I was waiting for him to take a 1 second clip of the audience.
Omg it’s really you!
1 more week and I'll finish a whole year of 1SE!
I think that's a big point of this project, makes you go out and try to make your life interesting, so you have that 1 awesome sec to record :)
For the last seven years of my life, whenever I've gotten free time I've been sitting at this desk in front of a computer watching other people play video games, listening to other people's music, reading their stories and viewing their artwork. I have created nothing and I've never been anywhere far from my house. I have no best friends and no family. I understand that this is supposed to be jarring, yet I don't feel compelled to change after watching this.
That's most TED talks for ya
how's life now
Just hit my 9th anniversary of filming 1 second every day as of last month. My memories have become far clearer and well-documented than ever before. Thank you so much for changing my life in such a simple way.
Wow, how depressing, watching this guys 1 second every day makes me jealous of how interesting his life looks...
4 and a half years into my 1 second everyday project, so happy to be able to watch my life back this way!
Man....after seeing his video....my life feels utterly boring and predictable. But, it's inspiring to seek out a more interesting life. Actually, this video REALLY inspires me to shake up the rut I find myself in. Definitely saving this talk.
Though...I must say, having the video playing the whole time realllly took away from his talk. I was barely concentrating on a thing he said.
I was just thinking "I wish there was an app for this and I didn't actually have to do work" then I find-out he DID make an app in the app store for 99 cents. I just filmed my first second.
how did it go?
@Yusuf Isaac how did it go?
How are you doing now?
@@flor473how did you go?
I am definitely adding this to my schedule. damn, how could one not do this. awesome.
Recorded everything for almost 3 years, forgot to take backup and lost everything. Came back to this video, we start again today.
How wonderfully articulated!
esta charla cambió mi vida
I would probably be depressed if I did something like this. He seems to lead a very interesting and fulfilled life. I go to work then come home. I may or may not do something on the weekends.
Backed the project on Kickstarter and love the app and idea! It's incredible when you finally compile all the clips into a whole.
I think it's awesome that you've made this point, thank you so much. Things like this video make me feel pressure to change and get out more, but honestly I'm content spending this time in this little world that I've created for myself on the internet. Extroverts sometimes act like it's so sad that introverts do this, but goddamnit, it's the few hours a day where I can interact with people and not have to worry about anxiety. For once I actually get to choose what I want to be surrounded by.
I'm late to the party. Just started 1SE January 1, 2019. It's a lot harder than it sounds, but love the video so far. Thanks!
This is genius, we MUST make this a trend
I started with a similar intention of doing 1 second each day but found out rather quickly that some days/events need more time to not even make the film more interesting but also to do justice to the importance of it. Like the birth of my son. To compensate I left out some really boring days or days I'd only work 12 hour shifts and not being allowed to film anything. I also added a soundtrack but sometimes mixed inn the original sound from the video. It was fun to make and do!
I started doing this project at the beginning of 2013 and it's been incredible so far. One of the best decisions i've ever made
cool
Es un gran proyecto y es muy interesante justo eso estaba pensando, hay muchos momentos de mi vida que no recuerdo y me hubiera gustado capturar, siento que perdí muchas cosas y ahora no sé que perdí. Me encanta la idea.
The more you record your days, the more you'll want to do other things. Many of his days were just him reading a book, eating some food, on the computer, with his family, grocery shopping, someone driving, going out with friends. I'm sure you do all those things you just don't think about it. And like he said it'll inspire you to do more with your time :)
It would be a much better way to remember a pass loved one like this, than with just a photo.
ill be like a year with the app 1 Second Every Day and the memories that creats in my mind are awesome i love this app and the idea
A truly beautiful concept, starting my own. Thank you ^-^
I started doing this. It's pretty cool!
I'm going to do this every day while I go traveling,, love the idea so thank you.
Backed Cesar on kickstarter and have had the app since it came out. Money well spent.
Derek, ever upload anything?
It is just Amazing!!! Iam starting right now. From now til the end of my life)))
Inspired me to do my own, thanks so much!
He was motivated to do even more interesting things because he didn't want to have a second that didn't tell a story. Maybe you'd find motivation too.
This is a great concept!! It would be cool if some of our veterans could do this even if they are over seas.
So true what Oakenguitar said. If you're happy spending you're days in front of a computer, then do so. Remain positive and always try to grow and improve. If you're not happy, and want a more "interesting" life, go do it. If you notice, a lot of his one second clips were just with family or something casual like reading a book. He's just being himself and enjoying life. Do the same, no matter what that is.
loving your idea!
Wow, this appeals a lot to me. Definitely impactful.
Probably forgetting is the best thing in life.
I LOVED this!!!
this is so freaking awesome!
Beginning my journey of moments!
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
My way also. It's also one of the important ways to live: remember the good times and get through the bad times.
Memories, pics, videos are nice but, to live mostly on memories and constantly looking back is not a good way to go. This is true and can be tested logically.
Very cool. This is worth trying!
I love this project idea
It's a cool idea, but you'd really only remember any specific day while watching the one second clip from it. For a fleeting moment it would be highly nostalgic.
Awe inspiring video...what a simple fantastic concept.
I have been doing this with photos. I love the concept with videos.
6:13
If I were to use a lower quality camera, I'd edit the footage so that it's more similar to the quality of my eyes. Also, I personally like the idea of possibly adding filters to match the mood, because sometimes the colours in our memories are slightly more or less vibrant than they actually were.
