Dear all: If you think the company is going to fire you, instead of quitting, look for another job. This way you can get a headstart on your job search while still getting pay and slacking off at work.
Imagine they were thinking about it (why you had the feeling you might be fired) but decided not to. And the slacking off was the reason why u got fired
If you work a 9 to 5 the only time you have with your kids is you rushing them through their routine and when the kid doesn't cooporate and it means you get late to work you're getting repremanded because your kid just didn't want to put on pants that day. NL has more time for his kid which means he is spending more quality time with his kid. He isn't shy about it being difficult to be a dad, but I think he sees more of the rewarding aspects of being a dad as well.
Watching Atrioc talk about his time working honestly makes me depressed because he seemed to have been very motivated and great at his job but I am about to enter the workforce and do not have no where near the same amount of motivation he did. Honestly makes me feel pathetic.
when the time comes, you will want more and you will do more to get it. Some people call it midlife crysis and suddenly change job from call center to teacher or banker or some shit. If not, you arent cut for great things i guess...
Even if they are, it's quite simple, you just have to do it. Once you accept that, you'll always try to plan ahead and not be stuck doing something soul destroying. That'll make you one up on a whole heap of people. Most are content with moaning, so doing something about it isn't as difficult as it would seem...?!?!
About to enter as in just becoming old enough? Alright something you should know is that you do NOT have to stay at the same job long term to make more money (raises, bonuses, etc), people who make the most money typically switch jobs every 2-3 years. Also know your worth, if you’re offered a job and they ask you how much you wanna get paid, always go higher, like if it’s listed at $16/hr online ask for $19 and then try to bargain down above $16

the amount of tech companies that keep employees that are doing nothing is shrinking rapidly. 5 years ago if you think that your probably right but now that exact problem isn’t a worry anymore
Under saturated market makes it like this. Next 10 years will not be like this. There was a 90s and 00s and even 10s tech boom, specifically in software where a lot of these big tech companies were trying to scale as fast as possible and not worry about the financial costs. Now with the recession and even worse the advent of AI, there will no longer be the need for 100 people for a single product, a group of 20 dedicated engineers will do far better. Either AI lives up to the hype and SWEs are fucked (not completely but market will become saturated because demand will decrease) or the AI doesn't and it will cause a massive bubble to pop and a recession forcing big tech to lay off.
As a guy working a cushy job in tech, i can tell you this is soo fucking relatable. I get good reviews on work, and working from home 4/5 days in a week.
advantages of having technically shitty management. This is double edge because if you do something really nice and efficient they won't be able to appreciate it but if you do something scuffed they won't really notice.
I wouldnt be surpised if the pay rise stuff after the acqustion was all based on hitting earn out targets around reducing FPC costs. One of the worst parts of acquistions that you aluded to is it is massive incentive to individuals (sellers) not a collective group. And given the point in time - early 2010s as you said, the deal structure probably heavily seller favoured. It really REALLY sucks if you are the management level below people with equity.

Workplace moral has a bigger impact as a whole on the entire company if your moral is shit it's probably why you have high turn over it's not because of your lower level employees but often management and mistreatment along with inadequate pay really be nice if companies weren't so heavily focused on maximizing profits in exchange for labour and moral but sadly we don't live in that world. I know when everyone around me is complaining about the work, management and pay I begin to hate my job and when your employees aren't happy they aren't going to be as productive because once your mental health and overall well being are down your just burning on empty till you break which happens a lot especially when expectations are for you to go in and do multiple jobs that are outside of your job description and if you refuse your seen as uncooperative and run the risk of being fired because you don't fit "Company standards" either rework your job descriptions or start paying me the job of the persons work I'm covering which pays more because i shouldn't have to cover for someone who's making more than me and then get yelled at if something goes wrong because i wasn't trained for that job nor is it in my job description

If your not happy at one of the most successful company’s in the world with great working conditions and pay then how tf would anyone be happy/fulfilled at any job. (Genuine question I’m 18 and ignorant)
Hyper successful companies don’t automatically have the best working conditions. Due to their status in society, they often see it as a privilege to work for them and sometimes even expect you to work more than you are contractually obligated to do.
You'll never be happy at work. Once you accept this you can move forward. Some people are lucky enough to find a thing that pays well that they love doing but this isn't the norm. No matter how much money someone is paying you to do something, it can become soul crushing after a time because suffering is universal and the hedonic treadmill effects all of us. Instead what you should do is focus on proficiency. Find joy in simply being good at something that pays well and the act of getting better at it. Grind it out until you can afford to do something you actually enjoy. Never assume work and fun should be the same thing because that's a luxury.
The KPI makes you feel like you have to be more productive. Realistically in-office workers would have around 4 hours of non-productive time in their 8 hour shift. Many, many corporations are inefficient. Just maintain your KPI and unless they're mass laying off people you'll be fine.
