Up late at work on the west coast USA and I stumble upon a brand new Ralfy video posted just 9 minutes ago! What a thoughtful gift for my tired eyes... Thanks Ralfy!
Bravo, ralfy! It took me 2 full years to lose 70 pounds so well done on losing so much weight in that time frame.
Congratulations Ralfy! You are a true bon vivant, in the ultimate sense of the term. And an inspiration. I love how well-rounded your channel is.
Congratulations on the fitness channel!
. . . thanks, it's very different but with all the experience of presenting my whisky review channel, I can see the opportunity for original content relating to quality of life and general health, . . . whilst drinking moderate amounts of spirits. It'a a balance thing !
@@thewhiskybothy Agree. Moderation is the key.
ralfydotcom uh yeah
Very happy for you, Ralfy! I've written this numerous times before, but it still bears repeating, you are very obviously in a much better place than I/we have seen you in a while. Absolutely thrilled for ya, as I'm sure everyone else is. Also, speaking of vintage things, I met and had a very long conversation with the East Asian brand ambassador for SMWS, and the topic of different kinds of peat in Scotch whiskies came up. I pointed her to your 40th review and showed her the point where you show the ash from the different kinds of peat, and she was thrilled to see the difference shown so literally. It's a bit vintage, but it was very helpful. Cheers, Ralfy!
. . . all part of the Journey in maltiness !
Ralfy you are an inspiration!
I went through the wardrobe last Sunday pulling-out perfectly fine pairs of Levis into which I no longer fit. Rather than taking them to the charity shop, I've decided to hang onto them and wear them in twenty weeks. See you on the other channel!
. . . see you there !
I tend to agree with you, Ralfy. I worked for one of the big companies for a short period and one of the worst things about the whisky industry in Scotland is that it's run by marketing people (many based outwith Scotland, for that matter), it's often all about brand image and quality rather than product quality, and they seem to believe their own hype. Strangely, despite mentioning nationalism in your vid, I found much of the Scots whisky industry to be anything but Scottish nationalists. It seemed often to be very much a tartan and shortbread British colonialist mindset. Anyhow, I drink whisky that's good. I don't care if it's Scottish, Canadian, American or anywhere else. Surely that's how it should be?
. . . it's how it should be, and yes I agree, Scottish cliches are often cources from colonialists.
Congratulations on your gains and the new channel! Much success!
This is inspirational! I've had a bit of a slump lately. This is what I needed to get back on track
You probably increased the quantity and quality of your life with this, losing that much weight is a huge deal, good job man!
Good job on the weight loss and fitness, Ralfy! I am working towards the same goals and making similar steady progress. After 16 weeks I’m down 20 pounds.
I found the r/loseit reddit group to be a useful source of information and motivation. Biggest help to me was meticulously logging food intake and portion control.
. . . Food diaries are very very useful !
Very impressive stuff Ralfy! Congrats 💪
Thank you Ralfy. Wife and I went ketogenic this last July. Cut out all carbs and sugars. This meant no beer but thankfully my scotch, rye and bourbon are all carb free.
I've lost a total of 45lbs and feel great. Not many 47 yr old truck drivers can say that.
Thanks again and I'm looking forward to the new channel.
. . . BIG weight loss, well done you, but don't take it too far now !
@@thewhiskybothy Because of the weight loss I've gotten back into martial arts. I still have another 30lbs to lose but this ketogenic "lifestyle" is designed to change eating habits that have destroyed people encouraged by the sugar industry.
Keep up the good work. Because of you I fell back in love with scotch and discovered unsweetened rum.
Interesting and inspiring always! Thank you sir, much appreciated!
Way to go Ralfy, I personally always hit the gym 4 times a week and commute 15 miles to work by bicycle so I can enjoy malt moments that are earned. It makes them that much more enjoyable when they’re “earned” from hard work and dedication! Cheers!
-San Diego, CA
. . . we're keepin' the gainz gaining !
