What memories. Coming from RI my parents would always take my sister and I there in the late 60's. My father always insisted we eat first...chowder, clam cakes and watermelon. Then off to the rides (and no we never got sick). It was a once every couple of years trip and never a bad time. We also went to Crescent Park which wasn't as popular as I recall.
@@user-mt9tn1ni4g No...we came from Providence but moved to Connecticut in 1959. Rocky Point was just a fun place that my parents took us to as well as Point Judith and Galilee for swimming. He didn't work in fiberglass though. He had his own appliance repair business.
I loved Rocky Point. My parents meet there and worked there when they were in there late teens. My mom was 18 when they got married and my dad was 5 years older but they stayed together to the day my mom died !! I miss her so much she reminds me of the mom in this vlog. She took me to Rocky Point with my dad and sisters. My mom hardly ever went on these rides since she got into a car accident that screwed up her back but out of the blue she asked me if i would go on the music express with her and we did twice !! She loved it even with me being on first and when that ride went super fast i flew into hwr and squished her like a pancake and i felt bad i kept trying to pull myself off her but with the spinning i just couldn't i was not strong enough. I am so happy to see this tonight it brought back the great memory of my mom ❤
Thanks for this video I was 8 when this video was taken I had many fond memories of Rocky Point. My grandparents had a cottage at Rocky point beach (owned by the park) I spent many endless summers there when he park closed so did the summer beach community and our cottages. Those were the best times ever thanks again for video
Wow, amazing. This video gave me chills. I grew up in CT, been living in L.A. since '99. The last "spinning" ride I ever went on was the same black & yellow spider thing starting at 2:18. It was probably around the same time period, too. I was a teenager, think I had eaten some clam cakes right before getting on, and immediately threw up as soon as I got off. That was literally the end of my spin-around-in-a-circle-ride career ... but I still tell that story once a year.
Haha, that spinning ride (was it the octopus?) was what put me off spinning rides as well! I went on it once, and something was wrong...they kept stopping it for some reason, and the carts would just spin spin spin up in the air....we'd hang there rocking for the longest time...and then they would start it up and run it very fast, then repeat. I don't know if they were trying to repair an issue or what, but it was unpleasant. I didn't get sick, but I also didn't want any more spinning for years!
This is a great video, thanks for posting! It makes me want to step back in time and see all the great 80's stuff happening back at Rocky Point! Also, 'Mom' was a good sport apparently, I would've been throwing up Rocky Point chowder all over those rides, haha.
Very cool seeing this. May of 89. I met my wife there in June of 89. I worked there in the summer of 1989 and 1990. This brings back memories for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Wow takes me back to my childhood last time I was at Rocky Point was Summer of 76 during the Bicentennial. Cool video thanks for sharing of course a lot of the rides changed recognized the Tempest the Sky Diver The Spider saw the Castle of Terror in the back ground they changed the cars for dodgems unless it was the bumper cars over by the flume. Oh yes the Scrambler and the Tilt a Whirl.
Thank You for posting this! I was 7 when this video was made and I have many fond memories of this place! Just today I checked out the new State Park at Rocky Point, It's beautiful. You'd almost never know an Amusement Park was there.
I remember going on family vacations with my family every year and I remember Perfectly well that we went Rocky Point Beach in Rhode Island one summer and it was the best summer fun that my family and I had ever had and brought so many memories back to us to each time we look at the old video tapes and family photos too. And that was the Summer season of 1992. And I was just 10 years old at the time. And then we back to it in the Summer season of 1994 when I turned 12 years old. And then back 1995 we heard it was loosing business and shutting down for good we were all very sad by the news of that. But we have found memories of being there photos and videos of it to last us a life time. And we all agreed as a family it was one the best Amusement that we have had ever been to in our lives and it will sadly and greatly missed. And may God Bless it. So thank you so much for my input and I appreciate it and I will see you all soon enough d Sincerely Susan Iseman from Upstate New York near Albany New York.
My brother and I were just there yesterday (june 1) the skyline supports, the arch, and concrete edge of the pool are still there.! Signs are posted where some of the attractions were. A very nice park to walk around, but so sad that it no longer exists.
I was 24 in 1989… was just thinking that the child in the video has to be about 40 now! OMG! I grew up in MA and went to RP a few times in the 70’s and 80’s… so nostalgic, so much fun! 🥹Most vivid memories were of the sky ride, Flume and music express, and there was this one ride, the car was round and one person sat on each side, and it rocked and rolled and they strapped you in so tight at the abdomen that I thought my guts would squeeze out! 😂 And of course I remember the Shore dinner hall ❤
Thanks for sharing. It brought back some great memories. Your daughter was just a little thing, so I didn't expect to see any roller coaster clips. This place was great family fun. I miss their clam cakes.
Rhonda Rhodes you can go eat theire clamcakes now if you are still in Rhodeisland. its right in the parking lot of the ann & hope on post rd in warwick RI. someone opened it up and brought back the recipe
Pretty great footage. I grew up in RI in the 70s. No better place to spend a day than Rocky Point. (It's a shame that her children won't have the same experience.)
i used to go there when i was little to eat clam chowder..but when i got older, it became a regular hangout...I might be in one of these videos. I was there a ton. Michael Jackson was one going to buy it....but he didnt. Miss this place
Oh I miss the days when you had to make sure that our own safety belts were actually on. We did that ourselves. That's how real we were. Now you got help to do that.
I live in Staunton, Virginia, but there used to be a Park like this, down around Roanoke, which is about 70-75 miles from where I live. Near there, was a place called Lakeside Park. I only went once, as a child of about 11 years old...but, Man! I enjoyed it immensely!!! They ended up tearing that Park down, several years after I visited. What a time I had! It was great!!!
i also lived in providence, and know oneyville, Pocasset ave, federal hill, Kennedy plaza, smith hill, Plainfield street, uniconicit hill pool and their lunches..yuk
I can still remember the haunted house doors being smashed by the carts and the smell of the inside. I’m 43 now.
Never went but my dad went and he told me there was a smell of grease that came from the track, and that one of the doors crashed REALLY LOUD!!!
There just is not enough innocent fun for families and growing children and teens. This was a great place to go and make memories.
Thank you. It was a wonderful place to take your family. Lot's of great memories made there.
Its cool to see the past so vividly. 89 seems like yesterday. Good old days, ah to be 17 again.
What a nice keepsake for you and your family, sir! A window into a simpler, better time. Thank you for the upload!
The simpler better time......how eloquently true.
I miss rocky point park alot
Me too!
this place will always have great memories for me from the days as a kid in the 70's to almost the day it closed in 1996

What a cute, happy, adventurous little girl! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