Consider that the video was made between 2011 and 2012. Cameras back then didn't have the quality they have today, so...
This is a great idea!
Great concept, even downloaded/paid for the app but this Ted Talk gave me motion sickness from the constant switching. I'd probably appreciate the reel more if it were my own. Looking forward to trying to snap a 1 second video everyday this year.
wow this is amazing
Awesome..... Inspiring lost for words
I feel the same way. Also dump people annoy me, that keeps me indoors more.
wow such an amazing idea! very inspirational.
The go out make new friends, lead a life in wich you'd be proud to look back on. And if your able to remember were you started from that would make the journey even greater.
Inspiring. I believe he has an app for this now.
This is a really beautiful idea and what with camera phones these days, why not? I get up to some fun things that I'd love to treasure forever. Although there may be an hour worth of footage of just sewing!
That topic is exactly what I want! I'm always confused by one question, what do the memories look like in my past 30 years? I found that I can only get a limited time of memories, if I edit my memories right now into a continuous movie, it will even be no more than 10 minutes, no matter if I'm 3 years old or 30 years old. My brain can only deal with limited information at once. Knowing this fact I have been depressed for a long time, life becomes meaningless if you can only remember 10 minutes of a life slide show. "I THINK therefore I am." After watching this video I discovered that what my life lacks is these unmeaning, random memories, not the colorful, impressive clips.
I'm wrong, it makes me feel very tired to watch this "one-second" movie, in my eyes and brain. Maybe life has to be limited.
I am in a similar situation to you. What I got out of this talk was that, if I started recording one second of every day of my life, I'd actually feel more motivated to do productive things with my time as not to experience deep shame from the product that I created.
brilliant idea
I've seen this sort of thing before, but this is amazing. Considering trying it :D
I went on a humanitarian mission trip to Kenya in 2008, and I find that I've forgotten many of the things that turned my life in a new direction from that point -- that I wouldn't have remembered just from daydreaming, without the handwritten journal I wrote in every day while there..
Legend!
As long as you're happy.
my video after a year would be me chilling in bed for 90% of the time
great idea
look at it this way, being in front of a computer is a big step up from being in front of a tv. just make sure you watch at least one video that makes you smarter or makes you laugh.
I am so doing this- Amazing idea
Any other ideas for cool personal projects?
A selfie everyday!
Great video.
Awesome!
I'm gonna be honest...I'm 16 and I feel so inspired to do this and I really do want to...I think it's going to be something that I'll be so proud with when I'm older. So you know what? I'm actually going to do it.
5年経った🥺🤝🥺ྀིありがとう
We all have a friend or family member that can come, and most likely the company someone glued to a computer screen would have is somewhat of an intellectual something to add to your life. Being smart isn't usually random its generic ya know!? He still makes a valid point.
6:06 Playing Magic: The Gathering are we? I've had fun with that, back in the days...
I'm doing this, but with 2 seconds, allows me to process the memories easier.
that was amazing. i'm gonna do that too.
Well, my "project" is the good old fashioned diary, in which I put words, not stickers and drawings, so people and myself actually know or remember what I was thinking or feeling. Not a very original "project", I know, but it's something other people in the future can actually relate too, instead of a series of images that wouldn't mean anything to them, except to myself. ... Unless you are doing it for yourself only...
i want to do this! this is awesome!
Apart from the family bit that´s me. But the thing is 95% of the time I´m happy with it. Still, I can be 8 years away of such a project and many things can change but for now I feel as ´useless` as you.
At least i can realy relate to you, and with youre words doing so... you actualy did somthing
Very interesting, great idea.
Your last second will also be of him giving this talk.
He probably helps depict art in a business sense. If they need an add or a good web design, then it's an art.
very good one
i did this with photos and not gonna lie it got annoying at times, but it was well worth the trouble. i recommend it to everyone
I think one thing that might happen if you decide to do that: you might start to create those moments worth remembering every day. You will create your own day to create a better movie.
It sounds interesting.
"memories are an interpretation, they are not a record."
~Memento, 2000
I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I disagree.
Great idea, I'm doing it myself.
I wish that it wasn't playing as he was speaking though, it's such an interesting video that I'm sure the audience was distracted.
Someone really likes playing Magic and Settlers. I approve.
I would be drunk on every 7th. xD
I record nothing - no pics, no videos. The way I see it, the things that are worth remembering I will remember.
this guy's life looks infinitely more interesting and fun than mine.
wouldnt taking a picture a day do the same thing? he inspired me to give it a try myself!
I find this project amazing, never forget your life
I gotta try this one, but I'm gonna put on some makeup before I take a selfie to start it off :-)
If u do what he is doing, u will eventually find that how u repeating same mistakes of ur life.. And how repetitive life is.. Round n round.. Good eye opener..
I started back in 2014 March 23, but ran into exporting issues on my one year anniversary (with my phone not working well enough to run the app), so I paused and started over in 2018 April 12. It's been 692 consecutive seconds since then, and I hope to keep this going for as long as possible.
Now that I'm switching to the new app (version 2.7.3 to 3.3), I just need to figure out how to transfer the 692 seconds from the old app.
i love that picture of the best brew in the world
Thank god i can remember almost every day. You don't need technology its all how you train your mind.
lol
whenever I hear dream big ... Fightclub comes to mind.
Beautiful. :)