Congratulations on your weight loss Ralfy. I visited the Cotswold distillery a few years ago and found their tour very informative. I am visiting Glasgow in November and have already booked tours at Glengoyne and Auchentoshen...also intend to pop into the Bon Accord.
. . . good stuff Jag, I hope you have a very good visit, and say hello to the folks in the Bon Accord when your there.
@@thewhiskybothy ...will do Ralfy. Cheers
Well done Ralfy! That's a lot of weight off your hips and knees as well. I'm 5 foot 9 inches tall and 184 pounds and need to get back down to 175 so I'm off to your fitness channel for some help and inspiration.
Always a pleasure, much live from Vermont!
It's 11KG guys.
Thanks, kilogram buddy!
Cheers that's a weight off my mind
That is quite a burden, especially for your heart that has to pump blood all day and all night long.
Great job on the weight loss Ralfy! I've been needing to get on this band wagon for a while now myself.
. . . just do it !
I'm doing a low carb/high fat diet myself since June. I'm down 51lbs so far!
Well done Ralfy! Keep up the good work.
Congratulations!
At the start of this year I challenged myself to minimise the amount of sugar I consumed. Definitely feel the healthiest I've ever been!
Well done old man , that is a wonderful goal and keep up the good work, you will add years to your life and quality to boot!!
Ralfy first let me start by saying you look great, I am your age, and like you have put on a few pounds, after seeing your new channel announcement, will subscribe also. You hit a key point in this video and that is associating with those that are supportive of your efforts. Also keeping track of those efforts as sometimes it s a while before the benefit's start to appear. Well done Ralfy. Your an inspiration to all of us.
. . . happy to help with the gainz !
Bravo! Very inspiring. I have also lost about 5kg this year, packed on about the same amount in muscle, and now fit into my wedding tuxedo that I last wore 20 years ago.
. . . it's a big achievement !
Hi Ralfy, I have watched a few of your videos, Whisky Dic's and Whisk(e)y Vaults. After watching yours in particular, I really want to start my own whisky review channel. Any advice?
. . . go for it, keep it original, know your own voice for presentation !
Thanks Ralfy, got modest little collection going and want to show my opinion to others and also try to inspire other young people to get into whisky :)
Well Done ralfy!! I'm doing weight training right now getting back into shape!
. . . go for it !
Can you do a video on Posture? having trouble keeping good posture, any tips would be appreciated.
. . . start with rolling your shoulders back and keeping your chin up. Yoga is excellent for posture !
Congrats on losing two stone Ralfy!! Got to stay in shape to enjoy whisky!!
Congrats on the weight loss and most importantly sticking to your gym routine. This is slightly off topic but on the same vein about health. I remember you did a video on safe drinking. I know you're not a doctor but what would your opinion be on a safe amount of whiskey to drink? 50ml a day?
. . . I will be doing a vlog on that subject very soon at fitterphilosophy !
1:27, well said Ralfy. Your channel is worthwhile because it is honest. Twitter and many other channels are full of sample-tramps and guys who think everything they try is 88/100, oh so smooth! C'mon.
Ralfy is on sale! £204 marked down to £179!
. . . a bargain !
Ralfy this is great. I've also lost a fair bit of weight recently. Great point about the whiskey. I'm a huge whiskey fan. The calories add up. Fortunately it's carb-free but there are interesting articles about how we don't burn fat whilst there is alcohol in our system. Let's just say I save my whiskey treats for special moments on the weekend.
Way to go!
. . . all part of the Journey !
Congrats ! I went down almost 15 kg since 2013, however, I started at only 80 kg max, still my goal is to be *stable at 65 kg* , relying mostly on Galina Schatalova's food philosophy _(and swimming and walking)_ . You will, I hope, however, not mind if I pass on your fitness channel. ☺
. . . no worries, well done with your successful food plan.
Sorry to bother. Been away awhile. Was looking at the Whisky Exchange. Any help in 4 bottles of age to try out as a tasting?
. .. Clynelish 14yo
Springbank 10yo
Glenfarclas 15yo
Glencadam 14yo
good luck.
You’re setting a great example!
