We eat catfish caught year round and it never taste like mud. Now on a large catfish the belly is full of oil/fat that taste bad. You just gotta cut it off but smaller ones for fine.

The belly is where all the mercury and PCB settles. Never eat that!

good to see someone able to catch catfish this year. I caught 5 early this season and then everything got too dry. no water flowing in the rivers and streams where I fish. I gave up on fishing all together for hopes that when the waters return there will be healthy fish to repopulate the fishing holes. Need fish to make fish :) Fishing will be poor for at least 2 years after the rains come back.

Reminds me of Huck Finn. You'd look cute with a straw hat. I hope you make a video showing how you would cook it. But as always great video. Semper Fi.

no way man... It's sucks getting stung. will make your hand swell up and hurts like heck. Here's a good tip though. If you do get stung rub the slime from the catfish's belly on it and it'll keep it from being so bad. Help's a lot

Here is a good question for you, some catfish meat I have had taste sweet and good, while
others I have have had, taste like mud, swamp water, yak. Now my kid said it has to do
with the temperature of the water, and what season you are fishing. I do not know, but would like
every bodies input who had experienced the same thing. Thanks please send comments.

You have to be one of the smartest person on this earth, will you do a short video showing the exact part we should discard, because it was a larger catfish and that was probably what you were indicating a part of the belly that needs to be removed.

  • @Wildwesttrailblazer

smaller the better, bigger the more eat, not sure it matters. I have had my far share of 1 lb catfish on up to 50 pounders and they all taste great to me. Maybe my dad and uncles just know a few tricks to cleaning them not sure.

You should screw or nail a board to the tree and put a metal magnetic strip to hold your knifes.and then then make a small table you can butcher all your fish.squirls and what ever else you skin ar the tree.that would make it alot easier.thats something is do

@MrMac5150 Has everything to do with fast flowing water vs stagnant pond water and yes cool weather vs mid hot summer temps. Also wild caught vs corn fed.
But to me the only thing better than fried catfish is more of it!

People say some weird stuff. It's called preparing food does it matter if your skinning catfish or an onion. You sympathize with the catfish will to escape and survive but the onion has a different survival strategy. Both are for the food of man.

Can ya'll try and kill the catfish before skinning them? And I think you would get more meat, and have an easier time gutting them if you made a cut down the spine and belly when you pull his skin off.

hey gypsy moon, this is how it has been done for ages. you must not be an outdoors person. its Ok. you can always go to the local fish market. You do know they will probably do the same thing to the fish if you purchase live fish there, right? did you know that they electrocute the fish to kill them. both ways might be considered inhumane so you might try being a vegan, but that means you would be cutting on live plants. so I cant really help you there.
either you are going to accept this way or starve.
      I'm just saying.

Agreed. My biggest problem when crappie fishing with live minnows is constantly catching channel cats. Well, I guess not a problem as I will eat them too. But, they hit so hard they ruin my wire hooks and I have to constantly re-rig.

    • @forgetitohio
      @forgetitohio 10 років тому

John Doe you do know you can filet Cats the same way as a walleye ? Or youll nail them there fishs to a tree?
Cats spend most the time on the bottom waiting for a free meal. I've had them hit a rapala but they still are bottom feeders. I've probably forgot more about fishing then you'll ever know. So don't go there.

I got news for you catfish chase and eat live bait, just ask any bass fisherman who fishes with lures. Every time I go crappie or white bass fishing I catch channel or flathead cat. They don't just suck muck from the bottom. And any fish will eat a dead free meal when presented.
