mess around! ;)
how do you maintain such excellence in your videos?
looks like sight from the great western mainline in 1935