Just sub'ed.Delighted you took that positive turn.
In 2013 I was planning for a 2 week hiking trip and found out in my physical that I was too heavy and my triglycerides were way too high. I switched to a low carb diet and began exercising 6 days a week. That was in February. When the time for the hike came up in June I had lost 25 lbs. By December of that year I had lost 40 lbs. 5 years later and I have kept 35lbs off. I still exercise at least 6 days a week and keep my carb count low. I need to add some weight training to my exercise regime but overall I am doing well. I am in my 50s also.
. . . excellent stuff, putting yougsters to shame !
Lost 86 lbs.on WW. Never missed a dram. Congradulations.
. . . good for you !
Yay I also lost about 18kg from the start of the year. So glad your feeling so good and healthy.
. . . good for you, keep the gainz !
Outstanding Ralfy
Dear Sir you really are so interesting! Is there nothing you don’t do? 😀 And you have impeccable timing with this, as having been away from my normal gym routine for much too long myself, I have recently recommitted to getting back to it. Will be jumping over to see what other interesting insights you have and sharing that journey as well. Looking good! Best of luck with it!
. . . thanks for watching !
Congratulations. Successfully losing excess weight is a great feeling.
im doing a dry November. im 200 lb and im looking to drop at least 10lb and refocus - drink less, drink better, eat less, get back on the weights (which i love)
. . . good luck, and go for it !
I instantly noticed that your face is looking much more angular. well done, Ralfy!👍
that is amazing. Beer is a killer for me too, almost as killer as the cravings for carbs are when I am drinking.
This should be the #1 Whisk(e)y channel in the world.
But something inside me is happy it isn't.
. . . whatever number, . . . just keeping it fun !
Vintage clothes of your own are quite a trove! I lost 10 kg in about 1 year and 3 months and I now wear a tshirt that I bought in Paris 5 years ago during a holiday. I could not wear it as it was a medium size, more on the small size part of the medium and it did not fit me well. Now it fits perfectly.
. . . feels great does'nt it !
Good show, beer is the killer for me aswell especially when i have an unlimited supply of beer since its my hobby to make it.
Congratulations, Mate. I lost 30 lbs using Fitness Pal. It, and similar programs help track calorie intake and exercise calories output. I used to keep keep an exercise log and need to do that again. Strength training is vastly underrated as a means to burn fat. A dram of whisky can easily be 100 calories.Snacks are my downfall. I avoid wine and beer because of the carbs.
. . . you now how the achieve ! stick in there.
What's that whisky with number 3 on the label? Any good?
. . . Joey Dunlop Foundation blended malt, and very good but hard to find now except on the Isle Of Man.
Yeee cheers well done! Now the next step: burn them calories by doing something exiting instead of a gym: put on your boots and get out in them gorgeous Scottis hills !
If you're a drinker, you NEED to eat healthy and exercise, so so important. Well done.
. . . your right !
Good job man!👍🌻
I just picked up the M&S English Malt..
I believe it is St George the distillers?
It is very young.. Very Banana like on the nozzle..
Orangey, light.. Spirity.
But a modest drop of water miraculously takes away that brash astringent spirit burn and makes it a fruity smooth moderately intricate nice whisky..
Don't think I'd return to it in a hurry but...
I think it would make for a nice "blender".. Maybe to brighten up a really dirty Smokey Peaty whisky for a bit of variety..
Anyway.. Interesting times..
I am happy to report..
My first sighting of ENGLISH MIST!
. . . wonderful !
Which whisky goes best with whey protein?
. . . every one does !
I’m so bloody proud to be Manx like him 😂
I think he's Glaswegian
Keep going. Great job
Nice ralfy to see this review i'll recommend you if you cant keep doing that hard trining try to do some martial arts like okinawa karate 2 times a week like myself that will maintain your weight if you eat better is really good , cheers!!.
a low carb diet is the way to go. Ketogenic allows the pounds to clear off quickly, and provides lots of energy.
I went Keto. I lost 68.5 kgs in 52 weeks. 150kgs down to 81.5kgs. Still drank whisky every day. That is 151lbs to those of you in the US.
