I liked that detail too, for the first time it didn't frustrate me to see so much shyness in a romantic series. Hanako and Yashiro are really clingy to each other, although at first they were platonic hugs you can see the depth of their actions as the series progresses.
But it is a romance show, is like a shojo with shonen just as inuyasha that's why I love that anime/manga and this, the best of two world :D in the manga you will see more romance things so you can read it now or wait for the second season >.
I actually find it *really* sweet how Yashiro is completely comfortable with Hanako touching/hugging/squishing her all the time. In many romance animes/hetero ships, the girl either violently attacks the guy for so much as tapping her shoulder, or gets extremely blushy, nosebleeds, exaggerated shock and all. But with Yashiro and Hanako it's different.... They're just so.... Comfortable with eachother... Yashiro leans into Hanako's touch.... And Hanako constantly hugs her, yet she never seems bothered by it at all. And the touching between them is never actually sexual or romantic... it's just straight up comfy wholesomeness and warmth. It's such a stark contrast when you realize what Tsukasa likely did to Hanako in the past (touching him in the _nonconsensual_ way)....