. . . what a difference you must notice !
@@thewhiskybothy yes mate, very much so.
What about that UA-cam plaque ? Seeing it first time in theese episodes. Did You talk about it ? You should ! Congrats anyways, well deserved.
Also congrats on weight loss. Last year i lost 50 pounds by going to gym. Only downside to whole this is i am drinking whiskey max once a week to not mess with my gains :D
. . . will discuss the youtube award in another vlog !
Are we gonna get a Ralfy Montage...
Like Rocky?
Should have done it by lifting Kegs and Bags of Barley!
Doing turns on the malting floor is quite the workout, too ;-)
What are you saying Ralfy! Your now at stinger weight? Watch out UFC, we got a new champion 😎
. . . a lot better than I was !
Great work, Ralfy! Care to come and run the Chicago marathon with me next year? I'm certain we can put together an excellent whiskey event in your honor while you're here. :)
. . . tempting, but I will do the local marathon first !
Whisky contains zero carbs/sugar, it's the beer that's the killer.
Keep cutting out the carbs and keep up the good work :-)
calories are calories, doesn't matter much where they're from. Also, calories from alcohol are surely worse for the body than some carb calories
. . . it's a question of balance, and not too much alcohol.
This subject is of real interest to me as I'm on zero carb atm and was thinking that the occasional cheeky wee dram might be a possibility.
Found some useful info here: www.bodybuilding.com/fun/md19.htm
I think it explains things quite well.
Bless you good sir
I need a bit of this!
Your training routine is impressive. Cool. But for me such an intense training regime is not so good because there is a danger that you will not be able to maintain it for long enough. This too drastic change in lifestyle can lead and usually leads to the fact that you quit it. I always believed that we need to change our lifestyle so that it allows us to maintain it for a long time. So in my opinion two to three times a week is quite enough.
. . . no time for quitting ! enjoying it too much. Keeps me from getting old too soon.
Hahaha.
You are now almost a fitness freak.
Your extras are not about the whiskies anymore. So sad but then again they are a lot of whisky lovers who are into health matters.
Anyway, cheers to all health conscious people out there. As for me, I'm into good food and good whiskies anywhere anytime. Of course, nice and slow.
Cheers!
From sunny Malaysia.
I have many other interests and every one of them is made more enjoyable by drinking whisky.
I live in Scotland, I drink my national drink because I enjoy it and to help provide locals jobs to communities, Springbank being a excellent example, while also helping to reducing my Co2 own emissions. Some would say that's because I'm a nationalist or it is because I just care ? Irish whisky can be good but not all the time. Some English whisky is better than Welsh whisky from Penderyn, my goodness what a unpleasant whisky, along the lines of Jura in terms of bad whisky. I tend to find Welsh & English whisky young of course, but not like whisky from the Lowland, it's completely different but not my personal style of whisky. Wolfburn again not my style of whisky, young and a bit off ? Just me.
Benromach 5 year old is a good young whisky.
. . . you certainly appreciate the good stuff !
Someone's been watching Dr. Berg on UA-cam..
Ralfy speakn of helth Im @ a svelt 155lb (but got sum lymphona goN on)
2b hones w/ya, one ofen wans 2 go out swingin. & I thnk SM, etc may b a salvashn re this journey.wen the man upatars calz yur #, & ther is no time to protest.
. . . it's the circle of life, we don't know the shape of the circle !
I love beer particularly American craft beer, it is my downfall.
. . . less is more !
ralfy, hey
m-m 4 futur ref.?
malty malternative
motives.
My guess was 8 bottles
. . . I doubt I will ever achieve that !
scottish whisky makers should pay attention what happened to the french wine industry.
Name and origin is not everything.
I still love Scotch, but there are some good bourbons and irish whikies out there!
. . . agreed !
😏👏👏👏👏👌
And now to celebrate the weight loss, he's gonna drink all six bottles... :-)>>>
. . . over a year !
Staying in the spirit, shouldn't that be three years and a day ?
